  1. Sounds like you like the CZ but aren't really in love with it. I'd probably sell it off to a TGOer who will enjoy it for what it is. That will also add to your budget a bit. If you can get enough to get the M&P for not too much out of pocket you'd be in good shape. The sks is not a hard rifle to find, I'd almost recommend getting your new comfortable handgun, lots of ammo for it as well as as much 7.62 as you can afford. Save up some cash and buy your sks later. (along with even more 7.62) That way you'll have plenty of munitions to go around when you get your new toy and you dint break the bank.
  2. That made me chuckle. LL always seemed like kind of a weenie to me but then again he is/was pretty ripped. Guess it goes to show you.
  3. Finish it up yourself. The only way to improve is through practice and it looks line your doing a good job so far. Later on if you decide you can't live with something about it, either try to fix it up or send it off but for now finish what you've started. It's coming along great and you'll always have the pride of DIY. My $0.02
  4. Sr22 is a great little gun. My mom stole mine so she shoots it more than I do and has had a few FTF/FTE out of the probably 1000 or so rounds put through it. She's been known to limp wrist though, I've never had a problem myself. That RI looks great, I seem to remember hearing there was a colt clone coming out that was supposed to be very close to the originals for not alot is scratch. Is that it?
  5. Bummer. Hope a clean and lube does the trick for you. Maybe it's ammo picky?
  6. I'd be game. Define if you would working knife. Fixed blade, folder, big, small etc. Should there be some kind of budget? I'd hate to give a substandard knife in comparison to the one I'd get. If everyone where on the same page as to what is expected this will probably go smoother in the end.
  7. With all due respect to anyone willing take the job and put on the uniform, I don't think I'd ever vote for anything to help create a second class of citizen. On base, I'd leave that up to the powers that be, but IMO young people should be neither enticed nor rewarded with alcohol in exchange for military service. I've gone back and forth mentally over the drinking age and haven't arrived at anything solid. I don't think it's right to call someone an adult, give them adult responsiblitys, and expect adult behavior, punishable by adult punishments, only to consider them a minor. On the other hand young adults(and old ones too) make dumb choices. One thing I'm wondering is how the cop in question came about knowing there was beer in the car. Didn't read the article so not sure if it says, but unless the whole car was searched the young people should have had sence enough to either cover it with a towel or put it in the trunk.
  8. Good to know, I guess OP should be fine with what he's got then. Good luck on the hunt.
  9. Doesn't Tn have laws regulating ammo capacity for hunting purposes? With the SKS you can load as many or as few as you want up to magazine capacity but I thought you had to have reduced capacity magazines for hunting purposes? Maybe not, as long as you are good legally you should be fine with the 7.62x39 with the right ammo.
  10. I'll have to look them up and try them out. A good brisket is a mighty fine thing. Ruth Cris is for me not a good option. I could easily go flat broke between steak, sides and before and after dinner drinks. Had a friend who was a bartender at one in LA and he used to bring home an ungodly amount in tips, roughly $1000 a weekend! Seems like it would be a great place to work but he said it was a huge PITA between uptight management, stuck up patrons and servers who thought their $h&t don't stink. Still bit a lot of easy jobs out there paying like that.
  11. That's awesome. You got yourself a good one there.
  12. A little balistol and a stainless brush gets the rings off everytime for me? It takes a while but that was the only way I could use dads guns when I first got old enough to shoot on my own. For blued cylinders replace the stainless brush with brass and same results until the finish "blasts off." Oh Hoppes works fine too, actually works a bit better but I bought a three can sampler of ballistol that I have to go through one way or another.
  13. Link worked fine, which one was your boy? Either way I have to say the most epic thing in that vid was the refs mustache.
  14. Very well regulated site. I also had some experience as admin on a guitar and music gear php board for awhile about ten years ago. Thankless work for the most part. I've had the pleasure and privilege to be able to help and be helped by a few people here and I have to say everyone I've met in person has been super cool. I think having a top rate team behind the scenes coupled with a top rate if not a bit eclectic user base is all the difference in the world. I personally like whichever arguments come up because the one common denominator is the people doing the arguing are actually listening to each other, not just waiting for a post so they can disagree with it... For the most part.
  15. Damn TMF that sounds good! I make a pretty mean sausage and pepper BBQ sandwich. I'll have to get the ingredients to make some and put numbers to my ratios as I just kind of eyeball it.
  16. Is that the Jacks that was/is in the middle of downtown Nashville? Some of the best brisket I've ever had, pulled pork was good too. Wasn't around for the floods and haven't been downtown since I got back so I have no idea if they were able to stay in the same building or had to move? I do know that both times I went to the summer NAMM show they always had a well deserved line out the door from locals bringing out of town vendors there.
  17. More a fan of the traditional arts personally but there are a few guys on the scene that really know what they're what doing. I think alot of people tend to overlook that Gracie who has one of if not THE best record isnt a mixed style fighter and doesn't teach MMA but real deal Brazilian JuJitsu. There has been a bit of talk in the San Soo community about getting a practitioner in the ring but I doubt it will happen. Anyway, me personally, I prefer what in LA we call "Mexican judo". "judo know what I got a gun, judo know what I got a knife"
  18. You can easily build your own. Gobsown to the local music emporium, or even online and find a keyboard case. Last time I looked they where $60-$100 for one that would suit your purposes well. Head down to home depot and get a couple cans of great stuff or any spray foam insulation, next grab either an old beach towel or make a trip to walmart for some fabric. Spray the foam in the case, lay down the fabric and press your rifles into it. Now you've got a custom rifle case. Or just grab an SKB. I've been using SKB case for guitars for about ten years and think they're great. Their rifle cases are in between the budget brands and pelicans both in cost and quality.
  19. Looked like one of those high capacity, automatic, baby scaring, hollow point holding, glocks I've been herring so much about. Or maybe it was an AK? Those are pretty bad too from what the news says, in fact I'm almost 100% convinced it was as those are the only guns worth reporting. Seriously though let's go over this one more time... YOUR RANGE BAG IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE FOR FLYING!!
  20. Also find it very doubtful. Not even Californians like Ca gun laws. In my twenty seven years there I met two groups in that regard, those that thought the gun laws were still to lax and those that thought they were a crock of sh&t. I honestly can't think of anyone who was happy with the way things were. Maybe a few who were indifferent that couldn't have told you what gun laws were to save their lives but no one happy about them.
  21. If the question is how much blacker should it be, I say none. None more black. Looks good.
  22. Damn, this season is shaping up to be a good one after all. I wonder what Walt has up his sleeve?
  23. Well in all honesty it's more "like hide glue" than being hide glue. It's from I think cattle bones so no hide. it's rendered clean so it's devoid of all the fats and grease that would typically make animal glue rot. There is (surprise surprise) a bit of Internet debate as to how strong the Knox glue is. I used it a couple of times and had no complaints and think for this kind of project it would work well, I don't know that I'd recommend using it for building furniture or anything but it does work pretty well. Took a tour if Canada about ten years ago and loved Victoria. One if the cleanest, nicest places I've ever been. Capilano was great as well. Saw a Native American Canadian who did basically the same thing with found wood. Made some very elaborate pieces and sold them off to tourists.
  24. Sks seems to vary around $250-$500 depending on country of orgin. Have both Mosins and an Sks and like shooting both. Ammo is cheap like TMF said and both are rugged as heck. If you haven't got a rifle yet I'd still recommend a 22 as the best way to get familiar with them. I've got probably around 15 or so firearms, more when you count the ones that family members have left with me to use, around 20 or so in the house, out of everything the .22s get the most range time bar none. Ammo doesn't get any cheaper and honestly I have just as much fun with them as anything else. Unless you have a specific goal in mind like hunting, long range target shooting, etc. I'd go 22 first. On the other hand shotguns are alot of fun and very versatile, I haven't shot one in a while and keep meaning to pick one up but you can have all kinds of fun with one. Between slugs, buckshot and bird shot you can do pretty much anything with a good shotgun out to about 150-200 yards or so.
  25. I'm very sorry, that is a very hard thing to go through and I'm sure even harder to do. My one biggest regret to moving back to Ca five years ago was not being home when my two had to be put down. They were good girls if not to bright and best of friends, went within months of one another. The only consolation was the 14 years of companionship and the fact that health was good all the way up till the last six months to a year. We had to buy alot of oranges out here to keep them happy as they'd gotten used to just eating them off the ground or low branches back in Ca. Sorry to hijack, your loss just reminded me how much I miss my pooches. Give yours an extra treat for me.
