  1. A few months ago I had a FEDEX delivery arrive. After the truck left I went outside and noticed something laying in my driveway half way to the street. It turned out to be a flat package with FEDEX labels but was not my address. I Googled the address which was about 9 miles down the valley. I went to the address and knocked on the door. A little old lady answered and I gave her the package. She said "Bless your heart, the FEDEX guy just left here but he couldn't find the package."
  2. Juries are unpredictable. This DA is a soup sandwich. Rittenhouse comes off as a touch of wannabe with good intentions and a boyish face. All of which could be well received if there is a mom or two on the jury. For the most part he answered well and avoided most of the trap questions, almost too well to the point of looking rehearsed. He got a little rattled on some pressure questions when he could have scored big and made the DA look even worse. This is expected though for his age and circumstance. It is not often that I root for the defense but this is one of those occasions. I was surprised how well he handled the situation that night. "If you have a case, argue the case. If you have no case, just argue." This usually applies to the defense but it seems to be the DA's approach on this one.
  3. This is a 1972 American Hat Company Larry Mahan series pencil roll Beaver felt grizzly. Larry Mahan was a multi-year world champion rodeo rider. This hat has been through a lot of really good times and bad while on my head over the years. The hat band is a girls macramé belt that I found in the bed of my F100 one morning after a particularly eventful night. I didn't know the girls, by name, so I couldn't return it. As a hat band it prompts fond memories. I found that the pencil roll tended to hold too much water so I cut it off after a few years and shaped the edge with steam and a spoon. The crown has been steamed and shaped in many forms over the years, this is current. Considering all the beer, blood (multi-species), sweat, brown liquor, pee (multi-species), gas, oil, etc. that this hat has been exposed to I don't know whether it is now considered an independent ecosystem or a bio-hazard. The silk liner gave it up many years ago as did the leather sweat band. I have other hats that are perhaps more socially acceptable but this is "The Grizz". I guess it is to me what a blanky is to a kid.
  4. Twenty-Five years in Law Enforcement (retired) then transitioned to another primary occupation that I plan to retire from in about three more years. I have had secondary ventures in auto restoration, construction, fabrication as intense hobbies.
  5. I have to agree with what has been said about the mals. High energy and high maintenance. I am very partial to Boxers, I have had them all my life. I have had and do have other breeds as well but Boxer are like family members and a huge source of entertainment by nature they are comical. Yet, they are protective of home and family by nature. Short haired, lay by the recliner but always ready to play ball. Great with kids, especially if they are around kids as pups or young. I could go on but like I said, I am partial.
  6. Years ago I got rid of an old foose (sp) ball table but I salvaged the chrome steel cross bars because I thought they might come in handy some day. Fast forward 10 years and I have used those rods for many things including putting under a 750lb. safe to move it upon delivery. I could move it any direction by myself, except up.
  7. Prayers to you and your family for strength, comfort and healing. My deepest condolences.
  8. Congratulations...I'm jealous.
  9. Your post and pictures were a big reason for my renewed interest in getting this done. I've gotten a lot of good info in response to my post and maybe I can get this ball rolling. Thanks
  10. Thanks to all for the info. Now if I can just come to an agreement with the wife on where to dig the hole... "just a little left...back to the right...towards me...let's look on the other side of the house".
  11. The price doesn't scare me off but I should have done this two years ago Yours looks great and American Made is a must for me considering what the pole is for. Did this come in sections ?
  12. Recent posts have rekindled my interest in setting a flag pole on my property. I have looked at a bunch on line but would like to hear from those that have already been down this path so that maybe I can do it right the first time. I would probably need a 25 footer since I have a 2-story house with a 12/12 pitch roof and plan to set it kind of near the house. I get a pretty good wind through my valley so it would need to be able to handle that. Any knowledge or experience shared would be much appreciated.
  13. It ain't all bad on the east end...there a 1973 Gibson Gospel in the corner of the study and a bottle of Blanton's single barrel on the roll top desk.
  14. My experience with Triple K has been only with the Cheyenne series which are good utilitarian holsters so I can't compare to the one you linked. Black Hills has more Buscadero (Drop) holsters in the Hollywood Rig category on their web site. I called Black Hills and talked directly to Rudy Lazano when I ordered mine and discussed sizing and options. I bought mine for CAS shooting but due to my work schedule I was only able to make matches for about 6 months. Now it hangs in my study. I have other buscadero holsters but prefer the ride height of the BHB rig. There are many really good holster manufacturers out there and El Paso is one of them as mentioned above. There is a CAS shooter called "Curly Bill" who shoots with the Oak Ridge Outlaws who makes some really nice stuff. If you want to deal with an independent custom craftsman I can rustle up his real name or you might find it on their website.
  15. I have the Black Hills Bandito rig https://www.blackhillsleather.com/shop/western-rigs-leather/western-rigs/bhb-the-black-hills-bandito-rig/ in the dark chestnut with silver buckle and belt tip with .38/.357 cartridge loops. It appears to have gone up since I bought mine. It is a very high quality rig and I am pleased with it. I also have some Triple K that do just fine for knock about stuff.
  16. OK....that got real weird real fast But welcome aboard and at least you know what you just got into. That was a "class act" Red, I tip my hat to you sir.
  17. I used 5 motion activated driveway sensors programmed to one receiver. They are placed in select locations around the property with different alert tones so I know which way to look. Critters don't really cause any problems with false alerts. They have been very effective.
  18. I'm in the same boat...I've been "Social Distancing" long before it was ever a thing.
  19. I wish I could post pictures but I had two (Twins) Browning Hi-Power Practicals. One in 9mm and one in .40. They were beautiful weapons and functioned without fail. I sold them a few years back simply because the brunt of my training was with da/sa design weapons and I was more comfortable with that format. I wish I had kept them though.
  20. I was thinking about getting a Heritage but opted for the EAA Bounty Hunter with the extra .22 mag cylinder. It was similar in size to my .357 single actions and would readily fit my holsters. I have been very pleased with it so far. I may get a Wrangler, just because.
  21. I have a fund raising letter from the TSA laying on the table just waiting for me to send a check. Considering the fact I am a retired LEO I was planning on doing so. This just saved me some money. I will do something direct to benefit my locals. Through my career I found that the higher one is in the command chain of Law Enforcement, the more they tend to follow the direction of the political winds. I would venture to say that a large number, if not the majority, of the sheriffs do not personally support this position. Especially if they came up through the ranks. However, the those making money sitting in the offices of the TSA rubbing elbows with politicians tend to get dirty elbows.
  22. I may have dodged the bullet here. I just bought tires a couple months ago and it was a toss up between the Cooper ATs and Falken Wild Peaks. I went with the Falkens and have been very pleased...more so now.
  23. I have two dual fuel 5500 generators. I have never put gas in either of them. I have only used propane to avoid gumming up the fuel lines, but I do have the gas option. I wired my breaker panel with an interlock for separation from the system. I Have and outside plug on a covered porch to plug the generator supply into which, after separation from the standard utilities supply, I can power my existing breaker panel and direct power supply via the breakers. I have a chart posted for which breakers to have on and which to have off when on generator. I have gas heat, stove and water heater. It has served me well and 5500 is sufficient to power everything we need except the A/C. I don't care about the A/C, All it has to do for the heat is the furnace fan which is no problem. It has worked very well. I don't recommend using a microwave though.
  24. Someone with more knowledge than I may give better, more accurate, info. Many reasonably modern heat pumps will automatically switch to supplement with electric heat strips "emergency heat" if the temps drop below a certain point. You can manually switch most thermostats to electric heat strip "emergency heat" if your compressor fails, or your heat pump just cannot keep you warm etc. Just bear in mind that the heat strips cause your electric meter to spin like a gas pump dial during the Obama era. When I had a heat pump I never really "felt" warm yet the house was ok. I have had gas heat for the last 20 years and won't go back unless I am forced to.
