1. Awesome! Looks like you guys had yourselves a good time there. I bet you could fell that tree pretty easy with a few more well placed shots, let us know if you get around to it.
2.
Well I guess you guys are gonna ride me out on a rail when I say this.. and before I do I understand everyone works hard for their money and can do what they want with it. But I for one will NOT buy a firearm from wally world, nor will I buy ammo.. I support my LGS, why ??? Well when I visit I am treated like family, never spoken down to.. Always treated fairly. At wal-mart I am just another number.. Wal-mart is killing the little guys, and what are we going to do when the little guys are gone??? Do you think you will find a "Gunsmith" at wal-mart??? Nope... Like I said it is your money, do what you will.. But please stop feeding the beast..
I don't know, I have always gotten exceptional treatment from the two regular guys at my local WM. Even the noodle head who thought 5.56 was over powered for deer getting was polite, just not very well informed. I "spread the wealth" in regards to the local shops, when it comes to things like guns, holsters, accessories of that nature I shop local with TGO vendors or worst case online usually with Joebobs who are also vendors. When it comes to ammo I hate to say it but I buy too much to not save everything I possibly can shy of reloading(yet) or buying in the kind of bulk that would allow me to break even. All in all I save a few bucks and I'm confident I help keep the mom and pop stores in business as well.
3. Man that is a nice looking P1 at a great price. Don't know if you can find them much less than $350 these days, that's what I paid a few months ago to southern Ohio gun. The one SOG sent me unfortunately looks like a it got dragged by a truck. Luckily it shoots better than my last one which was a pristine example so I guess it's all equal in the end. I am still a little peeved that SOG had them listed as excellent condition when at least mine is far from, plus I spent the extra for hand picked. Probably wont be doing much business with them in the future based on that. Sorry for the rant, these are great pistols made very well and a lot of fun to shoot. I can't look at mine without thinking about the man from U.N.C.L.E. gun.
4. No way would I snicker at a good .22. Out of all my firearms the .22s get the most range time by far and as far as I'm concerned one can't have too many. I've got 5 myself and looking into numbers 6 and seven. Also many many instances of folks defending themselves and loved one with this underrated little cartridge. Not my first choice personaly but for some (elderly, disabled, arthritis, etc.) it's their only viable choice. Honestly don't know why some claim that .22 is a "weenie" round, I've offered a few of them the opportunity to put their money where their mouths are but no one seems to want to prove how ineffective it is with even a trivial flesh wound... Congratulations on the first of what will most likely be many.
5.
Think about it from the manufacturer side. They must be the same, or they would run the risk of alienieting the customers or open themselves up to some liability.
This, plus think of the extra investment to build two sets of parts, doesn't make a lick of sense.
6. Yeah I tried the stock and it was a no go. Had I known I would have just ordered the comm spec stock and been perfectly happy but now it just seems to make sense to go with a new tube so I have a backup stock/tube set in case I go SBR with my pistol or just need a backup. Knowing the inner diameter is the same definitely simplifes things, thanks guys.
7. Tapco AR mil spec extension tube kit. It's getting good reviews but I was wrong about it coming with a wrench. Seems a bit on the pricey side too at $62. Oh well I've got some time to figure it out, between Christmas and a certain pistol I'm looking to procure this will either be going on the gift list or just wait.
8. So recently found out one of my ARs came with a commercial spec buffer tube rather than mil spec. Of course I found out when I ordered and received a mil spec buttstock. Now rather than return the magpul I figured I'd rather just replace the tube and keep the comm spec as an option for my pistol if I decide to go the SBR route. My question to you pros is are the springs and everything inside the tube compatable between the mil and comm spec? There's a kit on amazon I could buy that's all inclusive so I'd defiantly have everything plus it comes with an AR wrench so may go that route as well... Still with X-mas coming up it would be nice to not have to spend more than I really need. What do you all think?
9. Killer deal on a great little pistol, congratulations on a great "stocking stuffer".
10.
Seems harsh considering that the ###hole officer in Canton who threatened to shoot a concealed carry permit holder in the face was determined to have done nothing wrong and could be rehired.
100% agree. Something else is going on here and I would not be surprised to find out this is but the straw that broke the camels back in this case, having 18 years on the job I have to wonder what else has happened in that time frame because I just can't believe that an issue like this would equate to losing his job unless there have been many other complaints issued in the past. That Canton cop should have been fired for that one incident and from what I remember there were others.
11. That worked, thanks. Spots I wouldn't worry about that knife to be honest. It's like the Chuck Norris of Bowies.
12. Can't get the video link to work on my iPhone?
13. Hey I like me some crocks!
14. Was looking at the paclites but heard some unpleasant things about them going bad in an untimely fashion. IIRC the bolt can peen the face of the chamber. Much rather go with Ruger, doubt it will have any issues and even if it does they'll take care if it.
15. If they are in fact steel it's on my short list. Out of curiosity anyone know if the recievers are interchangeable with a standard mkiii? I guess it doesn't really matter much but if its possible I would prefer to shoot it that way. That way if I get my butt in gear and get a volquartzen kit in my mkiii I wouldn't have to get one for the 22/45 as well...
16.
5.56 is underpowered and inhumane. It has no business on the hunting field or battlefield. That’s just my opinion though, our government experts obviously don’t agree.
I'm with you on the 5.56, underpowered for what it's being used for, on the other hand I do think its a pretty ok intermediate cartridge and does have its place in battle. I would rather be able to carry more than less rounds up to a point. I know there are plenty of deer felled by plenty of people using 223/5.56 and if they're able to cleanly and humanly more power to them but I do think its a funny caliber choice for something that size. None the less his reasoning remains ludicrous IMO.
17.
plenty of ammo on the shelves, but my favorite .22 ammos are hard to find again.
I've been stocking up for a while on my favorites. Got about 10-12 boxes of the Federal target match, 3-4 Federal bulk packs and my Walmart had 1600 rounds if mini mags all ready to go in a plastic ammo can. The cci was a little expensive but it was super convenient as I'm running out of cans.
18. I don't know, the guys at my local wal mart are a couple of good ole boys. They know their way around their limited selection just fine. One exception is the guy who works electronics and helps out late at night. He's apparently "from the Army" and is under the impression an AR in 5.56 will do more damage to a deer than 00 buck shot. According to him buck shot was built for deer but there won't be much left if you shoot one with an over powered AR.
19.
Hey. Firearms are for sporting purposes. You only own them with govt permission. If they deem them too dangerous, by all means submit them to your local U.N station....get a receipt! And enjoy you impish, slavish, serfdom while your female loved ones are enslaved to satisfy the needs of the troops! Awesome!
What? Impish serfdom? What choo talking bout Wilis?
20. I think both Spots and graycrait have points. The good news is if they wear hats no one will know... Seriously though, I have had cheap $6 gas station knifes that performed quite admirably for many months or even years doing repetitive tasks such as cutting cardboard for 4 hours a day every other day and done it well. By the same token just because they served the purpose does not mean that they were the best tool for the job. A buddy of mine does heavy equipment operating and is a grade checker. He can wear out most knifes in months if not weeks. He finally wizened up and stuck a mini kabar on his belt and has had good results with that for about a year. I think it depends more on how and how often you use a knife that it will or will not work well for you than what it's made out of. I could use a $6 cheap onto break down 30,000-40,000 boxes when I don't care how nice the cuts are just so long as the boxes flatten out to fit in the trash. To that end I can and have used the blunt side of a bic lighter to tear down boxes, coworkers laughed but hey, you can't argue with results.
21. Updated my profile with a some interests, the cool thing is IMO it doesn't really matter what we get as it truely is the thought that counts. Now having said that I'm putting in some skull sweat behind mine because my recipient is one of the more interestingly diverse people on the board. We're all unique but this guy has got me stumped.
22. Another question for the OP, how do you like that mag well grip? I'm thinking one of those would really set my "plastic fantastic" AR into the just about perfect realm. I'm between that or the magpul hand stop/ slanted foregrip thing. Would prefer a mag well grip though as that seems to be the area my hand naturally gravitates towards when shooting...
23.
A magnet?
Took the words right out of my mouth.
24. Not Tn at all but you'll be hard pressed to beat the CMP store in Alabama. Garands, Carbines, 03's and more.
25. Hey, close to Wally World is still mighty good. I'm in the unfortunate position of living equally close to Franklin Gun Shop and wal mart. As I'm sure you can guess the mart gets my ammo business so far. Glad to know I can start giving my custom to an independently owned shop without paying close to double for a box of cartridges. I like to spread my money around, G&L will be getting my new gun and gunsmith money, D&T gets my transfer and accessory money, hopefully this new shop will get my ammo money. Nashville armory will be getting my money on all the above when I don't feel like traveling more than 5 min away for whatever I'm in the market for plus most likely will get a membership out of me pretty soon. Good luck to your buddy on his new shop, good to know there's more local options homing to town.
