I used to wake up and ask where my car was, but then I cut way down on the drinking.

Work Warning... Penn & Teller video about gun control
Marswolf replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Yeah, this one disappears pretty quickly. I couldn't find it in a quick search. You can normally find it in a torrent. -
Actually, Tennessee Tech is pretty respected by companies looking for good people. But you are right that willingness to move, particularly in IT, makes a big difference in your quality of life. Contact someone at Snelling Personnel Professional Division and tell them you are willing to relocate. They will slobber all over you! Just don't change your mind about relocating. There is a saying in the placement industry about candidates going from winner, to whiner, to wiener.

Kinda like Tungsten. I can't say I never used my engineering degree, but didn't work for a company as an engineer. At one time I did do a lot of work with the nuke power industry on system components, but that was 20 years ago. Have a couple of other degrees too that I don't use.

Guess he didn't check his calendar?

Just curious how many of us are of which handed persuasion. Personally, I'm pretty much right-handed except for drinking alcoholic beverages, when any of my hands will do. Yes, I practice offhand shooting, but it's strictly an emergency matter.

Not much here but just enough lightening and thunder to sucker us into letting three dogs sleep on the bed with us because they were terrified. Yeah, right....

Love it. My wife and I ended up at the Bristol Mall a couple of nights ago to meet some out-of-town friends. I hadn't been there for a while but found the mall security staff was still basically a couple of brothers. I introduced my wife and mentioned that I noticed they now carried handcuffs. Was told that the ownership of the mall had changed and the security people now worked for another company. Still can't carry guns, but they did get handcuffs. He said that in Virginia the mall security folks have arrest powers on the property.

I added a review for: Byrd's Specialty Firearms, LLC. 416 East Jackson Blvd. Jonesborough, TN 37659 at http://www.tngunowners.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=28 Thought I'd mention it here as the review section is fairly new.

I'm learning too. Apart from my POing all the Glock owners, I've enjoyed getting the responses from them.

I suspect you will probably be in trouble if you shoot an unarmed man. You may be acquitted, but I'll bet you go to court unless you end up in the hospital from his attack. That being said, guns are only one aspect of self protection. You need to know other ways to protect yourself.

I understand that. We had a dozen people in three time zones and countries. Median age around 45 I'd say. Mostly combat military (current or retired) but some active LE. I told them about the Glock feud here and got their input. All of us have owned Glocks; some of us carried them at one time. Current collective Glock ownership of the group - one - and it stays in a nightstand. Tungsten, we need a dead horse emoticon.

EAST Tenn. TGO members interested in a ______ get together?

Tower, please do check with your brother. I don't see that it matter much which town we go to in the Tri-Cities. Tell him we'll buy him a box of cheap ammo, I still think we need two different weekends for Knoxville and the Tri-Cities. That way we could pick a get together close to us or travel a bit and meet some different people. Wouldn't hurt to include Chattanooga too. -
Thanks GlocKing. I have a nasty feeling that he is going to slip in as OK because he finished his sentence before 1995. I don't know enough of the history of sexual abuser laws to understand why the cutoff date since they vary from state to state. Probably some ex post facto thing.

I don't know I can disagree with any of this. If you practice often the same good technique you get better. At the same time, it's wise to practice less than usual techniques in case a situation should ever occur where the normal way of aligning and firing can't be done. Bottom line for me - I'll practice point shooting occasionally when I go through offhand drills and stuff, but I doubt I'll do it very often.

Sorry guys, but I think one of you owes me a new keyboard. I laughed so hard I spit coke on it. I spent much of the day in meetings over at the VA including some teleconferencing with folks up in DC. During one break, I heard one of the DC guys mention "those pain in the ass Glock people who go around talking stupid about keeping your finger off of the trigger instead of getting a decent gun." His words - not mine. Don't shoot the messenger. Always having good firearms safety practices are an ideal, but a pipe dream. It doesn't happen in real life. A good gun can compensate for minor brain-farts before it requires surgery. But I'm beating a dead horse. You get it or you don't. And in the circles I run in, the Glock is not considered a "fighting pistol". It's just an adequate cheaper compromise for a good handgun.

I consider a cocked and unlocked 1911 to be about the same in safety to a Glock as long as the owner hasn't lightened the 1911 trigger. But you can't put the Glock into a safer mode. It's always ready and that can be either a plus or a minus. Most 1911s have a half-cock. While not intended as a drop safety, it does function in that mode in guns earlier than the Series 80, that has a firing pin safety. So, for many 1911s it is possible for a fully de-cocked weapon to go off if sufficient force is applied to the hammer. I would expect a gun designed in the 1980s to improve on that, and Series 80 guns actually did fix the problem.

I had a few minutes yesterday, so I pulled up The sex offender registry and typed in my zip code. I found a sex offender that I know. Can't say I was exactly surprised about this guy. He was convicted in Florida on March 29, 1988 of "LEWD/LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD." My guess is that alcohol was involved and it was his own child. OK, so this is where I need some help. I'm not up on Tennessee sex offender laws, but this guy lives withing 1000 feet of a school. I thought there was a law making this illegal in Tennessee, but I can't find that in the code. Additionally January 1, 1995 is a magic date for a lot of sex offenders. This may have a bearing on the matter. "Violent sexual offender" means a person who has a conviction, as defined in subdivision (2), for a "violent sexual offense", as defined in subdivision (25); provided, that: (A) The conviction occurs on or after January 1, 1995; or ( If the conviction occurred prior to January 1, 1995, the person: (i) Remains under or is placed on probation, parole, or any other alternative to incarceration on or after January 1, 1995; (ii) Is discharged from probation, parole, or any other alternative to incarceration on or after January 1, 1995; or (iii) Is discharged from incarceration without supervision on or after January 1, 1995; He seems to have a connection to Virginia and is possibly on a list there also, although I couldn't find it. Anyone know enough about this school distance thing and whether the law applies to someone convicted of sexual abuse but who finished their sentence before January 1, 1995? I'd rather get my facts and laws straight before I start making phone calls. I know this list is not a complete listing of sex offenders. I know a guy in Marietta Georgia who was twice convicted of soliciting a child, once in Florida and once in Kingsport. After his jail time here he moved to Marietta and, as far as I know is still active in the community there. And I'm guessing that no one knows about his child sex perversion. I don't understand why there is a cutoff date for being listed.

I know a guy who used to be an Internet gun dealer. He didn't like the USP because he thought the seam on the hammer molding didn't look good. He sold his company and moved out of state. Always figured there was more to that story.

Main problem we have here in the Tri-Cities is no good place to shoot - yet. But to be honest, while I love all of you to death, I probably wouldn't drive 250 miles round trip to shoot with you. I'd rather just have a nice meal. -
Me too - but none of them are Glocks.

This is from a project I did a couple of years ago. The black area is the unsupported chamber area from a G30 (45 ACP).
