  1. One thing to keep in mind regarding the wind setting it off, you will most likely become jaded to them coming on if it is a frequent occurrence. It would be just my luck that the one time a bad guy was prowling my property it would be a windy night...
  2. Not only a troll but I'd be willing to bet whoever wrote it is of moderate to right political standing. It has a particular stink of something written from within to excite the masses.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Still nah, I'd pass. An FAL, whole different ball game, depending on the builder. I've read allot of negative reviews on Century. From what I've read, if they make a good one, its ok. If they make a bad one, its bad. Plus the design doesn't grab me over an AR. Who knows, maybe more comfortable, just doesn't look it. Then again neither does the FAL and I like those so...
  5. They're pretty cool, I do take exception to one of their employees "asking" (it was more like a LEO "request") that I not "vote like a Californian" upon hearing where I grew up. Not that I don't agree with sentiment, the last thing I want is to see TN end up like CA, but damn, really? Is nothing sacred anymore? We're having a nice conversation and then you tell me how to vote? Not too cool IMO, and definetly not the way to run a business. Haven't seen him there since though, so maybe they parted ways. The older guy with the shaved head is pretty cool though. I'll be back again.
  6. Nope. :) Wanna bet the poster isn't who he claims to be?
  7. Good advice on illuminating the area from Bersaguy. Additionally I like the idea of rose bushes outside of windows. Ladyhay, I had a thought this morning, have you tried going down to the local PD station and asking for training recommendations? Odds are high that whoever is in charge of officer training also works with civilians. You may or may not get a bit of resistance from the desk officer ("buy a dog", buy a baseball bat", "call us") but if you are polite yet firm that you have decided your course of action, you will most likely walk away with some good info. The majority of police officers I've dealt with (and with one former, one retired, and one active in the family that's been more than a few) are very pro gun and want people to be able to defend themselves. A minority are not and will try to bully you into thinking that being able to safely defend yourself is beyond you. "A bad guy might take it away and use on you" "your opening yourself up to lawsuits" etc. Odds are your interaction will be a smooth, positive one. Don't be discouraged if its not though.
  8. If there's anything I've learned about ARs and those that build or modify them, it's that you can pretty much come out with anything and have it sell. Like I said, I'd be interested in checking one out. The real deal maker or breaker IMO is going to be the quality of the trigger pull in semi mode. That and how they plan to handle a warranty. Bummer that this won't work with a 22 conversion though. Unless it does, but I'm not seeing how the conversion bolt would move far/fast/hard enough to really make it work.
  9. Damn it! Now I'm confused! I'm not playing in this thread anymore. Sh*t got real.
  10. Also wanted to throw out there that if you prefer the revolvers operation but have a hard time with accuracy a longer barreled model might be a better choice.
  11. Sounds like you've got your head right on the matter and capable of making the right choices for your family. The fact that your actively seeking information bodes very well. To throw my two cents in, I would stop feeling overly anxious about your upcoming trip as though it were some kind of big deadline. You'll set yourself up for failure, what your talking about is an involved, lengthy process. At least it should be. I might have missed this earlier, but do you have any trigger time on either pistols? If not I would practice safe operation (firing) them both and see if you have a preference to one over the other once you take loading out of the equation for the Glock. If you like the revolver best, then fine. Continue to get as much practice as time and money allow before your trip. Buy a speed loader to have a ready reload handy, and keep your loaded revolver at home in the bedroom. Once you get home for the day keep it on you if you wish, or keep it in the room, whatever feels right. Whenever you find the chance for some good training, get some. And remember, the odds are astronomically huge that you will NEVER NEED your weapon, which is not to say you should not be prepared, and vigilant, more to hopefully ease some of the nerves your feeling about the whole thing. Also number 1 most important, you can't be afraid of your gun. Respectful, absolutely. But afraid? No. Try carrying your gun around the house with you unloaded as much as possible. Familiarize yourself self with it and you'll be much more comfortable. You need to reprogram your brain to think if it not so much as "a gun" and more so as a tool. A very deadly, very specific tool, but no different at the end if the day than a hammer. Also your kids are about the perfect age to start reinforcing gun safety.
  12. I think your missing the point sir. Magnets.
  13. I think your missing the point sir. Magnets.
  14. @Mike: Hmmm, I guess not. What we really need is some kind of FA simulating handguard. Something that will slide all over the place and be connected to the trigger somehow(magnets?) to effectively, yet gently force enough reset to go faster than Ricky Bobby on meth. Hmm, magnets... Think about it, it could replace current military tec, it, it, it could be a game changer!
  15. You think that would work?
  16. It looks like a well made trigger from the picture but as Dolomite said, anything letting the trigger move that violently is probably going to get old fast, quicker than than the cost of feeding it, for me maybe anyway. Plus I have to wonder, mostly since I don't know, how long everything will hold up before wear and tear take effect and it needs replacement parts (how much $?) or even replacement? Warranty? I'm actually wondering because if the regular semi auto pull is better than good with no over travel, I could live with 4.5lb Now we'd have to be talking pretty damn great with the semi mode, I've only ever pulled one Gessiele trigger, and I'm not sure which one but I'd be expecting similar performance, though not as light a trigger granted. Then I could justify about half as having a great trigger. The other half I could justify for showing off in front of the ladies... Or showing off for other gun nerds, whatever. May still be interesting if it handles well?
  17. Even at $40 considering the money or at least part if it went to the family is still say well spent. Now had that terrible accident not occurred and these were just Noveske branded Pmags for the sake of being cool, I'd say $25 - $30 would be about right. Once again, in the time frame we were seeing people buying standard $12 pmags for $50+ I'm going again with "good buy" and that's my final answer Regis. :D
  18. You might get more takers offering the right one... Just sayin. But really, sorry your in a cash pinch, sucks to have to sell something you love but its just stuff. After 6 months you can reevaluate the situation and either buy another or just keep the cash handy for something else. Good luck with your sale.
  19. Tanker, I like the looks of that real well. He should be a happy camper with a rifle like that. I highly doubt one as nice could be build for that kind of money. I like my PSA upper real well, its my go to rifle. They seem to make a very solid product at a great price, plus as TDR mentioned, it wasn't until about this time last year that you had to spend big bucks to get a good piece of gear. I'm putting my money into the TGO build next, but after that I've got a blem upper from PSA that will need outfitting. Most likely end up as a dedicated 22lr in the theme of light. Once I get that one knocked out I will either cool it completely on ARs, OR go back to buying PSA uppers as it seems cheaper to buy one of theirs than to build one.
  20. If they cost only a little extra plus the proceeds go to help the family, I'd say solid buy. Heck IIRC, when they released those was somewhere in the middle if the panic, in which case paying anything less than $30.00 was a great deal anyway.
  21. I know the show well, it just seemed like it was a caricature of the character rather than him actually playing it. Given, the Hal character IS a bit cartoonish, still though it was more like watching Walt acting like a weenie than watching Hal again. I don't know, a lot of people joked about just this very thing, it should have stayed a funny thought instead of a disappointing reality. IMO.
  22. Agreed, funny but seemed forced. I did like the description of Jesse though, "yeah science b words!", pretty accurate.
  23. Now that's a gumbo I can get behind. I'm not much for sea food, most gumbos I encounter have at least shrimp in them which automatically disqualifies them for me. I'll send this along to my sister and request it for the next family dinner.
