$350? SW shield Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only issue you would have is if you just so happen to take wider photos. If you buy it and find it doesn't work for you, return it, sell it, or keep it and buy a wider lens as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sell a Glock? I showed you where you could get a used 18-55 for under $70 in very good condition. Personally, were I you I'd buy that 50mm lens. When I had my T3i (a cropped sensor camera) I had the 50mm 1.4 and at one time the 50mm 1.8 II and hardly ever touched the "kit lens". The 18-55 is a zoom lens, that means you can change the focal length. The 50mm 1.8 STM is a prime lens, that means the focal length stays the same. The 18-55 costs more new than the 50mm STM because it has a bunch more complexities and moving parts. Just because the 50mm STM is 1/2 of the cost of the kit lens does not make it inferior. The glass is much better and faster. You will gain 3.5 full stops (meaning that at 1.8 you will let much, much, much more light into the sensor. That means you can shoot inside without a flash and still take good photos. All I can say is please do not pay full price for the kit lens, if I have to I will contact some of my photographer friends and see if any of them they'd get rid of cheaply.

If you decide you'd rather stick with what you know, there is always this: http://amzn.to/1Noe9Ow Looks like for $60 to $70 you can replace that lens. I doubt the one you have is the IS (Image Stabilization) version, so it is technically an upgrade although many people would argue you probably do not need IS on a shorter focal length lens; It would be there to turn on if you decide you want it. Personally I would not pay "full price" for a kit lens though. That lens shows up as $199 NIB. For about $200 or so more you could upgrade to a much newer body, kit lens included, and either sell or keep the older XS body that you have. T5 with 18-55 lens: http://amzn.to/1MmES0Z $399

Well, set the 18-55mm on about 50mm and that will be the same image you see more or less. The one I linked to is a 50mm prime. Prime means that the focal length does not change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And...also...if you dont' mind a bit of adventure (at this point I don't see why you wouldn't), sometimes you can find guides on the internet pertaining to specific issues with specific lenses. You might could fix it yourself. Or you could sell it for a few bucks on Ebay/Craigslist to someone who could fix it or doesn't mind a manual focus lens. The one thing I wouldn't do is spend money to get it fixed. Those lenses are very common, a dime a dozen you'd say, and it'd be much easier and cheaper probably to just find someone that has one that they don't want. Or "upgrade" to a bit higher glass, such as the one I linked to above.
-
No problem. Tha'ts good news and also bad news I guess. The 75-300 will be a bit tight for shooting tonight for you, but you can hold onto the XS for a bit longer if you so desire. Seeing as how the XS has a 1.6x crop factor, a 50mm lens on your camera will "act" as about an 80mm on a full-frame (35mm sensor/film). Now, it isn't what you want for large group shots or anything, but I would suggest perhaps this: http://amzn.to/1MitVfk That's the newest "Nifty Fifty" that Canon makes. It has STM, which is primarily a bonus when shooting video, but it's a great lens. It is very sharp, it focuses closer compared to the older one, and has full-time manual focus override. I sold my 50mm 1.4 and replaced it with the 50mm 1.8 STM:) I say to do this because the 85mm is a great, great portrait lens. But on a 1.6 crop body it will be about a 136 focal length equivalent, which is fine for potraits but not so much inside. In my opinion, everyone should own that lens simply for the fact that it is such a huge upgrade from the "kit lens" that so many cameras come with. EDIT: And if you just liked the focal length coverage of the kit lens, they can be found for very cheap on Ebay/Craigslist used.
-
Well, it could be different things. Is it a Nikon or Canon (or else)? I believe that Canon lenses have the autofocus motor built into the lenses. I believe Nikons are built into the body. If you can, try the following: A different lens on your camera body The same lens on a different but like camera body (for example, Canon EF lenses are compatible with basically any Canon EOS camera, ever) Then you can determine whether it is the body or lens that is acting up. What lens and what body are you experincing this with?

I don't think the "Tremor" that the OP was talking about was an earthquake:) http://amzn.to/1P3rnAM Please, for either $6.96 for DVD or $19.65 for Blu-Ray for ALL FOUR MOVIES, everyone buy those if you haven't already seen them. They are hilariously corny, but genuinely good movies. Plus they have one of the greatest characters of all time, Burt Gummer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcsLaSBWG9k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ew_jfj9798

Buyer got his money and I never saw the lens again. I'm assuming that it was either delivered or lost or stolen by customs somewhere. Long gone, all dealt with, I chalked it up to a reasonable loss of doing business (especially overseas). Only problem I have ever had on Ebay.

Yep. All Cleveland Utilities electric customers (unless opted out) have an electric smart meter. They are in the process of replacing 15,000 of roughly 30,000 water meters currently. They essentially connect to the electric meter and pass the reading along. They send along a reading every few hours or even longer. Who here has a cell phone in their pocket, router at home, 10 Wi-Fi devices, and more? More than that, even if you tried to "go clean" what about all the radio waves bouncing around outside of your control. Now, smart meters could theoretically pose privacy issues. Example: if hacked, it could be determined at exactly what time each day someone takes a shower or something. I guess you would also have to worry about trusting all the utility employees that have access to it. My opinion: Find something bigger and badder to worry about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A little? Pretty happy right now! I am thinking Land Rover. Seriously. I really don't know much about them but you can get used ones for about $20,000 give or take $5,000 depending on what you get. Going to do serious research but look at this and let me know what you think. http://www.landroverchattanooga.com/used/Land+Rover/2011-Land+Rover-LR2-83e8a4ce0a0a00e05e818bea16abf8ad.htm I again don't know much about them really other than they are generally really expensive and are supposed to be really great. I figure a 60k mileage Land Rover should be at least as reliable as my 50k mileage Ford. Now, if I find a model I like I can search for used ones all over the area and hopefully find the right price and features. Now, it seems the two used ones I have found so far have been commercial vehicles. Could mean good service history but also could mean driven like it was stolen every single mile. Land Rover thoughts! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

*Sigh* 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Consideration

Too good to be true, probably is. But, I was open to the possibility that maybe they were hoping to move 15 stock getting room for 16 stock and were discounting them an extra $4,000 or so. This is technically true, but the $4,000 just takes the place of the existing $3,500 in rebates. I might have technically saved $500 today, but I doubt they would have came to a "better deal" today than they would have anyway last week. Well, I have always in a sense immortalized Jeep. I guess for multiple reasons. The old inline 6's seemed to be great, and they just were made better. That being said, going bankrupt, taking bailout money, and then being bought out by Fiat hasn't done the Jeep name any favors. This experience (reading about people's Cherokee's needing a new transmission 12 hours after purchase, this happened to a co-worker's daughter just a week or so ago) may be enough to convince me to avoid Jeep at least for the foreseeable future. Maybe the Explorer, decently ok fan of Ford myself. My Fusion (2012) has about 52,000 miles on it and hasn't shown the first problem. Just sort of tired of the car idea and like the idea of getting back into an SUV. The 4 Runners are nice but most of what I have seen the new ones to be are that they are too "fancy". That being said, I'll look into them further as I have read them to be one of the best reliable SUV's. Yep, I honestly cannot say I have experienced yet a single "auto person" that I have felt that I could trust. I guess the exception to that would probably be the mechanic we've been using a bit, but mostly just to buy farm fresh eggs sometimes because they own a farm:) They (husband and wife owned business) seem to be great. Car salesman, especially the managers, all seem to crawl around like snakes when they think nobody is looking. Sorry if that insults a car salesman here, but my experience has been that everyone of them has tried to slip something by me that they didn't think I would notice. I do sort of want to go back just to know what a base model gets me. Some of the extras are nice, but I consider myself decently frugal on "upgrades" and things like navigation, voice control, etc are all just more crap a lot of the time. That being said, I honestly do value keyless entry/ignition and remote start, but those serve actual purposes in my mind even if that purpose is fulfilling a sense of laziness. Pretty set on not buying anything this weekend. If I do decide to buy something in particular, thinking about maybe talking to the credit union, getting "approved" for $30,000 but probably plan on spending less. After I find something I like, try and sell my Fusion private party to someone on here or the like and then buying outright at the dealership, financing the difference at the CU. So I'll probably go check it out for 15, say thanks for time but tell them it is Friday night and I have a really beautiful Wife to go home to and I'm not wasting anymore time there. I bet if I do that they call me Saturday saying they can come down another $500 or $1000 on that Trailhawk (or of course padding the trade in the equivalent). I basically view buying a car like a game. You cannot really win, but you can get further than others. If you don't buy at all it is like getting your fifty cents back so that you can try again. I'm not afraid of insulting them, because they don't care once bit at all ever to insult the hell out of you. All things I heard tonight: "Guess that is just too much Jeep for you huh?" Me: Oh yeah, I really don't think I could handle that much. "For that deal to happen, it would take magic" Me,later: Well, it would take magic for us to make a deal tonight. "How is that 4x4 working on your Ford Fusion" Me: Oh, it works great, I get 40 on the highway! I don't see people's hangup about lowballing them. My supervisor told me that I'd be foolish to offer as low as trade + $15,000 and said they might laugh at me. I told him that if they laughed at me to my face I'd tell them that isn't a really good way to sell a car and walk away. I sure as hell told them I was around the $15,000 + trade range, knowing that they closest they might theoretically come best case scenario would be $20,000 + trade. Seeing as how they will take you for every penny possible I don't care to do that. -

Hahaha. Really so relieved to be truthful. Spent 1.5 hours at dealership earlier. Turns out that the "deal" offer of $14,000 trade in ($4,000 extra) means that they work from the sticker price without rebates. Too good to be true, probably is. http://www.crownchryslerdodgejeep.com/new/Jeep/2015-Jeep-Cherokee-d1c0f4370a0a00e07c09a670f99441d6.htm That is the exact vehicle. I was thinking about $32,000-$14,000 = $18,000 range. Now, there initial offer was trade + $27,000 OTD. Told them that we were so far off that I didn't want to waste their time. Told them I was in the trade + $15,000 range. I was told that would take "magic". Wasted 1.5 hours of their time (or is that them wasting 1.5 hours of mine?). They eventually came down to $25,000 + trade OTD. Honestly glad, although it is a GREAT looking vehicle inside and out, the transmission reports had me questioning everything. Relived because that means the "magical $4,000 extra" offer in the mail means absolutely nothing at all, and I am free of course to take as much time in the world researching makes, models, and dealerships. Will be taking recommendations and comparing all used and new SUV's. Don't even know I"ll do anything, but it would be fun to. Those guys thought they had me. Not saying that is a bad deal, but just more than I was willing to do. They convinced me to let them bring a base model Cherokee without all the extras but still has 4 x 4 in tomorrow. Told them if they did that I would test drive it. Would be a beat cheaper but I still don't think I'll even consider any offer unless they really hit me hard with a tempting good deal. -

So, lets get this thread some replies. for a 4x4 SUV with great reliability and decent but not over the top amenities, what are my best options to compare to the Trailhawk? -

Thanks. How many miles? Well, I am going to make sure that I get a decent price going to negotiate hard since I don't even need a new vehicle, just want. But I assume this time of year coupled with such a sale probably means trying to get rid of old stock. Maybe I'm wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

So, wow. http://www.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/Cherokee/2015/transmission/transmission_failure_check_engine_light_on.shtml http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResults?prodType=V&searchType=PROD&targetCategory=A&searchCriteria.model=CHEROKEE&stats=1977408%2C2%2C1%2C146%2C9%2CCHEROKEE&makeStats=&jsonBaseURL=%2Fdownloads%2Ffolders%2F&searchCriteria.model_yr=2015&searchCriteria.make=JEEP&searchCriteria.prod_ids=1977408 Looks like it probably does suffer from transmission problems. Sucks because I do really want for it to be reliable. Just don't want something that will cause problems. Will continue to do more research. Looks like it is something they have been trying to fix, but "trying" seems to be the important part. I personally am not convinced nor knowledgable enough to have confidence in or knowledge to know mores about what the issue truly is in the design. Software programming or hardware failure? Both? -

Well, I do love it but it depends on OTD price and reliability. Reliability is really a hard one seeing as how it is a newer "fresh" model. I have spent 30 minutes reading and it seems like half of the reviews are about people complaining about transmission problems at extremely low mileage. Love the look, love the ride and amenities, but not looking for something that has faulty design.
