It would be really good to get this information in the reviews database at http://www.tngunowners.com/reviews/index.php. We aren't using that forum feature much.

  3. As I said, watch out for the trip wires.

I think that's it Phantom6. As everything in the gun trade, there are always other places to buy shooting items, whether it is a gun, ammo, or other shooting gear. A dealer may not make as much on a gun sale by doing a reasonably priced transfer, but the good will is likely to bring the buyer back for other goodies.
  5. The H&K SA triggers are good in all I've tried. The DA on the USP could be better, but it does smooth out after a while. Since that isn't normally the way I'd fire it, it isn't a big deal to me. I always cock the hammer if things might get harry. I do practice DA though. It's quite usable. Their DAO stuff is quite good. To my way of thinking Glock triggers are OK. They seem repeatable and that's mostly what you need. I don't understand why so many people have problems with NDs with them.
  6. My concealed carry is a P7M8. The USP 40 is open carry.

Just checked Auction Arms list and my guy has gone up to $20. That's reasonable. Other guys want $30. Check their listing and see what shows up for your area. There are several in the Nashville, Goodlettsville area that will transfer for $20 or $25. One guy in Memphis for $25.

I checked the listing of transfer agents on Auction Arms (at least I think that was where I found it) and they had a listing for a local guy who will do the transfers for $15 plus the $10 state fee. Bought my AK that way long ago. Having said that, I try to support my local gun dealers when I can.
  10. Bet you enjoy shooting that!
  11. I'll mostly deal with the USP here, but much of this applies to all H&K handguns. Only con I know is that they are more expensive. Well, they have Germanic customer service, but you aren't likely to need it. They are highly reliable, very high quality weapons. Compared to similar looking polymer handguns, they have significant additional strengthening material molded into the polymer. If you take a magnet, you will find a lot of metal that you would not expect to be there. The levers, like slide release levers are of a reasonable size and function easily. In the USP, the hammer and SA/DA trigger gives you a lot of safety but can always be in a fireable condition. The ability to de-cock and re-cock is a significant advantage in my experience. The gun has the ability to either have a lever safety or not depending on your preference and these are changeable, in many cases by the user, in seconds. It can be field stripped without dry firing. Too many little things to go into here. In all it's just a very professional handgun. I went through quite a few guns before settling on the H&K as two of my four duty weapons. BTW, in case you are wondering about the torture tests so advertised by one manufacturer, here is an old test you might want to see. Pay attention to the recoil reduction system information too and note that other manufacturers have copied it since this test was done. But this proactive approach to quality and innovation is common in H&K weapons. Basically, they are well designed and probably even better than you think they are.
  12. Tower, Top Notch also carries them. Mike will match or beat Gunslingers. Voodoo, The latest P3AT was the worst for FTEs. The first had more problems with reliable feeding and I did get some stovepipes that were my fault because of inexperience with the weapon (limp-wristing). I polished the ramp (that felt like it was corrugated) and the problem went away. But I've always suspected that the ramp work and feeding reliably was just coincidence. I think it just needed a good loosening up. At any rate, the 2nd gens have a smooth ramp. My second P3AT had very few problems even from the beginning. I wouldn't consider carrying one until it has a hundred rounds through it, but normally 50 will smooth it out. Once you get used to the handgun and loosen it up, it works well and is surprisingly accurate for such a short sight radius weapon. While I don't recommend it for distance shots, it does do OK if needed.
  13. I totally agree. Oh...did I do that? I know a local shop that carries Saturday night specials...errr...Jimenez Arms handguns. I kid them about it, but kept thinking that is is actually safer than a Glock. And you can always use it as a boat anchor.
  14. I hate to get this back on topic.... But here is the text of the bill. Note that it is "REINSTATEMENT FOR 10 YEARS OF REPEALED CRIMINAL PROVISIONS RELATING TO ASSAULT WEAPONS AND LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES" - not permanently. I still think this will be put on the back burner to wait for a Democratic President, or Republican gun-grabber, to come to office in 2009. There are quite a few Democrats who understand that this is a losing issue for them and prefer to not churn the waters too much until after the 2008 elections. But it will be back. Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 (Introduced in House) HR 1022 IH 110th CONGRESS 1st Session H. R. 1022 To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes. 15. No thanks, I like the NIV.

    I've had it!!!

I know a lot of people who use avg free and like it. I still prefer avast!
  17. Nice story. I like reading stuff like this.
  18. I'm not big on posting this type of information. Who knows who reads these posts and who may not like me. All I'll say is watch out for the trip wires.
  19. I was in a shop yesterday and comparing grips on polymer guns. The USP grips just fit me much better than the others I tried. Of course, I'm used to the USP, so it may not be a fair test. Anyway, congratulations on the new quality handgun!
  20. Ron Paul is a good guy, but would get about 1% of the votes. He's a bit too much a strict constitutionalist - like me.
  21. As mentioned in another topic, I now have yet another P3AT. This is my third one, although I gave away my first to someone who had a greater need for it than I did at the time. It was a 1st generation. I now have two 2nd generation little Kel-Tecs. While I was happy with the 1st generation version after break-in and ramp polishing, the 2nd gens correct a few minor problems of the early guns, like the not needed ejector, single piece better contoured slide that doesn't lose the recoil rod/spring holder, properly smooth ramp and improved extractor. They did the 2nd gen right. So, I went to the range to break-in the new handgun, as I have learned is needed for these little weapons. I cleaned and lubricated the gun before shooting it. This also gives a good inspection of anything obviously wrong. Loaded up some Remington plinker rounds. Put two rounds downrange and the third round had a FTE. Now, I've been shooting these P3ATs for some time, so I knew my problem was not limp-wristing that is common to new users, plus it wasn't stove-piping but more like the extractor wasn't seating properly. Cleared the handgun. 4th round was OK, but 5 & 6 FTEd. Changed to a different magazine. Had two FTEs on that one. I was beginning to think a trip to Florida was in order for the new gun or at least a call for another extractor. To make a long story short, the FTEs continued but at a much less frequent rate. By the 50th round, the problem had disappeared. You just have to plan on 50 rounds through the P3AT to get it operating reliably. BTW, that's a lot less than the 500 rounds Wilson Combat says you need to put downrange to get their 1911s working properly. I put a couple of magazines of Hydra-Shoks through it to see how they would do. No problems - just as I expected. Since this was a break-in run, I didn't bother to set up targets but just aimed at mud puddles and dirt clods. I found that without really trying I was pretty consistently (yes, there was an occasional flyer) able to get within three inches of objects at about 20 yards and certainly within a chest area at 50 yards. These have proven themselves to be very good handguns for BUG or casual protection use. But you have to break them in.
  22. Well, I no longer have the XD-9 sub. It was a car gun and after much recent consideration of its Glock-like qualities I decided to go with something more appropriate. I still have other handguns on my hip, but for car use, I decided another Kel-Tec P-3AT was a better way to go. Instead of keeping it in the side door pocket, the 380 can go in the little shelf under the radio in my Taurus, where it is more handy for someone like me who is so right-pawed. So, the transition on this handgun has gone from a G26 to an XD-9 sub, to a P-3AT. I'll probably miss the XD on occasion. It's still a better choice if you want a Glock-like handgun.
  23. Talked to a gun shop guy yesterday. He said he liked everything about H&Ks - except the price.
  24. Marswolf

    Plinker?

Oh, Glocks are very reliable. They just aren't very safe. But other guns are equally reliable and more safe.
  25. I'll see what I can do. It would probably be better to be told no than wonder about it. Even if the AG said the law does not automatically exclude guns, the parks would probably just be posted. I'd like to see a law that says they can't post in public parks.
