  1. Looks like this bill is #1 on tonight's schedule for the committee.   http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/Calendar/CalendarOrders.aspx?CalendarID=191
  2. Just in case any of you have not seen this yet:   http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinHumor.htm
  3. In Comp I I wrote my research paper on assault rifles and whether the public should be allowed to own them. My professor graded it and I received a decent grade. However, she left a comment very similar to this on it, "You make some very good points here. However, the question is whether or not the founding fathers foresaw guns advancing to the level that they have now,". I left it at that and didn't contest anything. I figured she was more than set in her ways, and I mine. I wish I could find that research paper...
  4.   Carry gun #2? That's a walk in the park compared to carry gun #1!
  5.   And not just any pickles, but tiny pickles...
  6. VOW does primarily AR and AK builds. Give them a call and see!   http://www.vowguns.com
  7. Volunteer Ordnance does good work. They'll charge you $30 for sight installation. However, they have probably a 1 or 2 week (at minimum) wait list, and your gun "has" to be sitting on the shelf for them during that time.   JFM is able to get it back to you same day, and only charges $20.  John Miller 423-790-7077 As far as I can tell he does equally good work, and will be much more likely to do a slight adjustment for you if you feel it is needed.
  8. Right now they are working on SB 0222. Two more things to go over after this, and then the knife bill. I doubt I"ll stick around for the possible hours needed until they get to it, but anticipating seeing what the outcome is. EDIT: Live feed: http://tnga.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=9&event_id=126
  9.   That's the one for sure.
  10. We talked about this in criminal justice in high school. The fleeing felon rule, in essence, says that LEO's can shoot a fleeing felon if they believe he is an immediate harm to someone else. In a conversation with a professor at UTC (who is also an assistant DA for Chattanooga), I asked him about the fleeing felon rule and whether something applied to non LEO civilians. He had never heard of the rule.    I have in my head a picture of a large male running away from you at night because you ran him off your property with your AR-15. He has a semi-automatic handgun in his hand, and is running towards your neighbors house up the road.   He has his back to you and is running away. But you feel that he is a danger to the single mother who has two kids. What do you do?
  11. Ever since I received my permit and started carrying, I've had a recurring theme for dreams. Ever week or so I will have a dream in which I have to use my firearm to defend myself or others. Except, whenever it is time to fire I squeeze the trigger and the gun will not fire. It seems I have trouble pulling the trigger hard enough, and it will not fire. The best way for me to describe the dream is that the firearm has a long, heavy DAO trigger pull that I cannot seem to pull far enough. The circumstances change, but I always have trouble with the 100lb trigger. I just keep trying and trying to squeeze off a shot, and it doesn't work. Last night it was in the Walgreens parking lot when I confronted a man who had kidnapped some kids and had them locked in his truck.   Anyone else have some sort of recurring gun related dream?
  12. Hopefully we will see something somewhat soon as to whether this bill stands a chance of passing.
  13. http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/schedule/default.aspx?type=senate   Judiciary Committee is on schedule for 4:00 PM Nashville time (5:00 PM Eastern).    Here is what is on their list of things to do today:   http://www.capitol.tn.gov/bills/108/scheduledocs/538a3074-dc9c-4843-b8ea-7d9ac41b23cc.pdf

  15. I will also add this: The left is constantly attacking the 2nd. We are almost always on the defensive. What is that quote about what makes the best defense? The moment we start actually trying to repeal some bad laws step by step is a very good moment. Most the time most people just complain about the way things are instead of trying to change them.
  16. There are more Tennesseans than there are elected Tennesseans. If everyone organises and supports such a measure, it could happen. Same thing happened with the Alcohol Bill. I will reply to him later today. I have never went to a school for any reason in Alabama, but did read about carrying at one. Note that there doesn't seem to be weekly mass shootings at school in Alabama like some people would leave you to believe such a policy would create. .
  17. First let me state that I feel it is a long shot for this to take place in TN. Yet, I feel that it wouldn't hurt trying. Earlier today I wrote my senator the following email:     He responded with this:     I did not realize that in Tennessee we had bill filling deadlines. I suppose that the next session begins next year? If so, perhaps we should take the time to organize and educate?
  18. Exactly. Just because something a business does is unethical does not mean it should be illegal.
  19.   It wouldn't be illegal to keep a firearm in your vehicle when parked in parking garages and parking lots, whereas now some lots are legally posted. Perhaps someday the same can be done for places of business, in a sense adopting the Alabama style law that basically says you can put up "No Guns" signs all you want, but it won't be illegal for people to ignore it. What it will be illegal for is if someone does carry onto your property and you ask them to leave and they don't leave. That's a trespassing issue.
  20.   I'll bump up your 2nd Amendment rights if you don't mind restricting 1st Amendment rights in order to prevent CC vs OC debates;)
  21. At first I fell into the mindset that this bill is worthless. Then I thought it through and I actually support it as is. Why? Two reasons:   1) This legally protects you parking in parking lots owned by private individuals. I've seen some parking garages legally posted. Although it's a shot in the dark, someone could legally be prosecuted for driving, parking, and then leaving their firearm in their car in one of these garages. My understanding is that this bill would make it legal to do so universally.   2) This is America. I believe that a private individual has the right to hire and fire for whatever reason they want. Are you a Tennessee Vols fan? Then you should be able to hire someone just because they are too. Did you hire someone and find that they are a Florida Gators fan? You should be able to fire them for no other reason than if you want to. If an employer wants to say "I want everyone here to drive a Ford or else you are fired because I want to be able to advertise that everyone I employ drives a Ford.", they should be able to do that. Why? Because it is their money. They earned the money. They choose who they give that money to in exchange for services. A prime example of this is that supposedly Coca Cola Bottling employees will be fired if they are caught drinking Pepsi branded drinks in public. Soda racism? You bet.   This bill is good because legally speaking, anyone will be able to keep a gun in their car at work. However, if an employer feels that their employees should not have firearms in their vehicles and an employee does anyway, then the employer should have a choice to say "I am not paying you anymore for your services here, end of story".    It's hairy because finding the meeting point between personal property and private business. Personally, I would like to see 2nd Amendment rights trump slightly over private business rights, but this bill is a step in the right direction. There are already "protections" regarding sex, age, race, etc. An employer cannot legally say "Take off your shirt or I'll fire you". That's a big no no. So there is obviously some exceptions as to what exactly an employer can and cannot require, and for what exactly an employer can and cannot fire you. What needs to happen, where applicable, is that mindsets change in companies. In my mind, it's a private issue, not a government issue. The mindsets of those that hire need to be educated regarding firearms.    Although I respect the work that LEO's do, I'll say this. Even though there are many, many, many cases of LEO's making poor decisions or even evil decisions and abusing their carrying of a firearm, you don't see businesses banding together and attempting to prohibit LEO's from carrying a weapon onto their premises. There is a sense of "faith" that LEO's are 100% accountable with firearms. The is a lack of "faith" that HCP's are 100% accountable with firearms. The truth is that LEO's are somewhere less than 100% accountable with firearms, and HCP's are somewhere over 0% accountable with firearms. In truth I would say that the "accountability" of the use and carry of firearms in dealing with LEO's and HCP's is probably very, very close. What needs to be done in this society is increase the amount of "faith" that employers have regarding the accountability of those with HCP's, and then "Parking Lot Bills" that protect employees from termination will not be needed.
  22. Just as a heads up, the Senate bill is on schedule for the Judiciary Committee on 2/19. House bill has been assigned to Criminal Justice Committee.
  23. Maybe he was using one of those cheap Chinese red dots and it broke. Didn't buy a BUIS when he had the chance and is now doing the best he can!
  24. I really do wish that manufacturers and wholesalers would "band together" and all do this. Instead what I fear will happen is some will do it, and then Company X will say "Let's increase our market share by advertising in these states!".
