  1. There are better handguns for any application, but Glocks have their place. They make decent (but not the best) duty gun. They are very reliable, accurate with practice, and don't have a safety to get in the way during the adrenalin rush. Glocks are not a bad choice for a duty weapon. But you will notice that I refer to owning Glocks in the past tense. The G26 was traded for an XD-9 sub the first day I saw and shot the XD. The G23 became a USP 40 variant 3 (de-cocker but no safety). I still think most public (as opposed to LE) purchases are because people want a gun "like the cops carry." Sort of an imagined aura of transferred professionalism. I know my comments always get Glockie's panties in a wad, but guns are tools, not a religion. Well, my P7M8 is almost a religion.... It's good to be critical of any gun and always look for something better.
  2. Oh god...we've got grammar police.... (Maybe a PM would have been in order.) As far as the kennel is concerned, maybe it's a bunch of people who don't want dogs barking all day and/or night. In Tennessee, if you live within an incorporated city, you will probably be subject to all sorts of laws, some sensible and some just busy-body stuff. Counties have a lot fewer restrictions they are allowed to force on you. Some years ago, Sullivan county had a referendum and banned fireworks. It turns out that counties can't do that sort of thing. They can refuse to issue licenses to sell fireworks, but can't actually ban you from shooting them - although they might be able to confiscate them in some circumstances. That came from a friend of mine who was a DA and is now a judge.
  3. I remember hearing the story several weeks ago. Guess they finally decided what to do with him. He was off to the side of the car. To say they tried to run over him is stretching it a bit. The sheriff was dancing all around the issue when I saw him. Not that I disagree that LE should be able to shoot under circumstances where BGs are trying to get away. But SCOTUS has been pretty plain that you can't do that.
  4. He sounds pretty straight-forward. Let us know your view of him after you meet.
  5. Rather poorly written story. Obviously a homeowners' association or management group can't make anything "illegal." But they may be able to impose deed restrictions. Stuff like what type of fence you can build. As far as banning guns, this is meaningless. It's also stupid. If some resident did get rid of his guns because of this action and then got robbed or attacked, the association might very well be liable. I imagine their attorneys are telling them that.
  6. I've made it a habit of always checking my handguns when I get out of a car to make sure the magazine is still fully locked in. With the proper holster, it shouldn't be a problem, but it's always worth checking.
  7. I'm in a semi-rural setting. I have about a 500 foot drive off of the county road to get into my place. Other houses are along the road. It didn't take the neighborhood kids long to spot my USP 40 on my side when I checked the mailbox. They asked if I was a cop. They were cool with having a neighbor that carries a gun. Good kids, I think. But it never hurts to remind kids that some people can take care of themselves.
  8. I had the extended magazine release on my G23 and it wasn't a problem, but I seldom use a Kydex holster. The ambidextrous release on the USP is very nice, BTW. I found the LaserMax switch on the G26 to be really clunky. If you use a laser, it needs to be easily turned on and off.
  9. Maybe if they didn't have to get their quota of moving and non-moving vehicle stops on each shift, maybe they could actually find time to work on the crime problem.
  10. I thought he sounded like someone who knows what he is doing. I'd love to talk to him about his opinion of all the schools.

  12. I charge $500 per hour - and I'm slow.
  13. I talked to the Federal factory guy in person at a show about the EFMJs. Basically I got a duh look. I guess they aren't working out.
  14. Your tax dollars at work. I don't think Ammolab has any of the old stuff online anymore about much of anything. Anyway, I couldn't find a page referencing BMT rounds, so this is from my archive of the Ammolab BMT page:
  15. Actually, much the same can be said for Extreme Shock. They aren't bad bullets, just marketed in a ridiculous fashion. Extreme Shock, somewhere in that mess of a website, tells us that their rounds are used by Special Forces. I found out that is true by making a couple of calls to some of my SF friends. (One guy pretty much called me a liar for reporting this, BTW. He couldn't find the government contract for the purchase. Not all military purchases go through such contracts, however. I shall not say more....) Anyway, SF does use the rounds. But they are not used in the field. They are used as practice rounds to keep from destroying their metal targets, and fragment/ricochet problems and eliminate lead contamination. That isn't the impression Extreme Shock wants to give though.
  16. It would probably give them more pause if they saw a bunch of people running around with a gun on their hip. There are some good reasons to carry concealed, and I generally do so in most public situations, but the reason is not because I give a sh*t what the neighbors might think. It would probably do the neighbor's kids some good to see decent people packing a gun to protect themselves from thugs.
  17. I made the crack above about the bullet making your head explode when it hits your chest. That wasn't just a random remark, although it isn't Extreme Shock that makes that claim, it's a company called RBCD distributed by Le Mas. These BMT (Blended-Metal-Technology) rounds are only sold to LE and military. I've had some short emails with Stan Bulmer when I was trying to obtain some of these rounds for testing. . You'll never meet a bigger bullsh*tter.. He wanted everything to be in a phone call rather than in writing. I declined to do a phone talk with him (even though in Tennessee only one party to a call has to know they are being taped). Unfortunately, Blackwater always gives the guy a stage during their shootout. You've probably seen the videos of these rounds "sensing" the temperature of the target and blowing up beef roasts while penetrating "cold" bullet-resistant glass. BTW, the "Blended-Metal-Technology" bullets have no "Blended-Metal". Ammolab obtained some and cut them open. They are pure lead tipped with a nylon ball follower. I wonder where they hid the temperature sensor????
  18. I like the Extreme Shock ammo because if you shoot them in the chest, it makes their head explode. JUST KIDDING. The stuff is made about an hour drive from me by Mullins Ammunition. I talked to the owner several years ago and he was supposed to send me some to test. Then he found out that I was going to do real testing, with Gelatin and all, and he backed out. As Len says, the stuff actually is good as a safety type round. But the hype turns off a lot of potential buyers.
  19. Well, he has a little hype.... IF YOU COMPLETED A HANDGUN PERMIT COURSE AT ANOTHER SCHOOL, AND STILL FEEL YOU NEED OR WANT MORE TRAINING, YOU MAY ATTEND TRAINING WITH A.P.P.S. IF YOU DON'T GET 10 TIMES MORE OUT OF OUR TRAINING, WE WILL TRIPLE YOUR MONEY BACK!! But his courses look pretty practical. Not Rambo wannabe stuff. He seems to be pretty respected. He's a retired Senior Tactical Officer with the Metropolitan Nashville PD and was appointed to the Emergency Communications District Board. Also has several 2A groups that say nice things about him. A cursory check looks OK.

I'm like everyone else. They are OK, but not special. Adequate for a utility gun.
  22. Things have really changed for the better on the TCP thing. When I took my class, it could take several weeks just to get in and do the fingerprinting using ink at the Highway Patrol office. Then it would take another couple of months to actually get the permit.
