  1.   I was wondering about this. Because personally when vehicle shopping I typically "move on" if I see the report shows an accident. Cars with records sell for less. It would be a huge no brainer if I could just take it to Young's or Cleveland Collision and then end up with something in the checking account to cover time/depreciation/gas in dealing with all of this. Truth is I could make it look "ok' by popping some of those dents out as much as possible and pushing the bumper back in and making sure it is secure.   I am adding some photos to the original post as I type this.
  2. Kelly Blue Book, if you still give them any worth, roughly estimates:   Very Good (I think it would have been this pre-wreck): $11,999 Private Party Fair (Arguably better than this because body work is all it needs to be in "Good) $10,541 Private Party   Now, I know that's quite subjective and to find a buyer for either "condition" would simply be subject to finding a buyer willing to pay that amount.   The difference is $1,458.
  3.   I nearly always use TN Reads for "rentals" now (free).   http://reads.lib.overdrive.com/4FCDF64E-76E8-40CE-8769-3BCB298C0F98/10/50/en/Default.htm   But, when I dealt more with free archives and the like, Calibre and it's "send" feature was nice:)
  4.   It seems to be driveable. I had just had an alignment before the crash and it seems to still be in just as good alignment. Not saying that nothing did happen, just saying I've driven it quite a bit since and so far so good. The damage itself is only something that would need to be "secured" a bit better. You could pop most of the damage back out but it wouldn't look perfect.
  5.   http://www.buzzfeed.com/juliapugachevsky/if-ron-swanson-quotes-were-motivational-posters   I have to say, I likely would not watch that show were it not for him. I know most of the show's humour towards him is tongue in cheek, but I like the character of Swanson enough to watch the show regardless.   Sorry, got distracted but I will probably go with #2 unless someone has experience leading me to #1.
  6. 11/8 I was involved in a minor traffic accident in a parking lot. Essentially, a woman was attempting to exit the parking lot and had it in reverse. Gassed it and backed right up into me. Police report sided with me and the driver confirmed that she backed into me. Her insurance, State Farm, is going to take care of it. Ultimately, I have, I believe, three main options. Take it to Young's Body Shop, Cleveland Collision, or Abbra's. (If I do this, they will bill State Farm and I never have to exhange money at all). Have the damage estimated by State Farm and have them cut me a check. I can then use that money to use whomever I wish. Have the damage estimated by State Farm and use that money to pay off part of the $6,210.84 I remain on the car. Get the car fixed out of pocket at a later date. Option 1 seems to me like probably the "safest" and "easiest". Option 2 potentially allows me to come out "ahead" if I find someone that can do it cheaper than the estimate. However, if additional damage is found I think they can directly bill State Farm for the adjustment. My family knows and typically uses someone that does body work and has his own body shop. In the past he has always done good work. Option 3 is tempting because it seems like "free money" to pay off debt. I estimate that the damage is probably $2000-$3000 but I truly have no idea. The front bumper and front right quarter panel would need to be replaced. Although this option seems tempting I am not entirely sure it is even possible, nor entirely sure it would be smart. Right now I'm "steamrolling" the debt at about $500 a month. I'll have it paid off in less than a year but if I used $2500 towards the debt I could have it paid off in less than 6 months. After that I could easily afford the cost to get it fixed. But at that point if additional damage was found I would probably have to pay that amount. State Farm will pay for a rental for me while it is being fixed. Right now I am "in-line" with 2 because tomorrow is when the estimator comes to take a look at the vehicle. I am just curious about your experiences with auto insurance claims and estimates when it comes to this stuff. Do the estimators get it pretty spot on in terms of reasonable repair costs? Should I do #1 or #2 for a very important specific reason I am overlooking? Should #3 be eliminated completly or is it a viable option (I'd love to knock 4-6 months off paying that vehicle off)? Anything else to consider? What is my best bet? (Clicking the images will bring them up full resolution)
  7.   Right. But you also have the capability of downloading/creating whatever you want and "sideloading" it via USB. Something file formats are not compatible but can be converted via Calibre. If it has DRM on it that isn't Amazon's, it is typically a no go.   What you can do is setup an email address in Calibre that is your "Add to Kindle" address.   http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email   Setup email based sharing of books: Allows sharing of books and news feeds by email. After setting up email addresses for this option, calibre will send news updates and book updates to the entered email addresses. You can configure how calibre sends email by setting preferences at Preferences->Sharing->Sharing books by email. Once you have set up one or more email addresses, this menu entry will be replaced by menu entries to send books to the configured email addresses.   All of this is probably a level or two above the standard "buy books from Amazon's Kindle Store". I'm not saying any of it is difficult, but for someone that isn't familiar with .epub/.mobi and then your run of the mill .txt, .pdf, etc and then on top of that USB and email server settings, it can be a bit confusing at first.
  8.   I don't care to drink a nice caffeinated even at 10:00PM or later (I sleep just fine even then), but that's a lot of coffee!
  9.   Caffeinated I presume?   Do they have to start an IV in the morning for you to wakeup? :snore:
  10. No. That's like using a second credit card to pay the interest on the first credit card so you don't "miss a payment". I didn't read the article, just going by what Perlman said. I could be wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. How "dirty" is the cup? My wife wants an Aeropress or a Chemex because they are supposed to be "smooth" and "clean" without any of the grind passing through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I guess my only concern is that they are typically made of aluminum. Now, I'm not one to worry about most things but I believe aluminmum has been shown have a link to alhzheimers.   Other than that, can you go into more detail about your experience with them?
  13. I have been very heavily considering getting a "Moka Pot". You can buy them locally at TJ Max or HomeGoods for $10, but Bialetti is the trusted brand from what I can tell and the local cheaper ones are knock-offs. My research shows that they have potential to make great coffee/expresso but take practice and experience. Any experience with one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lim8HacSka4
  14. RA9T made by Winchester. ~$0.40 to $0.60 a bang and I would trust them 10x more than these frangible ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Well, I tried some Google-Fu for you, hard to do when there isn't much to go by. So, instead I did what any self respecting CSI fan would do: I searched for all KFC in the area you spoke with, interpolated the area for all security/traffic cameras, downloaded all archived footage from them, viewed all video at once for the previous few hours today until I found the truck you were looking for, here you go: But that wasn't good enough. I took the image of the truck and then ran it through an algorithm for the previous 3 months video. At this point I was able to view times that the same truck had been to that KFC. I lucked out on one of them because I was able to zoom in on a passerby's Oakley sunglasses and then mirror the image horizontally. Passed that all I had to do was run some megapixel enhancement programs and then keep typing "enhance' on the keyboard. Sir Caster, I provide you with this: That's an image of the two workers as they ate their meal. Jose and Julio Almarez. DOB 6-21-1965 and 5-30-1980. SSN: 512-11-3910 for both of them. Ok, I kid I kid. I did try YellowPages.com for all in the Nashville area. http://www.yellowpages.com/search?search_terms=landscaping&geo_location_terms=nashville&s=name The closest that I may have found would be "A.L.S. Landscaping", but I really don't think that is it. http://alslandscapetn.com/ There is also "Alternative Engery" but I don't know if that's any better. Business Information: Alternative Engery LLC is managed by Edward Withrow, Owner, and employs jobs for approximately 10 people, with yearly revenues around $1,350,000.
  16.   Wish I could demo the Lollipop before jumping in again. Funny that Lollipop is supposed to provide:   Power for the long haul with a battery saver feature that extends your device by up to 90 minutes. And now it's easier to manage your power usage - see the estimated time left before you need to charge, and when you're charging, approximately how much time until it's topped up and ready to go.   But on the Nexus 5 it is draining it quicker. If I do it, I will probably try and stick with stock vanilla Android. Honestly it was partially all of the skins and "features" that pushed me away from Android and it was the vanilla Android that interests me again.
  17. FIRST, SOME BACKGROUND My first ever smartphone was the original Motorola Droid. I loved the thing, especially the slide out keyboard. I quickly integrated it into my home setup, allowing SSH to my computer and server just because I could (was running Linux on both of those at the time). Eventually I was convinced to try rooting and custom ROM's. Wow, was I blown away! I could overclock (and underclock) the phone at my desire. It was awesome. Eventually, I dropped the phone so many times that the power button would not allow me to wake or turn on the screen. I was due for an upgrade, so I went to Verizon and got the HTC Thunderbolt. Holy crap! This thing was 4G! I believe it was the first or one of the first 4G phones on Verizon, and I got it when 4G first came to Cleveland (we beat Chattanooga if I recall correctly). I was stunned. The connection speed was literally faster than my Charter Cable connection. It probably had higher latency by a few dozen milliseconds, but bandwidth exceeded Charter on all tests. That was because there were so few 4G devices. I ended up buying a MBP (MacBook Pro) and loved it. I had always wanted a Mac but could not afford one until I received sufficient scholarship money for school. This was when the 4s just came out and Apple was first releasing "iCloud" services (sync, etc). I had to get an iPhone. So I sold the Thunderbolt and bought an iPhone 4. Eventually I got rid of the iPhone 4 and went to a "dumb phone" for cost savings. It was ok I guess. Once I reached a point in my life I felt I could justify it again with cost savings through a MVNO, I purchased an iPhone 4s and used it with PagePlus. This thing worked great and integrated with iCloud even more than previously and with my Apple TV perfectly. I dropped it in water and it still worked for a few months. Since I was using a partially damaged phone, I purchased a Sprint Nexus 5 to use with Ting. I loved some things about it, being the first Android phone I had used in a number of years. But I was yearning to go back to iOS so everything would play nice. Eventually I decided to purchase a Sprint iPhone 5 and use it with Ting. It would have worked, had I not been scammed on Craigslist into buying a phone with a defective logic board or screen (there is a thread on here somewhere for that). I ended up sucking it up and finding an iPhone 5 on Ebay with Applecare. It worked fine with Ting. Then the lockscreen button stopped working and I went it to Apple and they sent me a refurbished phone for free. That's what I have now, a refurbished and 100% "mint" iPhone 5. WHERE I AM NOW Now, I own no home computer, just an Apple TV and my iPhone 5. I do have an Xbox One as well, and an Airport Extreme router (Apple's). There is also my Nest Thermostat (owned by Google now). Some of my reasoning for doing so are: Pressy IFTTT (of course this works with iOS but Android integration is much deeper (IF I GET A TEXT MESSAGE, THEN THIS, etc ) Tasker (Geeks Unite!) Wireless Charging Google Wallet/Pay Micro USB (Seriously, reversible lightning is great but the pricing is not) Now, some reasons against me doing so are that I have ~120 movies I've purchased in the iTunes Store (sales, stuff like that. I probably have less that $5 in each movie. Of course these are locked to the Apple. Even though I know it is possible (and illegal), I don't want to get into stripping the DRM off them or anything like that. Also, it is very nice to have a router that interfaces perfectly with your phone. The Apple TV is nice, yet I find myself using the Xbox One for Amazon Prime more often than not. IF I make the switch, it would be all or nothing. New router, no Apple TV (possible switched with something in the future but would see how long the Xbox One would work). For digital movies, thinking Ultraviolet system may be better overall. For those unaware, Ultraviolet is simply a "locker" or database that keeps record of what movies you have. Then services, such as VUDU, connect to Ultraviolet and let you stream whatever movies you have. VUDU is technically, I believe, higher quality streams than Apple's. I could access the movies from the Xbox One, Android, etc etc. It is much more universally available. So, I created this thread about Lollipop. Last time I used Android I think KitKat was just released. I realize not much has changed, but has anyone used a Nexus 5 with Lollipop? Bonus points if you are near Cleveland and want some one on one geek time.
  18. Amazon Black Friday Deals Amazon claims to run "Pre Black Friday" deals up until Black Friday. I don't know about that but I have been watching the items. Some good things, not bought anything yet.   I typically try and do all of my shopping online Black Friday to Cyber Monday for Christmas.   I pay for Prime yearly ($39 a year since I used my .edu email but still worth the full amount. If you haven't tried it, you should give their 30 day free trial a go. Make not to try and take advantage of all it offers.   Unlimited, ad-free streaming of over a million songs *Instantly watch over 40,000 movies and TV episodes *FREE two-day shipping (no minimum order size) *Borrow Kindle books     That's my holiday shopping!   P.S.   If you try and fight the crowd on actual Black-Friday, you're insane. I'd rather stay at home, eat more food, and do my shopping on the internet. That is why they invented it.   :usa:
  19. My vote would as well be for the Kindle Paperwhite. It is by far the best "E-Reader" for the money. I would like to try the Kindle Voyage, but it is a bit pricier.   I would also vote that regardless of the method, you make your purchases via Amazon Kindle. Windows/Mac and iOS/Android and more, your books will be accessible from nearly everywhere! That beats buying them from the Google Play Store or Apple's Books.   The apps are, of course, free.   For reading, I would vote that you stick with an "E-Reader" vs an actual tablet. The "E-Readers" are cheaper, lighter, and more durable. If you took your $80-$120 "E-Reader" to the river and dropped it in the water and it was gone forever, you wouldn't feel as bad as if it were your $400 iPad that does all the tricks. For simple, worry free reader, E-Readers cannot be beat! But since you are buying your books from Amazon's Kindle Store, you can access your books on an iPad or computer in the future if you so desire.
  20. In the state of TN, your employer can fire you if they find out you simply like guns. In my opinion anyone that supports freedom and liberty should agree with me. When someone is pulling money out of their pocket and paying you to do work for them, they should be able to stop the flow of that money to you for any reason they prefer. Gators fan? Wore mismatched socks by accident? Interrupted your boss during a meeting? Ate a hamburger in front of your vegan boss? Showed up to work late. Showed up to work early. Drive a foreign vehicle. Drive a Ford. Drive a Chevy. Keep a gun in your locked car. Any of those reasons are good enough to fire someone in the state of TN. You don't need a reason in the state of TN to fire someone. What protecting gun owners in the way you suggest would do is create another protected class. I'm sure we need another one of those don't we? Then anytime someone that had a gun in their vehicle that got fired would claim it was for that reason. See the problem? Also, as anti-gun as this may sound to some, it is perfectly within the right of an employer to fire you for even liking guns. They could fire you if they wanted if they found out you were a member of TGO. They should have this right. Anything contrary to that is government interference.
  21. I was looking through a list of hot ballet measures, found here:   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2014/ballot-measures   WA State had the following:   Initiative Measure No. 591: Prohibit government agencies from confiscating guns or other firearms from citizens without due process, or from requiring background checks on firearm recipients unless a uniform national standard is required   Initiative Measure No. 594: Apply currently used criminal and public safety background checks by licensed dealers to all firearm sales and transfers, including gun show and online sales, with specific exceptions   591 did not pass. 594 did.
  22.   It's ok to drink they night before. Nobody votes with a hangover;)   They just don't want you accidentally selecting an honorable candidate at the pole because you were slightly buzzed.
  23. Years ago I bought a historical bayonet collection and sold them individually on eBay. I had one person from New Zealand purchase one or more. I found out that they were restricted for import into New Zealand. I contacted him about it and said it would be ok because he had a license. Said overall that it wasn't hard to get a license and that he could own many things that we could not here in the US. Very nice guy!
