I think there was a little tounge in cheek with the posting of the Yeager clip. However I think you've got the right idea, if you know what you like, go with it.
-
Countless options really. What are you looking for, a one or two time class or a long term education?
-
Cool... So what's the question?
-
How far off is way off? Do you clean the barrel after each shooting session? Could be the barrel just needs a few shots to foul it. Maybe you just need a few warm up shots to get you going, I usually do.

Nashville Armory going to be on newschannel5 today

Stopped by earlier this evening and was greeted within walking ten feet into the door. They didn't have what I was looking for but were very helpful and polite and gave me a good time frame on when it would be in. Looked around a little and was pretty impressed by their startup inventory, I think once they get going they will be a one stop shop for me. Pricing was reasonable, some things can be found for the same or slightly cheaper elsewhere but on the other hand some things had better pricing than I had seen locally. SR1911 for under $670, Mossberg MVP for under $500. I will be definitely shopping there in the future. -
Mine pretty new, bought it maybe 4-5 months ago. Haven't really shot it all that much, maybe 100 rounds at the most but haven't had any break in issues so far. I know they had some trouble with their magazines at one point though, maybe that explains it? Going to install a bipod I got on sale and then go finish the scope. For a rifle that's not totally sighted it will still pop clays at 25yards all day. Now I'm seriously considering one of the open sight models for myself. At $120. it seems I can't really go wrong...

Thanks for the heads up, good luck guys.

Hey buddy, good to see you posting up here. If your starting to look at non-10/22 options you may want consider the Remington 597. I picked one up awhile back from Walmart for $199. with a cheap but decent scope and am liking it so far. Mine hasn't got open sights but they make ones that do. One thing I like about it over the 10/22 is its more of an adult sized rifle as appossed to a carbine sized one. I want to go finish sighting in the scope soon, let me know if you want to meet up and try it out. <edit> PSA has some open sight models on sale for $120. That seems like a hell of deal if you ask me. If you don't like it I'd probably give you back your investment.

Thanks graycrait, the upgrade kit has most of those parts minus the extractor but I'm just trying to figure out if ordering the mkii kit would be compatable with my mkiii and have the benefit of removing the mag disconnect due to the mkii hammer, or is it the mkii bushing I'm after with a mkiii kit?
-
So I want to improve my mkiii a bit by swapping the grips and adding VQ hammer, sear and trigger. Luckily enough brownels sells a kit with just those upgrades in mind. One other thing I'd like to do is remove the magazine safety as it just makes take down harder than it has to be. So I'm wondering, can I buy the kit for the mkii instead? I've heard one of the fixes for the mag safety was to use a mkii hammer so pretty sure that would work but how about the sear and trigger? I'm also assuming there's no real difference to the grips right? Last but not least, anyone have any feedback on that quick take down kit from dr frankenruger? Seems like a good idea to me but haven't seen one in person. Thanks guys.

About to bite the bullet

How many mosins to a crate? I'm up to three so far but one is still soaked in cosmoline and in the box it shipped in. How many more do I need to have crate, I wouldn't mind a Tula of some flavor and hear good things about the type 53. -
So... We doing this or what? Might be stopping by SMKW in the next few days and curious what I should buy.
-
That there is a fine looking pig. How much sausage so you think a guy could get out of one of those things? That's one thing that's stopping me from hog hunting, I have no idea how much freezer space to designate for something like that. Good job!
-
You'd have to consult your local gunsmith for that buddy. Maybe Predator Custom can help? You know I've had this perverted idea of having my Blackhawk parkerized, might look sharp on your rifle. The usual park job runs $100-$150.
-
It's entirely possible and infact probable I'm a bit off on my guess. I'm coming from the thought that I can pickup a hex receiver of random manufacture for about $130. I'd pay another $20 just to be sure of Tula manufacturing and personally the draw of a prewar example just doesn't so it for me, so maybe another $20 for that. Possibly a devoted collector would offer more but I'm not sure I would bank on waiting if I was in the sellers place.
-
I could argue that, but what's the point? It seems that most people have their minds made up and don't want any scientific reasoning interfering with their current thought process. Myself, I disagree. Now can we all go back to laughing at tacticool chuckle heads and arguing the benefits of our choice in the Glock Vs. 1911 debate?
-
Sorry cant help with the monetary value. What I can recommend is not getting rid of it, guns given from a grandparent/parent should be cherished possessions. There may come a time when you really wished you had grandpaws old .22 to show your kids what folks used before they had tacticool plinkers. Keep it.

I think blueing is best left to a pro. Sure they make cold blueing kits, but all told you will probably be much happier with the look of a professional hot blue job. Now if its just a beater/truck gun, go for it though under those circumstances I'd probably be looking more at a spray on finish personably.
-
It seems the hex receivers are commanding a +$30-$40 difference as apprised to round. The Tula is more desirable to certain collectors but some don't care either way. Being pre war I believe is a selling point as well. All told your probably looking in the $150 range or somewhere there abouts. A lot will depend on the buyer, how motivated are they to pick up your sure thing as appossed to waiting around and finding one in the $120 or so range.

Having dinner at Burger Republic tonight in Nashville. Great beer selection over here, starting off with their Octoberfest sampler; Sam Adams Octoberfest, Victoryfest bier, Paulner Oktoberfest, Yazoo Gerst. Just as a 5oz apiece sampler before I move on to Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and maybe a glass of Left Hand Milk Stout for desert. Yeah I'm a bit of a snob but at the same time I'm not too proud to enjoy a few pitchers of Miller lite at the bowling alley.

Those seem to be pretty sought after, odds are you could have a bunch of fun with it and get your money back out of it later if you felt inclined. I'd especially do it if your setup to reload, those things have a pricey diet.

From the 1972 Shafer Commision on the dangers of "marihuana" as they spell it. "Some users commit crimes more frequently than non-users not because they use marihuana but because they happen to be the kinds of people who would be expected to have a higher crime rate, wholly apart from the use of marihuana. In most cases, the difference in crime rates between users and non-users are dependent not on marihuana use per se but on other factors." Remember this is from the government funded project with the end goal to prove once and for all how dangerous pot was/is. Now a bit from a book on the subject co wrote between John Morgan ( Professor of Pharmacology at City University of NY Medical School and Adjunct Prof at Mount Sinai School of medicine. Widely published in numerous medical journals.) And Lynn Zimmer, a Professor of Sociology at Queens college, University NY. She is also a highly published author in her field. On the criminal dangers of marihuana. "Every serious scholar and government commission examining the relationship between marijuana use and crime has reached the same conclusion: marijuana does not cause crime. The vast majority of marijuana users do not commit crimes other than the crime of possessing marihuana. How bout a bit if info on the topic of highway safety? "There is no compelling evidence that marijuana contributes substantially to traffic accidents and fatalities. At some doses, marijuana affects perception and psychomotor performance which could affect driving ability. However, in driving, marijuana produces little or no car-handling impairment- consistently less than that produced by low to moderate doses of alcohol." "Surveys of fatally injured drivers show that when THC is detected in the blood, alcohol is almost always detected as well."

I'd shoot it too, but that doesn't say much. I could see the appeal behind the idea just don't think it was executed well. But hey maybe the guy has a dozen M1s and just wanted something fun and different. I wouldn't have done it but hey WTF? -
Rare indeed is the thread on TGO that doesn't get hijacked to one degree or another, at least you are on topic. Welcome to TGO BTW!
