  1. I still think Mr David has the right of this. Our biggest threat comes from the "reeducation" currently happening now. You want to keep guns around for future generations to enjoy? Start by helping the next generation to enjoy them. I feel fortunate to say that both my mother and sister are educators and unlike the majority out there don't play the brainwash game. They teach what's in the curriculum and when asked about a moral/religious issue they turn the ball over to the students parents. I also feel proud and humbled that I have been able to introduce the concept of safe, fun enjoyment of firearms to a handful of youngsters and a few adults as well. Among them a few of both political persuasions who had no practical involvement with the sports and walked into the encounter "anti gun" and left asking questions about the best way to store and secure the firearms they were planning on purchasing. Like I said, you can prepare for a confiscation or help ensure that one never happens by countering the brainwashing and creating another 2A believer or even just a casual shooter. At the least you can put a face on the term "gun nut" that people you interact with will think about hopefully with some form of of reapect whenever the issue comes up. Case in point, my sister has become a casual shooter over the last year or so. While a confiscation wouldn't be the end of the world for her personaly she would never support one because she knows how one would effect me. While that's not an ideal example it's much better than having another person support a weapons ban.
  2. I understand there's not much markup on guns at least not sure about ammo. You should be paying close to cost. Awesome!
  3. True, super tight pins. Also for me the fit was very tight around the rear pin for a PSA upper. Could probably take a bit of wet/dry sandpaper to open it up a bit but it fits so I probably won't. Anyone else's super snug around the rear pin?
  4. I think it looks fine? Maybe just refit what you got.
  5. There's a few good one on there so you should be ok. I guess it's not really hard just a PITA.
  6. Cool, one of these days after I finish my last two ARs I'd really like to custom build a bolt gun from a Savage action. Good job!
  7. Real vodka is sooo much better than the crap we get here. Anyone who's ever had Starka knows what I'm talking about. At least there's an upside if the Russians come marching in.
  8. That bad, I guess that's relative but to the best of my knowledge it is the only pistol who's manufacture recommends taking a mallet to it to strip. I'd rather detail strip pretty much anything else I own than field strip the Ruger.
  9. Lol yeah it didn't get any better with the mkiii either. The stupid mag disconnect just adds another unwanted step. I've thought about getting one of those quick strip kits but haven't taken the plunge. The good news is they only really need to be stripped every 5-10k rounds IMO.
  10. Man that sucks, they have a really great place there. Hope it's not a total wash for them, worse case I hope they can find a bigger better location but still would be nice to not have to move.
  11. Eh not quite that useless. Here's another one that's actually worse than the previous two. A Star model B in 9mm. I really really like this gun, it's accurate comfortable and relatively cheap to shoot but its just not reliable. The 9mm model Bs were originally designed around the 9mmLargo and when they changed them over to the 9mmLuger they only changed the barrel/chamber using the old Largo magazines. The Largo is just a bit longer than the Luger and regular 9mm does not feed well from the magazine. I have found that it works best if I slap the magazine a few times to get the rounds to sit flush but its still a crap shoot. It either tries to feed two at a time or raises the next round which makes extraction all but impossible. Damn shame too, I really want to love it as a shooter but its just not reliable. Here's a pic showing the gap in between the nose of a bullet and the wall of the magazine.
  12. That's about right, probably should have said impractical. Yours however is totally BA! I've wanted a broomhandle since I was probably five or so. Color me jealous.
  13. Whoa! What a pisser, hope everyone's safe, and the damage is minimal. Times like this will really make a business owner appreciate having good insurance.
  14. Ok day two. Mostly just did some make work so far today. Chopped up a fallen sage orange into little bits. For those that may not know these are inedible seed pods about the size of a softball and very solid. I have been told but can't confirm that they were used as impromptu weapons during the civil war. Not sure if that's true but these could easily knock some someone clean out if thrown at their head. The knife went through them like butter, I could basically just let it fall under its own weight and it would cleave right through on its own. Next up cleared some lower branches off some peach and apple trees. This was more light chopping where the Bowie performed admirably. This may look like a knife but I gotta tell you it's really a long bladed hatchet. So that's it for now, nothing to exciting but so far the Flatwoods Forge Bowie has done everything I've asked and done it well. Now to see if I can find some coconuts for some authentic piña coladas.
  15. Hence the quotation around useless, of course their not totally useless just the less usefull out of what you own. Runco and Greg I think have the right idea. Those Savages are functional I presume therefore usefull but when viewed next to say a single six not so much. For my picks I will undoubtedly find a use for the double barrel beyond range toy and the Nagant is an important part of my growing collection so it's got it's own purpose. Still pretty "useless" though. Now I'm sure there's more out there, lets see em guys.
  16. I'll agree with most of what The Punisher says. I think most people have little or no desire to wake up and smell the coffee, they DO like their heads in the sand. It's much more comfortable living in lala land than it is to live in the real world where we have so many problems. I don't think many like watching what's happening in and to this country but they've grown so complacent that the idea if buckling down and facing the issues confounds and scares them. And of course they love our president, not because he's a commie and not because their commies but simply because he tells those comfortable little lies that allow them to keep living their lives of delusion. IMHO.
  17. So I'm sure we've all got one or two lurking around, I'm talking about those guns that serve absolutely no real purpose except helping to fill the gun shaped holes in our lives. You've got nicer, more collectible, far more practical choices yet still you like them for what they are and maybe are not. Lets see your "useless" guns!! Here are mine: a Stoeger double defence I recently acquired from G&L mainly because they were having an awesome sale on them and also because I just liked them. I could have gotten a used 870 but, I didn't. Instead I went with something a bit different. Beneath that I have my Nagant revolver. I went and spent the extra little bit to get a CCCP(SSSR to us Americans) marked ones because I wanted have something cool and historical. It's a neat gun but between having to order ammo online and the outrageous trigger pull, meh I doubt I'll be shooting it soon if ever. Lets see yours!!
  18. Good question OS, I always have put my SS# just for that reason. I figured considering "they" already have my name and address on the form and "they" issues me the # in the first place it wouldn't be to hard for them to put two and two together to make four anyway. Plus I try to do business with LGS who seem like good people, if they should prove to be not so good people I'm still willing to bet they don't want anything to do with the guy who just bought a new gun and a crate of ammo.

    Awesome, looks great!
  20. Got a few trees to trim up for the winter, post that tomorrow. Might also grab a few other thing to chop, smash, cut as well. I'm seriously tempted to take this thing to a cinder block, I have no doubt it would win but I don't way to be TOO rough on it as its not mine.
  21. Ok so here we go! First a few more picks of the knife. And one with a 308. For a width reference. Pretty beefy! So anyway, I had these vines growing on the corner of the fence for a while now they looked good but were causing damage so they had to go. Amongst the vines also had some other mysterious bush/small trees groing. This one was a little over an inch in diameter. It was tough, flexible and green, the kind of stuff a lesser blade will bounce right off of. Not this knife... One swipe. That's all she wrote. Funny thing is I was just taking a warmup swipe, never even touched the plant, I think the Bowie just intimidated it into falling off broken. So anyway ten minutes of chopping yanking and now the fence looks much better.
  22. Dolomite will know better than I will but I'm thinking your best bet may be a whole new FCG as appossed to replacing any one part since the trigger, hammer and all are all polymer. But then maybe it won't matter too much, plenty of poly pistols with poly rails out there.
  23. Freedoms absolutely. Pricing, eh pretty close for the most part. The big issue in Ca is that it's gotten hard to find quality shops who make their money solely through firearms and firearm accesories. They're out there and when you find them the prices are good, for the most part though your limited to sporting good stores that happen to sell guns. As far as pricing here goes it is much easier to find a good shop that prices guns for a quick easy sale but there are a few places that are awfully proud of their inventory. So much so that it seems they just can't bear to part with anything for a reasonable price. The big advantage I've found out here is that it's easier to find an FFL willing to do online transfers for around $20. The place closest to me in Ca wouldn't do it at all if they could order it themselves from their distributer, when they did do it it was $100 for the transfer. A guy who specialized in transfers would order anything legal but tacked on $150 for the transfer. Last transfer I did in Tn cost me $15 through D&T and that was for three lowers. I saved $335 over what it would have cost just for transfers unless I wanted to drive for over an hour in Ca. All in all you won't hear me complaining about gun pricing in Tn anytime soon. I've been to the other side of the mountain, and it was bad.
