  1. Doh, got my days mixed up. Would have liked to have met you guys. I am up for a Sat meeting, just have to actually put it in my calendar this time.
  2. Well that answers the legality question up to a point. But would the powers that be allow that particular weapon to be made? Sorry for not being clearer on that. It seems so, but having never seen one I kind of wonder. A quick googling revealed a lot of people asking the question and what seemed to be others speculating to the answer. I know virtually nothing about shotguns and chokes and such so I am very much curious, would smoothing out just say the last 2.5" maybe even boring it out a bit larger than rifling work to keep the .45 somewhat accurate while allowing the shot to hit the smooth walls? Not trying to reinvent the wheel, just a little confused on how these things work. Also saw one other idea not yet discussed on this thread, straight rifling. Any thoughts?
  3. Nice, I have wanted a 452 for a while now. I will probably end up with a 455 though. As was pointed out to me on the forum it seems unlikely that CZ will start ruining rifles anytime soon and it would be cool to switch from lr to 17hmr.
  4. It seems to me these would make excellent camp guns. 410 for snakes and aggressive varmits, 45 colt for the larger or two legged problems. Add the fact that these would definitely qualify as one of those things to own just for the fun of it, plus the sale and I think it's a winner. Just for the sake of conversation, what would it take to get rid of the rifling in one? Could they be theoretically drilled out to make it a smooth bore? Legally? How about just the last little bit at the muzzle, would that work as a "choke" without ruining the accuracy for the .45?
  5. Glad to hear Ruger is making this right for you. It seems their reputation is well deserved, however I'm sure it's tough on them due to sheer volume sometimes. As far as the Talo pistol goes, I am very surprised they are not jumping on the chance to make it right as has been mentioned.
  6. Had a great mothers day today. Started out bringing mom (and dad) breakfast in bed. She surprised the heck out of me this year with her request to spend the day at the range! So off we went to CHMR, the whole family. Everyone had a blast and my mom (former LAPD reserve) has still got it. Hasn't shot a gun in close to thirty years and by her second mag we were calling her Annie Oakley. The best thing is we got my dad not only out of bed but out of the house, which is a pretty big deal these days as he's not doing great health wise. Any way ended the day with a big family dinner with some of her friends as guests. The only down side is I think I have to relinquish my sr22 to her as it was her clear favorite of the day. Oh well.
  7. So just to clarify, if I have three neutral three people liked a post/s and three people didn't? I think I'll opt to ignore the buttons altogether.
  8. DSF, so very sorry to hear that. Words alone cannot describe what you and your family must be feeling right now, take comfort from one another and try to give it back ten fold. Best wishes in this dark hour, Nick
  9. I was able to see them just after the reunion tour in 98 or 99. Ozzy got sighned last minute to a local music festival, the KROQ weenie roast. Well as a special guest he brought along BS and man did I go ape! They had this rotating double sided stage so while one act was doing their thing the next could get set up and ready. So Ozzys doing his thing and the crowd is going wild, after he finishes I think Bark at the moon he starts with all the "good night I love you all" stuff and slyly steppe forward off the stage which starts to turn. It gets stuck half way through the rotation and people are starting to boo and hiss. Finally they get it going again, it sets in place and the opening riff to Black Sabbath starts, the lights go up and the crowd goes completely bat sh@t! Killer show that I will always remember. Definatley go if you get the opportunity.
  10. Seems to be about right for Ruger. On the one hand it stinks that they automatically rip out any after market parts and slap in factory ones when ever a gun is sent in. On the other hand it is my understanding that you can remove said parts, send in the gun and have them send you some new factory parts in their place. Don't know but it sounds like a distributor upgrade. Maybe the distributer could help shed some light for you? Hopefully you get this worked out to your satisfaction, maybe you try your hand at electro plateing?
  11. Great game! 1. Colt 2. Walther 3. Ruger 4. Keltec *temporarily in custody of 1. S&W 2. Beretta
  12. Hoping for better news for you and yours. As I'm sure you know you need to be the rock for your family. Be strong.
  13. +1 IMO the only people who should worry about gays getting married are gays with commitment problems.
  14. It's not just the price, in fact as stated I am happy to pay a premium for quality goods AND service. What chaps me is the fact that I feel like the people at the shop in question really don't give a damn about the me the consumer. Keep in mind I'm talking about having a sales person asking if I needed any help, getting asked a question and answering over their shoulder as they start walking away before even answering the question. Anyway, a moot point as I'd honestly rather give my money to walmart than that particular store. At least the guy at the counter at my local wally world seems more than happy to shoot the bull a bit on the product he sells. A super moot point if D&T is half as good as I'm hearing as that will most likely be my go to store providing I am happy as happy with the service as I expect I will be.
  15. I should be going by to pick up a few for the family tonight. If the budget allows I'll grab a few more and whoever needs one can have one at cost.
  16. Lite? Meatloaf? Two words that don't belong in the same sentence regardless of context, IMO. Ok, I'll stop. Promise. (seriously though, ML is a great song writer and blessed with an incredible set of pipes.)
  17. So what your saying is that you would do anything for love, but you won't do that? Sorry.
  18. FWIW I agree completely. I have worked at a few mom n pop local shops and really appreciate the custom of local regulars. Being new to the area it seems shopping around would be in order, but it also seems TGO has saved me some gas money at the least. I've got no problem spending a little extra to help keep good people in business. What chaps my behind is independent shops like a certain gun store in my neck of the woods that prices items far over typical. Like 7-10% over msrp. Then look at you like you've grown a third arm when you ask more than 2 questions on an item without whipping out your wallet.
  19. Idk, I have been known to make offers lower than what a seller has asked. Having said that at times I don't even bother and just pay up the asking amount, just depends on the value as I see it. What has worked in the past to help keep the peace is to phrase my counter offer correctly. I don't just say " hey I'll give you $50 less than you wanted". It's all about tact. A guy last year had a beat to snot 1969 Gibson sg special on craigslist with some fuzzy pics and a $800 price. I politely asked if he would consider a lower offer if no one else jumped on it in a month and to keep me in mind if so. Turns out he was told the aftermarket bridge(the part the strings rest on on the body) was super rare and valuable but if he could keep it he would take $600. I went and checked it out and it was worse than I thought, non original finish multiple extra routes, a previously broken neck he claimed to have never noticed etc. I politely said I was not interested and apologized for taking up his time. He asked if there was a price point that would interest me, I said $400 as restoring it to it's former glory will be quite the challenge both time consuming and expensive. Long story not quite so long, he was very happy to have $400 and I was happy with my project geetar. So that's my story on buying something for half the original asking price and keeping both people happy with the deal. It is IMO all about phrasing the QUESTION correctly.
  20. Best wishes with this. Truth be told, I've been giving myself "exams" since I was twelve. Most enjoyable part of the morning shower.
  21. They do look a bit like a cross between a hunting rifle and a battle rifle. I bet they are sweet shooters though. There is something to be said for understated efficiency IMO.
  22. Your probably right on that from the sound of things. No word then from the owner/s? Two thoughts, I'm wondering if one of the lawyer members could shed some light on the legalities of the whole "we can't refund a gun under federal law" thing as I haven't read anything like that. Also wondering if it would help or hinder to have a whole bunch of TGOers bombard the offending store with phone calls explaining how much potentiall business they have already lost over the issue. So maybe three thoughts, DID you by chance make the purchase with a card? If so defenetly time to talk to your bank. 9 gets you 10 the store will be bending over to make you happy after the CC company hits them with a charge back. I have personally had an irate customer get a charge back AND keep a few thousand bucks worth of products. Definatly worth a go.
  23. True, without exception I have always been given my bosses personal number with explicit instructions to call immediately under such circumstances in order to help keep people happy or at the very least help a rapid decision to be made. IMO these people have no idea how to run a business. I have been looking for a good local shop to give my money to and can guarantee it will not be them if the issue is not resolved. I may not spend a lot, but typically about $200 monthly on ammo, more when I make a firearm purchase obviously.
  24. How about a couple of charcoal filters hooked up to some inline fans at either end of the "lane"? Looking online they can be had pretty cheap off Amazon with shipping thrown in. I've been thinking a house on an incline with a partially finished basement might work. Throw some thick plastic sheeting down, cover liberally with sand... I don't know, just an idea.
  25. +1 the whole thing makes me sick. Not this particular case, I haven't been following it just politicians in general. Ron Paul is about the only honest one worth a damn IMO, and that does little good to anyone not living in his district.
