  1. I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
  2. I grew up wearing boot cut Wranglers until my physiological geography shifted in my 40s. I switched to Wrangler Carpenter jeans and pick up a pair whenever I catch a pair on a really good sale and add them to the stack. I have a garage / yard stack and a wear away from the house stack.
  3. Coffee cans, lots and lots of coffee cans.
  4. Done.
  5. If/when the paper dollar bill is only good for lighting a fire, ammunition will be worth its' weight in gold. It never hurts to have an emergency fund and ammo is far cheaper to acquire than gold right now.
  6. Decided to organize a few things to help in the event of my unexpected demise. Used a 3-ring binder with tabs to for insurances, accounts/passwords/contact numbers etc., SSI info, list of high value items the family might sell for a dollar at a yard sale if they didn't know better, locations of stuff no one knows about, and a Word Table inventory of all weapons with current values. Those with sentimental value are indicated in the event it matters. I included a short list of contacts that I trust to aid the family in marketing if needed. This is kept in the vault.
  7. There is an old saying, "A small price to pay for freedom"...somehow I don't think this is what it was originally referring to.
  8. Years ago I was with Morgan Stanley / Dean Witter. I was not pleased and moved to a broker with Edward Jones. In both cases it seemed they made more off of my money than I did. When "things were slow" they still got paid and things always seemed to be slow. I left the "professionals and have done far better on my own since.
  9. Welcome to the TGO Den of Thieves. It will be a rapidly growing membership through this standard when you consider the number of members who own "AR/AK etc. pistols" with brace who in some eyes circumvents the "fee". Mind you, I have no problem paying a fee to post an item for sale on any media/social media platform. I do have an issue paying a fee in order to have the ability to send emails that go unanswered or spend my money, especially when the platform does not hold the inventory. I pay my fees here at TGO as I do other places and try to follow TGO rules as agreed, to include not calling other members names or calling their integrity into question if I post a disagreement with their position. I respect that the duties of an Administrator requires much effort, time and yes expense in order to maintain a site to the high standard that TGO operates. The standard by which TGO generally operates is why it is the only firearms board I participate in.
  10. Ditto.
  11. I just purchased a Sig P229 Legion this weekend off of Armslist. The seller posted a phone number in the ad for text or call purposes. Had he not done that I would not have bought the weapon for I was not willing to pay a fee in order to use the "Contact Seller" Armslist contact method. Too many times I have had sellers simply not reply via this method of contact.
  12. I was a frequent flyer with CTD in the early years, 90's, but I have not and will not spend a penny with them due to the gouging.
  13. True. I have had screws and bolts come out when pre-drilling a hole with a counter-clockwise bit preparing for extractor use.
  14. I realize you have moved past the problem, but I just saw this and in reading the suggestions I did not see one that has proven useful for me in the past. Get a proper sized "left handed drill bit", not a joke, the drill bit cuts when turning counterclockwise as opposed to clockwise. When drilling the screw the friction heats the screw and I have had the screw come out while drilling. Just shared to add another option for future uh-ohs.
  15. Thanks, but we figured it was the least we could do considering how hard the old guy was trying to make ends meet and how committed he was to his "responsibilities". I still admire how concerned he was about the possibility of not meeting his responsibility to others rather than his personal loss. The lesson he taught us was far more valuable than the cost of a used engine.
  16. So many years back, one summer night about 0300 I was patrolling a roadside park on the outskirts of town that was known for elicit activities. My windows were down and I heard a car wound tight coming down the highway by the park headed towards town. I grabbed my handheld radar and caught his speed as he approached at 118mph in a 45 zone. The car went by and I pulled out to pursue yet waited to turn on blues or siren until I could get closer. He kept up his pace and I had to call on all that Plymouth would give me. As I got within about 200 yards of the speeder I hit my blues about the same time a large cloud of smoke came out of the speeding car. The car coasted to a stop on the shoulder of the road and I pulled in behind. As I approached the car I saw and smelled a large pool of oil flowing out from under the front of the vehicle. He had obviously grenaded his engine on his old Oldsmobile. I contacted the driver who was a polite elderly gent who was somewhat distraught. When I asked why he was doing 118 in a 45 he stated that "I'm on my way to Hardee's to make the biscuits. I overslept and if I don't get there nobody knows how to make the biscuits and there won't be no biscuits." I asked if the biscuits were worth the cost of his engine. He said, " I took this job to supplement my SSI and it looks like I failed on both counts". I asked what he meant by both counts and he said he failed at the job and supplementing his income. So, I did the only thing I could do, I gave him a ride to Hardees so he could make the biscuits, code 2.5 for effect. I called a wrecker to take his car to a shop of a friend of mine who after hearing the story agreed to replace the engine with a used one without labor cost and he and I shared the cost of replacement. That gentleman made the biscuits at Hardees for 6 more years before he passed unexpectedly.
  17. Glad you are back and well.
  18. At that price it would need to come with a V8 for me.
  19. The following opinion is expressed at the risk of stepping on tender toes, what the heck, I've always excelled at taking risks. Through my personal experience with both child and animal "adoption / rescue" services I have found that many if not most (not all) have become more interested in the money than benefit to person or animal. They speak the warm fuzzy obligatory feel good verbiage to support their money mission. The complexities and available money is a big reason, not the only one, why the foster/rescue systems are over run with children and animals simply needing a loving home. I know several people who have contacted area senior centers and put the word out that they have a home to offer the right pet. They were able to connect with a senior that was having difficulty caring for their pet and wanted to find them a home without contacting shelters or rescue services. This allowed for sit down discussions as to the personalities/needs of the animals and and gave both parties a level of comfort as to the future for the animal. Again, personal opinion, not argument bait.
  20. I am really sorry to hear this. I followed your posts about Darby and really enjoyed all the milestones as she trained you in her new home. I really hope you can arrange some agreement with family/friends and get another companion. There is one out there that needs a good home and I know you will provide it.
  21. What's sad is everybody is talking past tense about blowing s-it up with firecrackers. Guys, you ain't too old to have fun.
  22. I'm sure it is a far better machine than most you find today. I haven't been to/through Memphis in ten years or more. I don't expect I will be. I do appreciate the offer though.
  23. I have been watching TGO classifieds for the east end of the state ads trying to find something on my short list to no avail. I started hitting shops in a wide area over the last two weeks and today ran across a Springfield XD Mod 2 4" 9mm with an exceptional trigger on it. It came home with me. I was looking for a Sig P365XL and will continue to look for one at a decent price until one of those comes home with me. I did find that after groping many makes and models there were several that appealed to me and my short list grew longer. One thing I would like to mention is that yesterday I was in Knoxville Tactical. They had more inventory than most and which is part of why my list of wants expanded. Yet they did not have what I needed at this time. A young man in his mid 20s came in and wandered about for a bit and was approached by the store worker, another young man in his mid 20s who asked if he could help. The customer stuttered and stammered at length and the more he spoke the more obvious it was that he knew absolutely nothing about firearms. He openly stated that he was ignorant to firearms, never fired one, never owned one, and had always been anti gun. He stated that he had come to realize that it was time he acquired one and become educated as to safe operation. All of these statements were made in a stammered voice lacking confidence. I tip my hat to the employee who was very understanding and took all the time in the world to question as to intended use in order to provide some suggestions for consideration. I also listened as the employee stressed the importance of training and education being completed in preparation for ownership and offered means for such. The customer became much more comfortable and inquisitive. The young man was still in the store when I left and I feel confident that he was guided appropriately. Never once did the employee display an air of superior knowledge or speak down to the customer, it was more like a "welcome to the fold brother" encounter. This was only the third time I have been in that shop because it is quite a distance from my place. I will return though. I was impressed. So, if anyone on the east end of this great State needs to re-home a Sig P365XL I promise to feed it well.
  24. If you find out, let me know. My Delta variable speed exploded a drive gear 8 months ago and I have yet to find one to replace it. I gave up trying to find a decent bench top drill press for under $500 new. I have been trying to find something as yard or estate sales that was made in the 60s, 70s, or 80s that still has life in it. Everything out there that I can find new is china products, cheaply made and no parts support.
