  1.   Thanks! I almost got into it nearly a year ago but never made any purchases. I've known sort of what I've wanted for a while but I'm just now getting into it. Perhaps someday I will be interested in a progressive, but right now I am simply interested in simplicity and quality/accuracy. In my initial starting, I plan on weighing each charge as I load it and then weighing each loaded round after being assembled. I know that ultimately there will be some minor variance that you have to live with but I just want assurance that I didn't either miss a load or double up a load or something like that.   I'm probably more interested in reloading 9mm right now that rifle cartridges because, in my humble opinion, pistol rounds seem easier than rifle rounds. Perhaps that isn't the case but it seems you have to worry more about trimming and the like with rifle rounds. Thus, right now I haven't even researched trimming methods at all. Tomorrow I might go to Harbor Freight and pickup that tumbler. Can someone post a picture of the lizard bedding stuff that everyone seems to enjoy?
  2. [quote name="gregintenn" post="1114681" timestamp="1393021335"]I've had a Frankford Arsenal tumbler for many years, and it still works just as it did when new. Corncob pet bedding media with a squirt of Nu Finish car polish is an inexpensive alternative to gun brass specific media. It is larger, however, and tends to get lodged in bottleneck rifle brass. It works well with pistol brass. With the tumbler, you'll also want to get a sifter/bucket combo to separate the brass and media after cleaning. You might devise some other way to do it, but you'll need something. Now that I think of it, I don't believe case lube has been mentioned. You'll need it for the rifle brass, but if you get carbide pistol dies, it won't be necessary for them. I would have purchased that one except it is aluminum instead of iron. I have heard of the pet bedding...will try it. Guess I will probably go with the FA tumbler. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Unfortunately he'll be out and about in another few months after his arrest just like he is now from his August 2013 arrest.
  4.   I was thinking of the robot from the original Lost in Space.     Why stop there? Lets get it a little larger and it will shield a large percentage of our body from incoming rounds!
  5.   So I may and I may not. I probably will, but I just "first" wanted to see how to prime with the press. Right now I'm looking at tumblers. Soaking them in Lemishine does work, but I want them to be shiny. Right now I like the looks of this:   Frankford Arsenal   However, everyone on here always talks about the Harbor Freight Tumbler. With a coupon, the price is pretty much negligible between the two.   Thoughts on tumblers?
  6.   Thanks! Yes, I certainly wish I could have gotten setup at the end of Fall 2013, but other financial priorities came up. I also don't think I have shot since Summer 2013, so I decided to get reloading stuff now so that I can shoot this summer and not feel too guilty about it. I've been piling as much as I can into savings for a house, and the extra 250 to 500 rounds a month I would like to shoot just hasn't happened yet. Once I get setup, it can!   I think I will go with the 4 die set. I've read that it is often easier for beginners to go this route.   Thanks for the input on the lock rings.   At this point, I am thinking that I will probably put on hold the Hornady LNL Conversion bushingsas well as quite probably the hand primer. I'd like to get a feel for reloading "the classic way" without all these little shortcut tools that we have now. Then a month or two later, I'll "upgrade" to the Hornady Conversion and the Hand Primer.   All of this stuff about reloading has really made me want a Ruger GP100 and a .308 bolt gun.
  7. In terms of pure technological software. I don't have any experience running forums, but I have set one up before. You could setup a "LAMP" server for free. Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP You can do this with Ubuntu Server pretty easily. I think you could start and have a lamp server in less than 30 minutes if not 20. http://www.ubuntu.com/server As far as the forum software: https://www.phpbb.com http://www.phorum.org/ http://vanillaforums.org/ It'd take a few hours reading and tweaking, but I'd say you could have a forum running from your house in about 2-4 hours if you went at it. But then you'd spend much more than that customizing it all. Unless you wanted to, you could technically get by without spending a single $ on software. You have the hardware, your only fixed cost would be ISP. You could cheat and use something like dyDNS, but you are correct that the right way to do it would be to pay for a business account.
  8. Actually, turns out Lee does include lock rings. Why do you say it will not be that simple if I choose Lee?
  9. Two more questions: I notice that the Lee dies allow you to pour in your powder from the top of the die during the expanding process. Is that fully trusted compared to pouring it directly into the case itself? Are things such as under/over charges possible due to that method due to the powder getting stuck in the die instead of fully reaching the case? Dies. Someone above me mentioned locking rings on dies. Not all dies come with those, and with a breech lock system, I don't think you even necessarily would benefit from them. I kind of like the idea of the Lee 4 Die Carbide set for 9mm. I like the idea of the 4 Die set because it gives you more flexibility in the "factory crimp". Three vs. four dies, manufacturers, give me the scoop.
  10.   And.....that would be why you are known as "BrokeEnthusiast".
  11.   https://www.youtube.com/user/Texas4opencarry?feature=watch   Why does it not surprise me that this guy goes around filming himself open carrying?
  12.     Generally, I won't have to worry about trimming 9mm will I but moreso for 5.56mm?
  13. Should have known it was a bad idea, but I guarantee I will regain respect after this followup idea!   A few weeks ago I saw this:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kZGTOLBvek   Perhaps we could take this design, modify it so that it works with any standard belt (or optionally MOLLE webbing with an added accessory), and then whenever you draw your weapon from your holster, it automatically deploys your sash across your torso!   Foolproof!   Version 2.0 could also auto-deploy anytime it detects that shots are fired.   Version 3.0 could auto-integrate with the new smart-guns that are going to be introduced.   Something tells me we won't make it to Version 4.0.
  14.   Sold. Swapped that up on the list and added the Hornady Conversion.
  15. I just had this great idea. Shouldn't we have a special TGO HCP badge made so that we can all identify ourselves to each other whenever we get into firefights?   Not only will it identify that we are the good guys, but it will also identify that we are on the same team.                                                                                         Team TGO!
  16.   So you are suggesting to go with the Lee Classic turret for under $100, get the "conversion" by Hornady, and then buy Hornady bushings? Hornady bushings are seemingly quite a bit cheaper. Any other specific reasons you like them?
  17.   And I (mostly) took that list and turned it into an Amazon wish list! Something I am trying to figure out though. In that list you mentioned "Hornady Lock-N-Load Press and Die Conversion Bushing Kit". Do I need that if I go with the Classic Breech? I understand that it's for converting non "breech" into "breechlike".
  18.   I'm not necessarily about quantity but quality. A single stage is what I want to start with and will always be able to use it for something. I'm just getting into reloading so I don't feel guilty about shooting. I might reload 25 or 50 rounds an evening every night of the week. Every two weeks I might go shooting. That way I can shoot 500 rounds a month and not feel bad about spending hundreds of bucks doing so. Unfortunately, right now I'm shooting about 0 rounds a month.   a loading block so you don't spill the cases with power in them. Case lube for rifle brass sizing. Been recommended to try lanolin oil dissolved into Isopropyl alcohol. Case lube is cheap though, so why not? Die's for each of the cals you want to reload. Lee vs. RCBS. I'm thinking Lee but would like both sides. A 6" harbor freight digitial electronic caliper. $9.50 when not on sale. $9.50 is cheaper than Hornady but will research price vs. quality I'd suggest a 6" hf dial face caliper from them at $6.50 each. The battery on the electronic will go dead when you need it and the dial face is simple to read. I like this idea; Manual backups for everything! I'd also suggest you think about purchasing an RCBS Model 750 powder scale. Very accurate and they last forever. Possibly in the future, but I don't think I'll start with one.   Also, 5.56x45mm is black rifle ammo, not commie rifle ammo. You're thinking of 5.45x39mm for the AK-74.
  19. So, I've edited this first thread because I "made" my list and purchased it. I now own:   Lee Classic Cast Lee Universal Decapping Die MTM Universal Reloading Tray Lee Deluxe Carbide 4-Die Set 9mm Luger Frankford Arsenal Electronic Caliper Hornady Lock-N-Load Conversion Lyman Electronic Scale Powder Funnel Pan Frankford Arsenal DS-750 Electronic Scale Lee Perfect Powder Measure Now, I'm just getting started on reloading and will continually update this thread as I attempt to pickup reloading as a serious skill/hobby.
  20.   Well..they sorta have that too.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVNZqL642fY
  21.   That would be "Smart Gun" feature 2.0 After implementing and requiring gun smart features, instead of posting signs on doors businesses would also pay the "smart gun" companies to install devices in buildings that would disable "smart guns" based upon RFID technology, geofencing, radio frequency, etc. Carry your smart gun into a restaurant that doesn't allow carry? Don't worry, you are safe because they disable all the guns (except the black market "dumb guns" and of course those of LEO's whom are all trustworthy).   An alternate future shows that instead of doing what I've shown above, perhaps in order for the gun to fire you have to be wearing your "tag" if you will but also be within range of an acceptable "use" tag. Examples of acceptable "use" tags would be at a shooting range, on a reserved hunting area, etc. Then your firearm would only fire within specific areas. For a lot of money you could have a tag installed in your home so you could use it for self defense, but only after you go through lots of classes and training. For the extremely privileged, you could have a "use" tag installed in your wallet so you could carry.   Just my pondering but also all possible with existing technology. It would only need to be implemented. Of course criminals could easily circumvent it all, but possible if the legislature and research simply pushed it. I think I will write a book on it. Quite scary stuff.
  22. I have such an itch to replace my G19 with a S&W M&P9 and my G26 with a S&W M&P9c. However, I have not done so yet because I fear I'll regret it and then wish I had both of them back. Considering purchasing a M&P9c to try it out and then I can always sale it if I don't like it...right?   Right guys?
