How many guns before you are hoarding them?
TrickyNicky replied to walton6467's topic in General Chat
Unless we're talking Nagants right? Out of the few people I know that know about them I'd say very few think anything of it at all. I like to collect things always have since I was a little kid. I do think my family thought the amount of ammo I keep was weird until we went on a family range day. After they learned that we went through 1500 rounds of 22, 300 9mm, 200 7.62x39, and probably about 100-150 38/357 they started getting the idea. It was also a real eye opener when I said I would be bringing only enough for myself and my parents on the next trip and everyone else had to buy their own. They showed up gripping and yet bragging about spending about $100 and were shocked at how little they got to shoot. They thought bullets were free or something. Now they understand why I buy a few boxes every week or so even if I'm not planning on shooting anytime soon. I say buy as many as you can without sacrificing you or your family's quality of life and forget what anyone thinks. Haters got to hate. -
Cool Springs has been pretty well stocked lately. I do wish they would get in some bulk 223 that I've heard other locations carry though. I just like the fact that my grocery list includes socks and bullets and I don't look under dressed in sweat pants and an undershirt.

ebook / ereader question for those that use them
TrickyNicky replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
Went with the nook color so not sure if it helps but I can sign into my account on either the reader or iPhone and access the books in my virtual library. I've never tried to do both at the same time but understand that you cannot. What made you go for the kindle? Just curious to see what the opinions are as I stopped looking altogether when I got my reader. -
Blasphemy!!

Nashville area: anyone recommend a good Kung Fu school?
TrickyNicky replied to vujade's topic in General Chat
Exactly! Kinda. Lol! -
Yeah I think Hilly did the right thing, giving a friend the opportunity to own something he truely treasures and making a nice profit on top of it. Good on ya!
-
Cool little rifles indeed. Looks like its in good shape as well, the last one offered to me was trashed to the point I just had to pass. Good find!
-
That would be cool as hell! It how about some way to turn your chipmunk into a rifle then back to a pistol now that the legalitys have been squared away?

My PSA upper is just fine. Took longer to get here than they had said it would but that seems par for the course. I will probably buy another.

Not really, you may or may not be surprised at the attitude some people have that their choice is the only right choice for anyone because their style is the best period. Personally I think a lot has been held back by keeping a closed mind. -

Well at first it was because some of my other friends were already doing it so it was a no brainier to get started. I have nothing but respect for BJJ but IMO San Soo is just a more practical fighting system devoid of the concept of anything aside from rapidly engaging and removing the threat of harm to oneself. In a perfect world I would have the time and resources to study and practice both but that's not the case for right now. A lot of it also comes down to my belief that San Soo is a bit more versatile. BJJ is great if your facing one adversary with a little bit of time to wait for him to make a mistake, how effective is it against two or even three attackers when circumstances demand an immediate action?(honest question as I've never studied it so don't know) I know San Soo can be effective in a situation like that. All in all just personal preference I guess, I do think anything is better than nothing and from what I've seen with very skilled practicitioners of numerous styles a lot of it get equaled out in the wash anyway. -
So I thought it might be fun to post some pics of some of your other interests since we're such an eclectic yet similar group. Besides shooting I've been collecting guitars for a little over a decade. I love playing, working on, talking about and just generally being around guitars. My favorite style is definitely the solid body electric, a lot of cool stuff happens with a few planks of wood and some wires. Here's the bulk of the collection minus a few I haven't moved back from Ca yet. So what about you guys, what else makes your socks go up and down.

Ok so the last test was done today and the Bowie will be shipped to Maroonandwhite in the AM. So here we have our coconut. It's a nice one too. The first thing we have to do is shave it to get rid of all the excess fibers then dig a hole in one of the dark spots that look like bowling ball holes. Here's a shot of the coconut draining its juice to save for later. Next your supposed to tap along the side until it splits. This kind of motion is what I was talking about being slightly harder than it has to be. Tapping the sides was as boring as it sounds. Here's what happens when you decide to liven it up. A nice big pile of coconut. Colada makins! So the good news is the knife once again performed great. Basically let it fall under its own weight with minimal effort and it took care of the rest. The bad news is I made the WORST drink I've ever made and I hate freaking coconut! So all in all how do I feel about the Flatwoods Forge Bowie? That's my happy face!

I've heard great things about Chuck Coreys school for San Soo. He was taught by a first generation Jimmy Woo student and was given the title of master by Jimmy himself. The thing that sits big with me is my instructor over 1500 miles away knows of and approves of Mr. Corey. You'll probably get a lot of people telling you to go check out Gracie BJJ wich seems big around here or krav magra but I would seriously look into the San Soo if you haven't yet. I will eventually be attending once I get a few things squared away with my personal life. -
So a pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel sticking out of the front of his pants. The bartender says "Hey, what's that sticking out of you parts?" To which the pirate replies "Argh. I don't know, but its driving me nuts."

Looks like it was worth the wait. I kind of threw my first one together and while I like it just fine my next one will be much better planned out to help me get what I really want out of it. Once I figure out what I really want that is.

And another reason why James Yeager is a tool
TrickyNicky replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I don't know, I was actually agreeing with him on this issue and still could get more than two minutes in. The way he comes across is like someone who's going to drop an insightful knowledge bomb on us any second, then when he gets there he says something like "a 9mm magazine of the same size as a .45 will hold more rounds, sometimes DOUBLE the amount!" And I'm left no wiser than I was two minutes before. Lets also not forget this little jewel of advise "Glocks have no external safety so they're simple to operate." Really!?!? No way! I guess his videos could be helpful to someone with no real knowledge to stand on, but he seems to market himself as a gun guys gun guy and IMO falls a bit short. -

I don't think the lower has to be marked as pistol but you may(or may not) have an issue if the reciever was listed as a rifle on you 4473. As far as switching back and forth it seems the TGO jury is out with two very knowledgable members interpreting things a bit differently. Personaly I would probably just get a seperate pistol and rifle reciever that way not only are you in the clear but you have two useable guns ready to go without having to change a bunch of stuff. And of course if you have a pistol upper be sure to have a pistol lower to avoid an unpleasant vacation at the tax payers expense. -
P.S next inline send me your shipping info and ill get it out tomorrow or the next day.

Personally I'd give it a solid 10. It would be nice to have something a bit lighter for camping but when you take it into account the fact that you can leave the hatchet at home the weight makes sense. One thing I would say is that it would be nice to be able to hold it backwards, then it could serve as a hammer on the backside to drive tent spikes and whatnot. Overall though I was very impressed plus like I said in one of your other threads I love the raw civil war era look.

Most likely someone here unless D linked it to another forum. Didn't know the ATF was on TGO, hi guys! -
Yeah, I'm thinking an M1 would fit the bill nicely. They're snazzy as is of you could easily attach any number of tacticool add ons to make it yours. Other than that unless your bound and determined to spend it all on any one gun I'd start looking at some combinations to get you more options. You could get a Ruger Gunsite scout rifle along with a CETME and your dies and probably finish it off with enough to get some 308 brass and bullets.
-
I think there's a lot of false bravado being thrown around in this thread.
-
DPMS makes a 308 in the AR platform well below your budget. You'd have plenty left over for store bought ammo or even a decent reloading setup with components to roll your own. You could also go the FAL route as well and get a good one with that kind of scratch. Or you could build one hell of a range gun in a bolt action platform. Aside from not hunting what are your primary shooting interests? A little more info could really help us help you narrow it down. <edit> rebel drummer just hit the nail on the head IMO, Springfield M1. "Bring enough gun."
