I have had my 17 for two years now, and love it as much now as when I got it. Light, accurate, easy to strip down...it's the total package.

I am really impressed with my 2.5-10x44. Great glass! I have shot it on my SCAR 308 for several hundred rounds and now it has ridden on my 300 Win Mag for about 100. It's held zero perfectly, and the clicks are repeatable.

I used to love this show...and I really like drama...but last night was more tedium than drama.

What is your 308 168g SMK Long Range Accurate Reload?Help
atlas3025 replied to lshel's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If you are using upper end 308 loads but using 7.62 NATO brass, you will probably get signs of high pressure for the very reason you mentioned. NATO brass has less capacity than commercial 308 brass. Typically I drop a grain off my load when using NATO brass. Does your load sheet differentiate between 7.62x51 (NATO) and 308 Win? -
What is your 308 168g SMK Long Range Accurate Reload?Help
atlas3025 replied to lshel's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have always had tremendous results out of Varget. I believe it is 46 gr...but check on the front of the Varget bottle to confirm. The 168 SMK load is right there on the front! -
Not to get off topic, but the Russian Dash cam Videos oughta be great during the olympics.

Sold my house in Fayetteville. Close end of this month.

Congrats on your escape form Fayettenam. I assume you mean Arkansas. -
In that price range I have been impressed with the Nikon Monarch. The glass is great! I believe the M-308 is the same thing, I really like the Vortex Viper PST, but I think it is an entirely different piece than the diamondback. It is in the $600 range, and 30mm.

I've got 125. Hoping that someday Midway will get the Grendel Barrel I want in so I can use it.

Yes...But I suppose trying to supress one of those is like pissing on a supernova. -

Ditto on YHM Cobra M2 in 45. It is much quieter wet, but I suppose that is true for most cans. I have also heard the Ti-Rant is superb, but I have never played with one. I have used mine on 45ACP, 9MM, 10MM, and 300 Blackout (subs only). Take note that I was told by YHM that they didn't recommend it for full power 10mm Auto loads. And by full power I mean the early 90's (and current Doubletap and Buffalo Bore) Atomic Annie loads that would hole battleships. The typical 10mm loads (.40 Short & Weak) you find now by Federal, Winchester, Remington, etc are fine. Of course this is moot now since I lost all my cans, rifles, et al in the tragic canoeing accident in the waters near the Laurentian Abyssal. -
These things seem to catch actors, musicians...artists, so often. I remember reading something once which postulated the reason is that the thing that makes the great artists great is that they "feel" so deeply. And that makes sense to me. Music, acting, dancing, and fine arts are all about the way they make the patron feel....and the best convey their emotions to us through their medium. Anyway, being tapped into emotion the way they are...it makes them susceptible to substance abuse because of their sensitivity to pain and depression. I don't know. With money and success comes great temptation. That could be the biggest part of it.

I have a 9mm. Shoots great. I have never heard a specific complaint with them in terms of reliability or accuracy...but everyone says they get mixed reviews. The only gripes I am familiar with is the long, though smooth, trigger...and they are ugly.

Lol the comments are great..."arrested the deer"...

This was posted up at slick guns a few weeks ago. Deals like that pop up fairly often. I think walmart carries that model for near that price. http://www.slickguns.com/product/dpms-lr-308-sportical-ar-10-sa-308-rem-16-191-6-pos-stk-blk-87295-free-shipping If you want to go cheaper and stay semi auto, maybe a VEPR in 308... http://www.slickguns.com/product/russian-vepr-rifle-308-square-back-20-12-barrel-integrated-sights-vsb308-20-02-68999-shipped I don't have any experience with the VEPR in 308...but the 7.62x54r version is a hoot. I am sure others will chime in.

For a starter semi 308..I would think the lower end DPMS models would be tough to beat. Though it'll be interesting to see what the PSA looks like.

Which Quick Detach Scope Mount for AR 308?
atlas3025 replied to lshel's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have used all three. The PEPR works well. Held zero on my scar...but it felt heavy and looks clunky. I like the AD unit better than Larue because the Autolock system feels more sturdy than larue's. Larue's requires some lubrication and a wrench, while AD's doesn't. Larue's also has a plastic extension on the ratchet that worried me. They are great...but a little more expensive than AD, with those two factors that I didn't want. They both hold zero though. You can't go wrong either way. -
Which Quick Detach Scope Mount for AR 308?
atlas3025 replied to lshel's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I use an American Defense Recon mount on my SCAR. You can probably find them a bit cheaper at midway or on ebay. http://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/browse/category/opticmounts/scopemounts/ They are rock solid and work great. You can also use a Burris P.E.P.R. They are cheaper and heavier, but work well too. -
This all sound familiar. Sold an m1a and bought a 308 Rem 700 thinking it would be my long range gun...then decided 308 is much more of a mid range calibre...so bought Scar 17 for 308 and a Rem Sendero in 300win mag for playing at long range. Be careful thinking about this stuff too much lol...it gets expensive!

Video Depicting Number of Nukes Ever Exploded
atlas3025 replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
Well, nukes are serious business...but given the number that has been detonated...it seems the unintended destructive potential has been overstated. -
Bought a pistol from them on 12/24, it arrived at FFL on 1/10. Ordered a lower on 12/26, it arrived at same FFL on 1/14.

That is awesome. Off topic, but I am always amused by the people that bitch about PSA customer service turnaround times (especially on Slickguns). Yeah, they are slow...but there is an old saying, "1) Cheap, 2) Good, and 3) Fast. You can choose any two, but you can't have all three." If they hired a bunch of people for customer service and fulfillment, they will have to raise prices to pay them. Cheap and Good = PSA (not too many others I can think of THIS good and THIS cheap) Good and Fast = Daniel Defense, BCM Cheap and Fast = Model 1, Bushmaster, DPMS from Walmart.

Man...the worst walmart I've been too was in Torrance, California....you'd think it's a southern thing...but it isn't.
