I'll second the recommendation regarding local government jobs. If you can deal with an income on the low side, they can be good stepping stone jobs. I worked for one of the largest local governments in the state, and I was able to get exposure to a nice variety of technologies. That experience put me ahead of most of my peers when I got a LAN support job at a large corporation. I am not sure if the same opportunities would exist at a mid-sized local government, but it is worth some consideration. While educational institutions need some of the same infrastructure as everyone else, they seem to represent a pretty distinctive niche. With your background you're probably better prepared to deal with the frustrations of a corporate IT job or an IT shop as discussed above. A mid-sized company has advantages, but beware of getting into a situation where one (1) or two (2) folks have a lot of power and want to hold on to it at your expense. I ran into that at my local government job, but I had a boss that handled him very well. I'd like to think she was that good, but she may have just been "lucky" that her approached worked. I think a lot of it will come down to how patient you're willing to be and how much you want to get away from the culture you're in now.

Rethinking HCP carry after San Bernadino
Ski replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Imagine my disappointment when I clicked on the link and it wasn't a revolver with a 75" barrel. :-) -
I don't think I've heard of anything serious in W TN, but I have heard of serious damage and fatalities in AR and N MS (including Holly Springs).

The link below indicates that he's 18. Perhaps he'll spend his 19th birthday in jail. Interestingly enough, it lists two (2) charges. 1. Robbery, Aggravated, Weapon or Object 2. Weapon, Illegal Purchase or Attempt to Purchase Do you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in TN? I thought 18 was the minimum for non-dealer sales. http://dcso.nashville.gov/Search/Details/783851

A couple of months ago Academy and Walmart in my area had 22lr available for a few weeks, but it didn't last. The selection at Academy dwindled to a few boxes of a couple of varieties. Walmart had shorts a week or two ago and had a few boxes of CCI 22lr for ~$0.07/rnd. Otherwise they didn't have any since the brief glut.

I know there is a Massachusetts trigger option (10#). I learned a new term from this quote in the article. I'd never heard of a "tactical unintended discharge" before. "as soon as widespread use of the new gun by field deputies commenced, there was a marked increase in tactical unintended discharges -- that is, deputies firing weapons without intending to do so during police operations." I propose to modify it slightly: "tactical unintended round discharge". We'll call it TURD for short.

I compared the following at a local range: SR9c, M&P40c, and Glock 23. The SR9c had the best trigger, but one of the range employees said it was not as reliable as the other two (2). I came across a deal on a police trade-in M&P40c, and since it had a better trigger than the Glock I bought it. If the availability of aftermarket accessories is important, then get the Glock. The SR9c will likely have the best trigger. I hope that helps.

I'm not familiar with David, but I wouldn't exclude the possibility he had a really stupid thought all by himself. Presenting it as "just" suicide by cop is ridiculous. I suppose the end might have been suicide by cop, but the beginning and middle seem like a terrorist attack. As you said, I would not have expected him to leave the original scene if it were "just" a suicide by cop.

How many magazines did they send you?

There was also this post about it that got no replies. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/91538-taurus-lawsuit-info/ I checked the link from the OP (and some pages linked from there), and I am not clear on what the new news is. There's been no recent update on the law firm's website. http://mhhlaw.net/recent-news/ I did find an interesting article, though. The short version is that one of the lawyers says Taurus doesn't have "a fix for the gun" and "will have to offer new gun models in exchange or the $200 cash back." ADDED ON EDIT: I wonder if that quote applies specifically to the PT 609 mentioned in the article or to all of the class pistols. http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2015/11/alabama_man_files_lawsuit_agai.html According to the settlement website, there are a couple of important dates. https://www.tauruscartersettlement.com/ 12/14/2015 (this Monday) - Deadline to object or request exclusion 01/20/2016 - Final Approval Hearing Date Obviously none of the settlement information outlined means much until the judge approve it.

I noticed the same thing. It sounds like the shooter executed the dog after the threat was already neutralized. I suppose the dog could have still been thrashing around, but it seems suspicious. The dog's owners learned the hard way how important it is to maintain control of your dog. At least I hope they've learned for the sake of any future dogs they may own.

IANAL (or OS), but that could be illegal in TN (depending on how much is in stock). An individual without a prescription is limited to 5.76 grams in any 30-day period or 28.8 grams in any one-year period. It's my understanding that that's a lot, but nevertheless the innocent are punished for the sins of a few. Regarding the original topic, do you think they might have bought them to mark up and resell at their convenience store(s) or mall kiosk(s)?

Perhaps the alligator was in fear for its life. On a serious note, the guy didn't deserve to die for burglary.

There is currently a discount available on Lifetime Membership, but the price is $500 (instead of $1000). It's my understanding that the price is going up to $1500 in January. The phone number to claim the discount is 888-678-7894.

I believe there is one on Goodman road in Southaven, and I think there's going to be one built in Cordova.

I'm pretty sure I spotted a TGO sticker on Winchester in Collierville around 19:05 tonight. It was on a dark (green I think) GMC Sierra.

Glad you're okay! I had to re-bolt a mechanical fuel pump to the side of an engine block on an old '72 Cutlass on I-240 over Airways many years ago. It had come unfastened and was hanging by the fuel lines. I had my dad bring me some bolts and nuts (one post and one bolt). That was before I had a cell phone. It wasn't nice when the semi's whizzed by and shook the car. I hate that I sold that car. My day has been crazy. I'm grateful I wasn't stranded on the shoulder in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Actually that particular behavior serves to enhance the returns of the fund SupaRice touted. That fund is designed to go up as the volatility of the market goes up--possible oversimplification warning. The particularly interesting correlation is that it really jumped up as the volume of trading in itself rose. Unfortunately I think SupaRice is gloating, and we all know it's not nice to gloat. ;) It might just be time to own something like that...

I rented one a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked the trigger. An employee at the range mentioned that it hadn't been as reliable as the Glocks and M&Ps. What has she seen from a reliability standpoint? I ordered a police trade-in M&P40c from Bud's.

I was told that Academy in Olive Branch, MS had quite a bit including some 300+ packs this weekend. I verified that Walmart on Winchester (Memphis) still had quite a bit of Blazer 50ct this evening, and Academy in Collierville had a decent assortment of low count boxes including some CCI subsonic. I'm not sure if they had any stingers. It's still behind the counter, though.

Walmart on Winchester in Memphis had about 120 boxes of Blazer (50ct) this afternoon. Collierville had some last week but ran out on Friday.

Thanks for the info. I was seriously considering one, but a good deal came up on some police trade ins (M&P40 and M&P40c). I might still buy one eventually. Time will tell...

How many were you able to recover? Inquiring minds want to know. :pleased:

Police Trade M&P40 15+1, 4.25" w/ 3 Mags & Night Sights $314 Buds

Thanks for the "heads up". I tried to use that code on a used M&P40c, and It told me the following: "No products matched the requirements for this coupon." It looks like it only applies to the full sized...decisions...decisions...
