To be really proficient two hand helps regardless of position. Using your weak hand to lift your pant leg while grabbing with your strong hand will be much easier and less likely to snag.

Does writing letters usually get a response? I tried writing an email months ago with a question on my C&R bound book and never heard back. Maybe it's time to take pen to paper?

Well my father used to carry outside strong side and was very proficient with that setup, so much so that he was able to consistently qualify with an expert score under timed qualification shoots with his PD. having said that there is at least one benefit to carrying inside weak if your a righty, that being if you need to get at your gun while driving you wouldn't need to take your foot away from the pedals to do it without having to noticeably reach for it. You may or may not find one of them much easier to accomplish, you just have to try both to see what works.

With a five year wait I wouldn't be looking to jump into bed with anything currently on the market. Not that there is anything wrong with <insert firearm here>, but who knows what's coming in the years to come. Instead I'd do as suggested and RENT as many different models in as many different calibers from now till then. It'll give you something constructive to spend your money on and provide you with an opportunity to save up enough cash to buy whatever you want almost regardless of budget. You may just decide that not only do you want a 1911, but you've just got to have whatever the high end model in five years will be. There won't be many 21 year olds able and willing to drop $2500 on their first handgun but if you wanted too, you'd be able with that long to save up.

Beat me to it. That's correct, the bullet button trumps all the rest. All said and done if I were still in Ca I'd just bite the bullet and grab a mini 14. It would serve much the same purpose and at least I'd be able to change magazines without a tool.

Haven't had any issues with keltecs, if I did I'd fluff'n buff them or send them back to KT. I'd go with the lighter one that's easier to conceal, holds more ammo and reloads faster. Wonder which one that is....

Why Romney will win this election

Strictly MHO but I think the 10/22 would make a better truck gun. I really like my 597 and all but Ruger makes a more durable firearm for tossing in the truck and not caring if it gets banged up. Plus their 25rd mags actually work. Did you get the scope that came stock from Remington? I've thought about upgrading it but so far haven't come up with a good reason to justify the cash spent. Is the Leopold that much better that I should pick one up?
-
I've got the bull barrel 597 with rails cut into the receiver and there are no dovetails on mine... Thought about having someone do the work but considering how inexpensive these are I could probably buy a second one with open sights for close to the cost of having them put on. PSA was having a sale on them with open irons for a whopping $119. Even after shipping and transfer costs that's a hell of a deal.

Assuming you don't have a bayonet lug you should be good to go with the addition of a bullet button. IIRC, you'll need to double check at the CaDOJ website, you can disassemble your regular magazines and bring them in as parts. You can then ship the rifle to yourself at your new address assuming someone will be there to take delivery of the package. The laws in Ca ARE stupid, but contrary to popular TGO belief there is a large shooting community with some good people. Take the opportunity to get some great tacos and enjoy the weather.

Dang I gotta get into a 101 so I can catch up to OS. You know, I honestly think Ruger might be my favorite firearm manufacturer all told. Their stuff isn't the prettiest but all the ones I've owned are just incredibly solid, utilitarian guns. Add in the fact that I can afford them and its only for the sake of variety that I even buy anything else.

That's a sharp looking revolver for sure! Great job picking out your first.

Check out some YouTube videos on the subject. While I can't say for sure it's as easy it doesn't look hard. The whole trigger group drops right off the receiver with the removal of one pin and it looks pretty straight forward in there. The bolt comes out with the removal of the two rails it runs on and IIRC the extractor is held in with one pin and tensioned with a small spring. If your thinking about replacing parts right off the bat I would recommend getting a beefier charging handle. I haven't had any problems with mine, but it is the one thing that seems like it could be better out of the box. <edit> you have to remove the charging handle to remove the bolt anyway, once the two rails are out I'm pretty sure it just yanks out of the bolt.

To not have to get insurance company's involved I think you did all right. Must be an interesting story on how >$2000 turned into $800. Enjoy your drink, I'll bet you earned it.

That about sums it up, but make no mistake the 101 is IMO not really "compact" so much as smaller than the 100. The sp would be a bit large/heavy for say a pocket carry. Love my gp100, my bedside/bump in the night gun.

Congrats, now help us burn through this surplus of old Russian war machines!

Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
TrickyNicky replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
^^^ This +1. While I do agree with OhShoot and MrDavid, IMO too many folks seem like they almost want the UN to "come git em" most of the scenarios mentioned hear are nothing but laughable if your tin foil head gear isn't cutting off the circulation to your noggin. The most likely gun control that would be successfully executed will be psychological, through "educating" kids little bit by little bit on the "evils and dangers" of guns one day there just won't be the interest for future generations. Once the interest is gone a sole voluntary buy back would suffice just fine for all bit the hold outs. The good news is this is one scenario we all can combat. By mentoring and teaching young people the skill and pleasure of the shooting sports we do more for the cause in the big picture than by burying an AK and a few cases of munitions in the yard. -
Runco is right on with this one, the value of the truck has about as much to do with the equation as the average price of pork in Israel. Which is to say nothing at all. Who took the truck in for the quote and where did they take it? I'd personally want to be involved in the estimate process as much as possible. Quite possible she's blowing smoke, or the shop is taking advantage of the fairer sex...

Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Ex-Soldier Near LaGuardia

I'm just glad sixteen people weren't hit by ricochets and bullet fragments in the act of shooting one person, this IS the NYPD we're talking about here. -
Hilly, I'm very sorry to hear about the troubles you both are facing. A very similar thing happened to me as welll when I was about your age, a girl I had known all my life was diagnosed with leukemia and unfortunately passed within weeks of the news. I hope your situation has a much happier resolution for you two. I would like to say I commend you on being a fine young man and sticking through this with your girl, I think a lot of young people your age would be looking for a tactful way to cut and run to escape the drama. Good on you, stay by your girl and cherish whatever time you are given. It sounds like she has the fighting spirit and that can make all the difference in the world, she hasn't given up hope so don't fall into despair, for her sake as well as your own. Although I am no longer a church going man I echo the thoughts of those who are, seek comfort in your faith and parish. I'll be rooting for you guys. Nick P.S. Brother if you ever need to get it all out and talk to someone who's walked a mile in those shoes, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Eh, not to be to picky but I don't think anyone at TSA is issued a gun. I'll check but I'm pretty sure it's limited to airport PD, Air Marshals, and other real LEA. That is a scary thought though, TSA with guns... -
Hell I joined TGO before I even lived in Tn. Found the place online researching ranges in Nashville and liked the cut of the jib so much I joined up before the move. I'd definitely stay on board if I had to relocate.
