  1. Members Only.  Can't see it.
  2. Why would you shut down 308, 223, and 9mm? Seems like that is what would sell the best. Fishy.
  3. I thought for sure that video was from Sanford, FLA.
  4. Two points. 1) In nearly every passenger plane crash in history, moments before the plane exploded or hit the ground, it was flying along just fine. 2) Every "greatest nation in the history of the world" that came before us has lost the title at some point, and sometimes in spectacular fashion.
  5. I have always been treated wonderfully at Austin's, and Mike is a very knopwledgable and friendly person.  I have heard there have been some health concerns in his family, but don't have any details.  Not sure if he has been active in the shop or not.  Very sorry to hear of your experience.  It sounds way out of character for them, as others have said.
  6. TGT out of Claxton had them for $40 at the last show. He had several. I picked a couple in black.
  7. So there isn't much out on these yet as they are pretty new to the market. But I figured I would post up with my observations after picking one up. I wanted a fairly compact scope for my SCAR 17, which typically limits one to 1-4 power in a quality piece. Of course there have been a number of interesting 1-6 power scopes hitting the market, and I had looked at the Vortex Razor HD 2 and the Leupold Mark 6. Both are really nice. I nearly went with the Vortex, but I found the Bushnell and though 8.5 would be interesting. They are pricey. Most are listed for $2149 online...which is a lot to pay for anything, especially a Bushnell. Sportsman’s Guide has them listed for $2149 as well, but they offer their 10% discount if you are a club member. Well, they run double your discount from time to time, so I figured I could get one for $1725 or so shipped. The Vortex scopes typically run $1400, so I thought by spending the extra $325 I would get a FFP reticle, another 2x magnification, and a better reticle (I like the BTR-2 Mildot Bushell uses over the Miculek Ret of the Vortex...which is set for a 5.56). I also like that the Bushnell uses Mil clicks for adjustment instead of MOA. Anyway, it came in this week. First thing to note...CRAP! This thing is pretty big. It is a 34mm tube with HUGE target knobs. They are the push pull type and click extremely well. The glass looks good. I don't know that it looks better than the Vortex glass, but it is very clear. On 1x there is a little fish-eye effect, of course, but the relief is very good, (even on max power), and with both eyes open I had no trouble picking up my targets around the yard. There are several brightness settings with "off" spaced between each, and even 2 NV settings (useless to me). The reticle will go bright, but I have seen brighter. I have not had it in bright sunlight yet. I believe it will be plenty strong enough for daylight, but hope to prove it this weekend (assuming the sun comes out and I can get away from work before dark). I mounted it in a American Defense Recon mount. The package is a little heavier that it needs to be IMO. I think they could have gone with a 30mm tube and saved a lot of weight. I don't know how much adjustment you would lose with a 30mm tube, and how much FOV, but I don't think it would be enough to be a big hindrance. It LOOKS cool for what that is worth. I haven't shot it yet, but I assume it will hold zero. The Elite Tactical line gets great reviews generally, so hopefully this one won't disappoint. I will post more when I get it to the range. Here are some pics of it mounted up.
  8. I thought it was great.  The fast zombies were much more scary than the slow monotonous nonsense on TWD.  I think alot of people want shamblers so they can fantasize about suppressed 22LR's and bushido.  That shit won't work with these fast movers.   I read the book last year, but don't think it would translate to screen well as it was written.  Here is a link an article that covers that topic: http://www.uproxx.com/gammasquad/2012/11/five-reasons-you-dont-actually-want-a-faithful-world-war-z-movie/   But to sum one very important point of the article up, if it were written like the book, there would be no main character...meaning there would be no big name actor, meaning there would not be a big budget, and there is no way to do a movie of this scale without a big budget.    I may see it in the theater again.
  9. www.dragonleatherworks.com in Oak Ridge.  He does fantastic work, has some stuff on several TV Shows actually.
  10.   Yeah, but Falling Skies is a scenario that could actually happen.     The season premier was pretty good I thought.  No spoilers.  The series has improved I think, as it has gone along, unlike TWD.    As for Revolution, it has improved as it has gone along as well.     Unrelated, but The King is about to return...Breaking Bad is just around the corner.
  11. There didn't seem to be a shortage of parts or ammo at this show.  There were still some high prices, but they are returning to normal.  I saw more .50 cent/rd 223 ammo (which is still high), but it was $1.00/rd just a little while back.  There were still some folks still asking that much, but there were fewer of them.  There were still quite a few wal-mart resellers there, but they looked lonely.    I did see a number of $100 stipped polymer lowers for AR's, but again, didn't see any of them selling.
  12.   Well a little of Column A and a little of Column B!
  13. The CTD booth at the NRA Convention was a lonely place.  No one was stopping by there.  I stood at the nearby EAA booth for a while to watch.
  14. There was a SCAR 17 posted up cheap on Armslist in Nashville a few weeks back.  I replied thinking scam, sure enough, guy said he was in OK, but had been passing through Nashville the previous day so he posted it there.    It was a total scam.
  15. Fun fact...IIRC Atz Kilcher's daughter is the singer, Jewell.
  16. Nemo makes a 30-06 AR.  Saw them at the NRA show, nice people.   They also make a 270 Winchester, which I think would be the cat's ass.
  17.   That one weekend in March is when Knoxville had their home show.  Any idea what a 80 degree/Sunny March weekend does to trade expo attendance?  Yeah...it has been shit since then.  I usually consider Memorial Day as the mid-point of the summer season because we have been in the pool/lake since the beginning of April.    Not this year.  Not been in the water yet.
  18. I live in Powell behind the hospital....about 100 yards outside the city limits. I shoot a quite a bit with a suppressor as a courtesy to my neighbors. No problems, just be safe. Before they cleared the field behind the hospital (5 years ago) a fellow shot his muzzle loader all the the time and I never heard anyone complain. He was only 50yards from my subdivision which is pretty big.
  19.   Lol, that makes the answer easier...without the gas supply the action doesn't move at all.  I suspect the gun would be a little more accurate (perhaps imperceptibly so),
  20. On a dirent inpingement gun, like a standard ar, the gas flows from the barrel, through the gas block and tube, and into the bolt carrier where it pushes the carrier rearward, which ejects the spent cartridge.  Excess gas is vented through the side of the bolt carrier through the small holes that can be seen through the ejection port.
  21. .22 is crazy!  You are more likely to come accross real zombies than the large supply of 22 you all are talking about.  You can't find any now!
  22. I am fearful greenego is correct.  With the media full on board with BO, the 65% percent of the population that gets their news from The Daily Show and Carson Daily will never get the story.    We always talk about fighting this mess by getting behind good candidates, and I agree that is a must.  But it is useless without pressuring the media to report the truth.  I rememeber reading a thread that outlined a "government gone rogue" scenario and how patriots might respond a while back (on TGO, I think).  It involved targetting the corrupt media members rather than politicians.    I do not and cannot accept that kind of violence, but it did make me think about the premise a great deal.  Somehow, the media has to be made accountable.  I know we can vote with our wallets and cable boxes, and not support news sponsers or publications that sling this filth.  But half the county buys the crap they sell.  How do you deal with that?  I vomit a little in my mouth when I walk into the lobby of the company I work for and the TV channel is set to CNN, or worse, MSNBC!  I mean MSNBC couldn't get lower ratings if it tried, but the enemies of America like Soros and the DNC keep filling their coffers.
  23. I don't own a VEPR, but I shot a friend's recently.  He had the 16" 7.62X54r version.   These were my thoughts...   "####!  This thing is loud and kicks like a mule.  It would really benefit from a muzzle brake, but that would make it even louder."  I believe the barrel is threaded, but has a cap welded over the threads that has to be removed somehow.   "####!  Every shot is well off to the right.  He needs to adjust his sights, oh wait...they aren't adjustable".  It does have the scope rail on the receiver though, so he needs to put some sort of ret dot or something on it since it appears the iron's are fixed.   "####!  This thing is all over the place on the target!"  I couldn't get it to group, or even pattern at 100 yards.  However since it was open sights that were way off, AND we were using russian ammo, that may not be because of the gun itself.  I would like to try it again with a magnified scope and quality ammo to see what kind of groups it can lay down.  I don't expect it to drive tacks, but hope it is a 2 MOA gun.   "DAMN!  This thing has really nice furnature, and I really like the idea of a semi-auto 7.62 x 54r!"    I wouldn't mind picking one up some time and putting a good brake and RDS or 4x scope on it.  I would want it in the 54r caliber just because that can still be shot for pretty cheap, and it is a potent cartridge.
