  1. Yeah I've heard that before. I usually respond with thefact that by that logic any firearm with an exposed hammer is also junk. If a bad guy can take apart my Berreta he can sure as hell stop the hammer from moving rendering it useless. The only responses I've gotten have been so desperately pathetic you could just look at the guy and he'd start getting flustered. On the flip side of the coin, I have been able to take one apart quite quickly with one had for cleaning in a non stressful situation. Maybe someone with nerves if steel and lightning reflexes could do it. I just tend to doubt it.
  2. Right on, it will be cool for your son to get something made by his dad. Glad your gonna fix the old one as well, should be a fun project for you. As far as the new stock goes, are you looking for drop in or to build one from scratch?
  3. Dang that sounds like a heck of a project with no power tools. I think oak looks pretty nice and the advantage of being durable as heck. Have you ever given any thought to just restoring the old one? You may (or may not) be surprised at what you can do with some good wood glue, a few clamps and some dowels for those screw holes. A little sand paper, some tru oil, plenty of elbow grease... Yup a good restoration is just the thing I think.
  4. Thanks guys that's what I was thinking but I was just kind of unsure what a HCP had to do with purchasing a rifle. I guess if I needed another reason (which I don't) to just take the class and get it done with, there it is. Now just out of curiosity, would any of you guys consider bending your rule for someone with a C&R license? Seems like that would be a pretty safe way to ensure a body was legally allowed to possess firearms.
  5. +1 Almost like saying we shouldn't be training with them redcoats.
  6. So I've been looking through the classified section a bit and have noticed the occasional seller will list having a HCP as being neccasery for the sale. Now I realize this is a free country and one can make just about any kind of legal demands they want when selling an item, but just kind of curious a to why. Is it to ensure the buyer is legally allowed to posses firearms? Maybe some permit holders just prefer to do business with other permit holders? It's really no skin off my nose as I've yet to see anything I've "had to have" plus I probably couldn't afford it anyway, just kind of curious as to the reasoning.
  7. Satisfaction IMHO comes from within. Chasing jobs, money, social status, none of those things are worth a damn in the grand scheme of things. The things that really matter are are much simpler, friends, family, a sence of community, personal interests and hobbies. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't make the mistake of letting a given career path define who you are and where your going. Good luck with whatever you choose.
  8. Glad the new manager is trying to make this right. Hopefully the owners stay out of his way and let him turn the place around. I may give them a chance myself.
  9. Post some pictures of the stock crack if you can. Odds are you can spread it open with a clamp or two and a fulcrum point. Once it's open get some titebond in there clamp it up and wipe away the run out with a damp paper towel. Depending on the damage you may or may not need to do a little finish touch up. I'm not sure where Ardmore is having just moved to Tn, if it's in or near the Nashville area though I could give you a hand.
  10. Not necessarily, there are plenty of white supremacy/skinhead groups saying things just as bad and occasionally worse. Sometimes the hammer drops on them, sometimes it doesn't. They are for the most part "checked out" at one point and time or another by LE and I don't see any reason to believe the black supremacists are not. Now please don't get me wrong, I think this is a disgusting way for anyone to think, speak or act. Regardless of race. I also can't think that even the lefty'est leaning lefty wouldn't consider the NBPP a racist organization.
  11. Hmmm, you know this kind of make me want a jersey. You wouldn't happen to know where I could find one would you? 垃圾邮件å‘é€è€…å¸èµ° Lèsè yóujià n fÄsòng zhÄ› xÄ« zÇ’u
  12. Happy birthday Dolomite!
  13. Bite the bullet and resign yourself to one of each. If money's a bit tight check for a savage mkII bolt action to start your kids out on and have some fun yourself. 10/22s seem to be holding their price at about $200-$220 so you can always pick one up when you get everyone comfortable with the rules of firearm safety. Or you could consider a completely different route and go with a Henry lever action. They seem well made, hold multiple rounds, shoot long/ long rifle/ and shorts, cycle cbs, and you don't have to worry about multiple shots going off accidentally when training the kids. Plus lever guns are fun on a bun.
  14. Hey it was no trouble Dolomite, we're just now heading back to Nashville after spending hours at SMKW and walking around Gatlinburg, I even got some of that "moonshine". I have to admit after seeing all your bada&$ AR builds and what not I was kind of WTF?! after picking up a youth bolt action. At least that makes sence now. Lol. I figured at first you where going for a suppressed SBR or something. Anyway, good meeting you man, PaleTiger seems like a cool dude as well though we didn't have much time to chat.
  15. Ha! That was pretty much my thoughts the first time I heard about it as well.
  16. Slight change in the schedule, I can make it out tomorrow if it helps.
  17. I could do it for you this weekend or early next week if you like. I've been wanting to see more oif Tn since I moved here and this sounds like a fun trip.
  18. Craig, the last couple of builds I've seen of yours have been killer. Looking at the stuff you and Dolomite build really strikes home that the ability to do the work is only half the battle. You have to have the creativity to come up with the idea and the knowledge on what to add and when to stop adding to create this kind of stuff. Excellent job!
  19. I thought he did a good job as well. Great commercial, I always liked Denny's now even more so.
  20. sorry for all the caps, not trying to "scream" I just can't figure out how to change my font color on the iPhone. Personally I don't see that many permanent negative effects happening, maybe people "go a bit crazy" in the first few months/years. But ultimately I think the people bound and determined to do drugs are already doing them. Some with six figure or higher incomes to pay for said drugs, some with no legitimate income. As to kids changing their drug experiments from pot and alcohol to heroin and meth, I hate to say it but wake up, it's been that way for some time now. Sure it's not EXACTLY heroin, but vicodins and oxycottin(sp?) are the new "it" things, Ritalin and dexidrine are prevalent as well. The negative behaviors associated ( sometimes unfairly) with drug use may still be there, but they don't need to be decriminalized, someones intoxicated in public, through him in the tank and slap a fine on him, DUI? Say goodbye to your license. Robbery/burglary= doing time. Armed home invasion should get you a one way ticket to Texas for euthanasia. Clearly we may not agree, I just don't see the drugs being the problem so much as how we handle them.
  21. Yes. Being that my father was born in the UK, this is an issue that would strike close to home. In his case his many years as an LEO would make most arguments moot, but I personally believe anyone here legally and permanently or even semi permanently should be granted that very important right. Who in their right mind could argue otherwise?
  22. Pretty similar to the story out of Az a few years ago where a young girl fended off another scumbag with what I believe was a pink .22 rifle procured from under her moms bed. It kinda begs the question on just how well firearms should be locked away from kids.
  23. "The Gallinago snipes have a worldwide distribution, the Lymnocryptes Jack snipe is restricted to Asia and Europe and the Coenocorypha snipes are found only in the outlying island of New Zealand. The three species of painted snipes are not closely related to the typical snipes and are placed in their own family, the Rostratulidae." So there we have it. Still the origin of the term sniper though. BTW not claiming to be some kind of snipe expert, I'm sure many of you knew already they were real animals but I'm sure some had never heard of them beyond the summer camp connotation as well.
  24. Learning IS fun! I wasn't aware of any snipe native to the US. Parts of Asia and New Zealand I was aware of but not here. I guess I'm not really that surprised we have one as well.
  25. Well heck, I'd change your targets out. I'm sure the same could be said of the dozen or so people I've met there, and honestly wouldn't surprise me a bit if Charlie made the same offer. Unfortunately I don't know of any other indoor ranges in the area besides the aforementioned gun city which I can't recommend enough you stay away from if possible. I'm eagerly awaiting the armory to open as well, not so much for a place to shoot, I hear they will be renting full autos though.
