Question about out of state visitors?
GlockSpock replied to Grayfox54's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Exactly as @DaveTN states. Which is why if Tennessee were to ever surprise us and gain constitutional carry, I'd personally prefer that alongside it there was some permitting process to keep reciprocity with other states. I personally think it'd suck to gain constitutional carry but lose all of your reciprocity. But...seeing how legislation in Tennessee has been, I'll roll over in my grave (because I'll have been dead a long time) if they ever pass constitutional carry. -
@DaveTN Sidenote: Do I think a few of the participants likely took things too far? Yes, I'll agree with that. I would take things too far...so I understand where they are coming from.
-
I would think...surely...that a Sheriff's Department would cover their bases legally regarding this. I think 100% (just my guess) that a bunch of liberal leaning teachers figured if they just cooperated then they wouldn't be shot. Some pro-gun participants figured they'd try to instill in these people a "lesson" and figured they'd have some fun doing so. I found this quote on another article, I don't know how valid it is: “They told us, ‘This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing,” one teacher who participated in the drill and who asked not to be identified, told the Indy Star.
-
Ah yes, I read two articles about it this morning, the winy teachers who got shot. With that being said, at first I thought it was something like airsoft. I now think it was basically simulations...which is supposed to hurt more than airsoft. It seems that the "shooters" in this case likely would agree with many of us here. I would love to be a participant in one of these training scenarios...assuming all bets of cooperation are off. No matter how much it'd hurt getting shot by simulations...I think it would be an entirely thrilling experience.

Yeah, that basically means the product is worth x and the military can buy quantity y. X is fixed at a certain price not dependent on y.

Could just buy a...Glock.

Shall I assume this is it? http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB1264&GA=111 Summary: This bill renames the handgun carry permit that is available under present law as the "enhanced handgun carry permit" and creates a new "concealed handgun carry permit". The significant differences between an enhanced handgun carry permit and a concealed handgun carry permit are as follows: (1) An enhanced handgun carry permit does not specify the manner in which a handgun must be carried. A concealed handgun carry permit will only authorize the holder to carry in a concealed manner; (2) An applicant for an enhanced handgun carry permit must submit fingerprints, which are used by the TBI and FBI for criminal history background checks. An applicant for a concealed handgun carry permit will only be required to undergo a name-based criminal history record check; (3) An applicant for an enhanced handgun carry permit must present a photo identification. An applicant for a concealed handgun carry permit may present either a photo identification or other proof satisfactory to the department of safety showing the person's identity and residency; (4) An enhanced handgun carry permit must be issued on a wallet-sized laminated card and include, among other things, a color photograph of the permit holder. A concealed handgun carry permit may be issued as a letter to the applicant and may be issued without the applicant's photograph; (5) Subject to certain exceptions for persons who obtain firearm training through the military, a police academy, or armed guard instruction courses, an applicant for an enhanced handgun carry permit must submit proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course within one year of the date of application. Instead of completing a department approved handgun safety course, an applicant for a concealed handgun carry permit will be required to demonstrate competence with a handgun, which may be accomplished by various forms of experience, including, but not limited to, completion of a hunter safety course, completion of a firearm safety course using instructors certified by the NRA or department of safety, military service, prior issuance of a carry permit, law enforcement or security training, or any other firearm training that the department of safety deems adequate; (6) The application fee for an enhanced handgun carry permit is $100. There will not be an application fee for a concealed handgun carry permit; (7) An enhanced handgun carry permit is valid for eight years. A concealed handgun carry permit will be valid for five years; (8) An enhanced handgun carry permit holder who is within or on a public park, natural area, historic park, nature trail, campground, forest, greenway, waterway, or other similar public place is generally exempt from the present law prohibition against carrying weapons on any property owned, operated, or while in use by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. Such exemption will not apply to concealed handgun carry permit holders; and (9) A local government may not prohibit an enhanced handgun carry permit holder from possessing a handgun on public property unless the local government provides a security system consisting of metal detectors and inspection by trained personnel for such property. A local government will not be required to provide metal detectors and security inspections in order to prohibit concealed handgun carry permit holders from possessing firearms on public property. So...if I'm interpreting this correctly: Concealed Handgun Carry Permit Free Must be concealed No fingerprints, only standard background check Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit Open or concealed $100 Application Overrides/nullifies laws against carrying schools, colleges, parks, etc (listed above in bold) Interesting. Removes a financial burden for many, but theoretically expands places the "enhanced" can carry. It's a step (positive) in my opinion, but creating two different "classes" of constitutional rights is...confusing at best and discriminatory at worst. I'd be supportive of this law as it'd benefit me.

Ok...I kid I kid.

That is, for the most part, like asking a cremator (someone who cremates bodies) if they'd murder their neighbor for the right price. Destroying these guns was legal. These guns were either confiscated or exchanged in one of the "buy-backs". Confiscating your neighbor's gun if asked, for the right price, encroaches upon their rights. Cremating bodies is legal. Murdering your neighbor is not. It also encroaches upon their rights.

Ah, of course. So, generally speaking, newer, faster, and fancier missiles do nothing to affect the concept of MAD.
-
I'll admit I'm not an authoritative source on the issue, but theoretically does the concept of hypersonic missiles change the concept of MAD? If you could hit hard enough and fast enough, the destruction may be mostly one sided. However, "hard enough and fast enough" is a gamble no sane person would make.

A coworker was mentioning this to me the other day, about a week ago. I do think this will very nearly if not completely cause Benchmade to go kaput. However, I do have two thoughts that I'm trying to wrap my head around: As a private company, as local PD approaches you and offers you money to destroy firearms. If you don't accept, someone else will. Perhaps it is $5,000 to $10,000 pure net profit, minus electricity and wear and tear on equipment. In a way, wouldn't you be crazy not to? The mistake was the Social Media posting that alienated 90% or more of their customer base. (Sidenote: I have no idea if Benchmade was paid to do this "service", but I am assuming that they were). Regarding the political donations, could they be construed as attempting to buy support from politicians? You always hear about lobbyists and people trying to "buy politicians", is that what this could be construed as or have they (Benchmade) just been exposed at overall being a very left leaning company?

If properly secured (bag, case, etc), guns are essentially immune to mileage. It doesn't matter if you let it sit in your vehicle for one mile or one million miles, it's basically going to be ok. Round count is what matters to guns.

To me...they don't register as hot. At all. Tabasco can be mild/medium by my taste...sorta depends on the batch and age.

Resurrecting this old thread. @173rdABN I remember that there was a photographer there, but I don't think I ever saw any of the photos. And directions on a gallery or contact details for the photographer?

You're in Athens, do you all have one or are you talking about the Cleveland store? I haven't checked for it in Cleveland myself, I found it by accident in the Ooltewah location.
