  1. The best I can remember is one I saw at Knob Creek back in 1995 on a Hummer (the real kind, not that H2 bullshit).  It said, "When the rain forrests are gone, you can wipe your ass on a spotted owl".
  2. I wonder how many people have ever watched the entire film, "Downfall".
  3. I have a vortex magnifier and it is decent, but a better option is the long eye relief magnifier that Primary Arms sells.  I have two of these and am VERY happy with them.  I run one with a Aimpoint Comp M4 on my Scar 17, and there is no problem with eye-bump.  Clarity is good to at a fraction of the cost of the eotech.  https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_3X_Long_Eye_Relief_Red_Dot_Magnifier_p/pa3xlersm01.htm .  It also has adjustment to allow you to center the reticle.   Note, the VORTEX I have is the older model with the rubber armor.  Looks like they have a new one out.  Not sure how well it works.
  4. Never seen so much Walmart ammo at a show before. So many tables of folks who obviously have been camping the sporting goods dept for a living and just buying it up to resale. I hope they choke on it. I didn't see a ton of people at their tables.
  5. I carry a Walther PPS 9mm in a Fobus ankle holster, and it works out well.  I sit all day so it is the best compromise for me.  The trick is wearing a pair of high socks that are not quitters.  They must stay up and tight are the rig drops.  I like the nike fitted black dri-fit socks for this.  They are thin and stay up very well without causing my legs to sweat, and they help the holster to stay in place without having to torgue it too tightly.
  6. So if the prices people were willing to pay WEREN'T ridiculously high...how many of you would be willing to part with your AR right now?  Would any of you sell your mid range AR's right now for $1000?  I bet most of you aren't willing to sell at double that.  Because of the uncertainty surrounding the legality of our toys, most will only sell them if the price is very high.    And that is the reason the prices are so high.  As long as their is a doubt that you will be able to replace your rifle/ammo, you aren't going to let it go cheap.  Since you aren't going to let it go cheap, people who want them have to pay more to get them.  It is so simple, and for some reason many of us are baffled by that.    Prices will return to normal when supply begins to outweigh demand, just like it was a year ago.  But supply isn't likely to catch up until the doubt regarding legislation subsides.    And let this be a lesson...even if we get past this with no significant legislation, all it will take to put the market right back into this situation is the next mass shooting, which will happen sooner or later, and will come without warning.  Keeping that in mind, it will take a long time for prices to return to what we were used to.   You've got 4 more years of fear and doubt.  I have sold a couple of my rifles during this mess, and at the time felt like I did pretty well on them...but I am already starting to regret it.
  7. I will be there.  Will be by to see David and stock up on something...I don't know what yet, but I'm sure he will have something I need!
  8.   The way "the industry" or "supply side" controls this is by raising prices to what they believe the market will bring.  Placing limits is just a form of central planning.  If wal-mart would raise its prices (I know...GASP) then people wouldn't hoard, and there would be ammo on the shelves.    If the local Exxon lowered its price on gasoline to $1.00 a gallon, how long do you think it would be until it ran out?
  9.   I think they banned Bullet Buttons, IIRC.
  10. Yeah, I had it on Dec 26th.  Amazon.com is great.   I am about halfway through it, and just as the other two, it is a very good book.  I like how the first two are written as diaries.  Shattered Hourglass is told from "the omnipotent" voice with pieces of diary, but that was necessary to tell the larger story.    The heroics at the Hawaii facility where particularly well done.
  11. Knoxville Tactical has some surplus.  They are the same outfit that is always at the gun shows with the Troy VTAC accessories, Aimpoints, Surefire flashlights, etc.    They have a lot of "new" surplus though...meaning modern stuff.  They are located at the Emory Rd Exit in Powell on I-75 (exit 112) next to Hardees.
  12.   A big difference then is that the vote was in the same year as the election.  This time the vote would be almost 2 years before the next election.  After what just happened with the Presidential Election, I'm not so sure the Democrats will be so fearful of losing their seats.
  13. Here we go.  They do everything through Executive Orders...Gun Control is no different.
  14. Drive to the location and stand there until you see the work done.
  15. Very busy show, with really nothing to see.  Picked up supplies from David which were much appreciated.  Stood outside the side door and froze to death talking to Dolo and Soukraut before they left.  As always, got some great tips from Dolo.
  16. So how do you do it?  I see the nail polish remover there, I think.  Please explain!
  17.   They will ban those too if they go after AR's. Maybe not the .22's, but I bet they get them too.
  18.   I think if they made them NFA guns, the opposite of what happened to machine guns would happen.  With machine guns, there aren't that many out there on the market because there aren't that many transferable guns period (only those made before 1986).  Demand is low, but supply is much lower.  There are MILLIONS of AR's, AK's, and other Semi-Autos out there that would potentially go on the NFA now.  So now you are suppressing demand (due to the hassle of the NFA process) to very high supply.  I think the prices would fall through the floor.  If they put all existing "Assault Weapons" on the NFA list, it would probably make sense to sell them off before the ruling takes effect.    I really don't have any idea what is actually going to happen.  I think prices will be higher than what they were a few weeks ago for a long time to come.  Even if no new legislation comes, I think people will be waiting for yet another shooting spree to start it all over again, so may keep prices high.  They may fall a bit from where they are today, but there will be a new normal.
  19. It is only gouging if it is a necessity of life, and even then it is debatable.  I do not believe gauging exists on wants.  Obama and the lefties believe you only have a "right" to a little profit.  Fuck them.  Who is to say how much profit you have a right to?   If you list the gun for $2k and someone buys it, it is worth it.    Think of it this way...very few people would sell their AR's for what they were worth 2 weeks ago...that means that there would be very low supply and very few people who could get one iat all f they wanted it assuming they were "capped" at only spending what was reasonable two weeks ago.  By them offering more money for an AR, they are brining more guns into the marketplace that otherwise wouldn't be there.  So good for them if they are willing to pay a premium, and good for you if you are willing to sell at one.  People who bitch about gouging often don't know what they are talking about.  You don't have a crystal ball anymore than a buyer.  This may be the last AR you are ever able to buy, OR sell.  Or nothing may happen and the buyer who you "gouged" my wish he'd waited...but he paid a higher price for piece of mind at the time.  You can't buy life or health insurance AFTER you get cancer either (well, with Health you can, which is why it is going sky high).   It's like selling chainsaws and water for high prices in disaster areas after a hurricane.  If they weren't allowed to mark them way up, then it wouldn't be worth their time and investment for people to bring chainsaws and water to sell in the affected area, so they wouldn't come and there would be a massive shortage of chainsaws and water.  Let them charge what they can.  It is better to pay $10 for a bottle of water than die of thirst.

    MOA question.

Some mounts are tilted so that you get extra down adjustment on the scope to allow for the large amount of bullet drop at long ranges.  I suspect that is what it refers too...I believe it means it gives you an additional 20MOA of bullet drop adjustment range over what your scope is normally rated for.  So if your scope had 100 MOA of elevation adjustment, it means if the scope lines up perfectly with a normal scope mount, you have 50 moa up and 50 moa down.  With the 20 MOA mount you will have 30 up and 70 down...but you rarely need a significant amount of up so that is a fine trade for a long range gun.
  21. If the shield had an accessory rail, I would probably have bought one.  But I passed over it and bought the PPS from the same store instead that does have a rail.  I am really happy with the PPS.  I have NOT had the chance to shoot it a bunch yet, though.  I have only put a couple of boxes of critical duty through it (no malfs).
  22. Based on what I have seen, the perfect apocolyspe cartride is .270, because it is the only calibre I have seen in spades at the 5 different walmarts I've been to in the last few days.
  23. I will be there to pick up supplies from David.  Its going to look like Airplane when they ran out of coffee.  I may bring an AR just to see if I get tackled.
