  1. No, nothing alike. Flying to NYC with any pistols would be a no-no, save a layover where you did not take possession of your baggage containing your firearms. Flying into LAX with as many pistols as your carrier will allow (some have limits) won't hardly raise any more eyebrows than bringing any.
  2. I'm just messin around, I guess my mind equates 50 "ins" with September getting here faster. Impatient? Maybe. ;) They are steep commitments, and I may come to partially regret it when it comes time to pay, but when it comes time to open the box I know I'll be glad. It's funny, like a few others I'm sure, the first hasn't even got here and I'm hooked.
  3. Pretty much everything said here except if unpack the pistols for HD first thing if you have to stay there any length of time. Don't get caught driving around with one though, they tend to frown on that sort of thing, though. What part of Ca are you flying into?
  4. Some people have reportedly had problems with the polymer pins. I think they work ok, but I wouldn't try to talk someone out of replacing them either, your call. I'm keeping my out for some cheap lightweight stuff myself, I'm wanting to do a lightweight carbine as well one of these days. Of course, my 300blk barrel is due to come back in stock soon so finishing that one will delay things a bit. But worth it, I've been looking forward to it for awhile. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for anything fitting the bill barrel-wise. Talk to Dolomite too, you might need to clue him into the thread, or start one in rifle section like "lightweight ar". He's built one that I understand came in around 5lb with a 20" barrel! You might try searching the forum, I never seem to have much luck finding threads I'm specifically looking for, but I bet it turns up something.
  5. Wtf people, this thread is over a week old, how do we not have 50 people signed up already?! You know you want in!
  6. Edleys BBQ. That is all.
  7. I can understand that. I'm not exactly religious but I didn't like it either, even if I agree with some of it, I don't discount the good religious do just because of the bad.
  8. I've found that I agree with them much more often than not. From gun control to organic food, the war on drugs all the way to recycling. Second hand smoke was a good episode too... Don't even bother with their religious stuff if you hold your faith near and dear, it will only upset you.
  9. I knew this thread had a familiar tone.
  10. Dang sir, she does know you doesn't she!
  11. It's make an interesting counter point to all those pocket rockets you were acquiring awhile back. "And here's a neat little 380. this one is only as large as some 32acp models! Here's another cool 380. I really like this one because... What that? Nah, that's just my fiddy cal..."
  12. My advice, call one of the safe selling vendors here on TGO, tell them your desires and budget and let the pros work for you.
  13. Nah they're there alright, I've been moving grown up hats into the paint department for awhile now. It's hard getting there at 5:00AM so I can be the first person to get at the stock as it comes off the truck, but one must do I suppose. Oh, I've also been hiding the big boy pants too. I've been taking them to pets and removing the security tags(but not stealing them, I have MY big boy pants, don't need more).
  14. Haha yeah, a dangerous website for sure! Luckily I don't mess around with repairs much any more so haven't needed anything from them in a while. They have a lot of cool stuff, but I always try to build what they sell since they are awful proud of their stuff. Still, nothing else works quite as well as the right tool.
  15. I've got three of them all with polymer parts kits. I can think of reasons to upgrade, but then again the stock trigger is actually much better than I had anticipated with very little if any pre travel. Yes, there are failures with polymer lowers, I personally believe they are good to go by and large, but you could get a dud. I really like mine and all, but if I was going to go polymer again, I'd be going with the TNarms co. models. A little more expensive, but the upgrades look to make it well worth the difference in cost, plus you can get them in colors, I don't think NFA offers that. All that said, I think the weight difference is actually pretty negligible between polymer and aluminum, isn't it? For a lightweight upper I think the key thing to look at is BCG weight. You could run without a forward assist and ejection port cover, but only saving a few ounces at best. Most important is going to be hand guard and barrel. There are some cheapish carbon fiber handguards that will help keep weight down, Dolomite knows which ones. For the barrel I'd say a 16" pencil barrel with a decent comp at the end will treat you right.
  16. That sounds like more of a value build than a budget one. Sounds like you built one heck of a rifle for your money. Hope it treats you well.
  17. Variable speed. x 1,000 Flex shaft. x 1,000 Practicing first so you don't end up with butchered work. x 1,000 Safety glasses. x 10,000 Have fun with the one you have if its already out of the box. Mess around with it and you'll soon feel as though you could build a whole house with it given enough time and cut off wheels. Hands down absoletute coolest accesory IMO is here http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for_Routing/Precision_Router_Bases/Precision_Router_Base.html My Dremel is on the way out, poor things been with me about 15 years. I really want to replace it with something nice, but I don't use it nearly as much as I did in my teens and early twenties. I've got a few really cheap cordless models, but they suck. I might just bite the bullet and get a really sweet low speed, high torque model like http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Routers/Foredom_Power_Tools/Foredom_Power_Tool_with_Precision_Router_Base_Set.html?actn=100101&xst=1&xsr=5260 Not as fast, but supposedly very smooth to work with and would probably last the rest of my life. Doubt I would need the extra rpm as these apparently handle downward pressure without bogging out. But I'll probable end up at harbor freight.
  18. When I was evacuated in 09-2010 I watched the fire "jump" a 200yard canyon, happened like that. (I just snapped my fingers) Now the homeowners in SoCal I have zero sympathy for are the ones who choose to buy houses set into the side of hills where mudslides occur frequently(every 5 years or so about). Get a freaking clue, it's not stable ground to build off. I know, you want your horizon pool to look like your swimming into Hollywood, how neat. Tough ****.
