I'm way over due to get my permit, I have been thinking about which pistol to use and originally was going to go with one of the 22s due to the price in ammo, now I'm wondering if it wouldn't make more economical sense to use a .38? They generally get less range time so I won't miss the ammo as much. Before anyone can say anything, I do not plan to necessarily carry what I use to take the test, I want the test to be economical is all. I will and already do practice with my preferred carry guns frequently. I'm a pretty miserable shot when it comes to bullseye type shooting but have no problem hitting COM on a given target with any of my guns.

Here's a bit if stupidity here for you. The gun store that gave the LAPD officers the weapons to take down the BGs ended up closing due to legislation that was passed after the fact. The guys at B&B Guns apparently didn't so much as bat an eye when officers came in saying they were in trouble and needed weapons better than their own. Gave them what they needed. Bonus info, my old store was a block away from the bank. I know people who were there that day who still can't believe it. One guy said he stood outside his shop for five minutes dumbfounded that what would have been cheesy in a movie was actually happening in real life right in front of him.

Also, if this is your first time removing Cosmoline check out my thread in the C&R section. A lot of good advice in there from some of the knowledgable members here. I'll even go bump it for you so you can find it.

Are you trying to clean it? Or are you going to strip and refinish it? If your just trying to clean it I'd recommend Murphy's oil soap diluted as per the instructions on the bottle. As for preserving it, those things are dipped in shellac, they only need to be kept clean, not oiled.

Abrasive is probably the wrong word... Caustic is probably better? Or how about just saying "the stuff is strong enough to melt plastic". And keep in mind, I don't use the stuff so that's all conjecture though it seems to be well founded. I still use Hoppes as well from time to time, it works but I hate oiling after I clean and balistol or any CLP makes it that much easier. Clean/oil in one step, apply a little grease where needed, wipe it down and I'm done.
