I recently picked up a Scrapyard scrapper 5 in SR101 steel in a trade, I am really not all that educated on knives or knife steels so I was curious to find out more about this knife. Anyone know more about these particular knives?

I could never get the hang of flying, so after crashing a couple beyond repair, I switched over to playing with RC cars and trucks, I still have several nitro powered ones but I don't get the chance to get them out very often anymore.

Threats Made By New Black Panthers Leader
RichardR replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That is true, I am mostly interested in the firearms sections of the board, occasionally if there is no new posts in those I will click around the other forums a little, which is how I came across this thread. -
Threats Made By New Black Panthers Leader
RichardR replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Maybe I am misunderstanding what you were trying to say in the above quote, granted I am still sort of new around here but I haven't seen any posts inciting any sort of violence (racial or otherwise). -
Threats Made By New Black Panthers Leader
RichardR replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The NBPP isn't a threat in & of itself, but as the news reports show there does seem to be a growing trend of increased racial tension & outbreaks of race related (black on white) violence. IMHO the shooting of that Trayvon fellow seems like it is just a handy excuse, it actually feels like some folks in that community are just looking for a reason ... any reason ... to attack their fellow Americans & that is the real troubling part. -
Interesting discussion, I've really enjoyed reading through it. I think that if I was planning on arming a small family group of 5, 2 of which being children, within the same budget ($7500) it'd probably look more like (approximate prices are on the high end, used equipment can of course always be found cheaper). Adults: 3x Mossberg 590A1's 20" 8+1 capacity, ghostring sights, +4 capacity speed feed stock ($500ish x 3 = $1500ish) 3x Glock 17 or 19's w/at least 3 extra magazines a piece for a total of 5 per person ($500ish x 3 = $1500ish) Young Adults: 2x Ruger 10/22 carbine's, synthetic stocks, fiber optic sights, w/a couple of extra steel lipped 25rd magazines each ($250ish x 2 = $500ish). 2x Walther P22's, 3.5" barreled version, w/a couple of extra magazines each ($300ish x 2 = $600ish). Communial: 1x Remington 700 SPS tactical, 20" barrel, chambered in .308 & scoped with decent quality 3-9x glass ($1500ish) 1x Yugoslavian M70AB2, w/about 10x 30rd magazines & at least 2x 75rd drum magazines ($800ish). That would leave about $1100 left over to buy ammunition. Anyway here are the reasons that I choose to go that particular route, first & foremost I don't think that there is a more versitile survival tool than the shotgun, not only is it a devistating self-defense weapon it can also take every type of wild game imaginable, be it flying fowl, deer, bear, elk, moose, rabbit, squirrel, hog, woodchuck or even fish (although I highly recommend NOT sticking the end of the barrel actually in the water). The Glock 17 or 19 would be my choice of sidearm for the adults simply because Glocks are as rugged & reliable as rugged and reliable gets and 9mm is more than sufficient for self-defense IMHO and is widely availible and relatively inexpensive, with the addition of a couple of 33rd magazines they might even be able to make enough noise to ward off all but the most determined of foes. The 10/22's would probably be my first choice for older children & young adults, the .22LR cartridge might not be the best defensive choice but my main concern would be having a rifle that the kids could train with comfortably & not be intimidated to fire it, this would be extremely important if the situation was so dire that the kids ever had to actually use a firearm to defend themselves. The Walther P22 follows the same 10/22 logic as above, I would want something that the kids could be comfortable training with & shooting while still being lethal enough to give them some measure of protection if ever an emergency type situation ever arose. As for the communial fireams, the Remington 700 (or any other precision high-powered rifle) aside from hunting, would be used for "overwatch" duty or for any type of preditor control that requires safely reaching beyond a shotguns effective reach, the .308 cartridge is also widely availible & relatively inexpensive for high-quality factory ammunition, comparitively speaking that is. The Yugoslavian M70AB2 is, for those who don't know, is a folding stock AK-47 variant that is built off of a RPK reciever, an RPK for those who don't know is a light machine gun varient of the AK & is a bit "heavier-dutier" than a standard AKM reciever is, anyway the purpose behind the M70AB2 & for the 75rd drum magazines included with it, would be in case (God forbid) the need for sustained suppressive fire ever arose. The only reason I would choose the AB2 version of the M70 instead of the traditional fixed stock M70 is just simply because they fold down into a slightly easier to store package, there is not any real performance difference between the two for this particular one's intended role, getting a good cheek weld isn't something you're going to worry about when you are blasting through a 75rd drum magazine as fast as humanly possible, besides the 7.62x39mm cartridge is cheap, effective enough for it's intended purpose & it is fairly abundant these days. Granted the above suggestions wouldn't be the best solution for everyone's needs but that is probably the route I would take if I was going to prepare/equip/arm my family for an extreme "end of the world" type survival scenario with that particular budget limit..

Oh yea I forgot about that one, also the firearm specialist chick also has her own personal revolver, she can only draw & fire it if her "fury" meter is full though. Anyway at first since ammunition was so scarce I mostly reserved my precious ammunition for engagements with those other armed & hostile survivor groups, well that is until I got the blue-print thingamajiggs that allowed me to use workbenches to reload my own ammunition. The body count got even higher after I found the blue-prints to make those homemade deo-bombs.

I fish out of my canoe (17' fiberglass Mohawk, it's one of the large cargo "expedition" types) quite a bit, it's a little awkward at times but I've found that those little miniture "Snoopy/Sponge Bob/Taz" etc kid fishing poles work really great in the canoe so I generally leave my other ie; longer & more expensive rods & reels in the truck.

Yea they start you out with melee weapons but as you progress through the game you start finding various revolvers, pistols, shotguns and rifles, you mostly get them from killing other survivors (the groups who are hostile to ya anyway) but there is a side mission where you loot a gunshop in the city and you can snag some fairly nice weapons off of the store racks.

I thought it was pretty fun, granted it wasn't the best game I've ever played but it was fun enough that I played through the single player campaign twice (once as the firearm specialist chick & the other time as the thrown weapon expert dude). Anyway my internet connection isn't good enough to play the online multi/co-op stuff but I will probably play though the single player campaign again eventually.

I only have a couple of electronic/holo sights, the first is an el'cheapo BSA 30mm tubed "red dot" one is on a Ruger MKII (10" barrel target model) that I slapped on there just to help with making my target aquisitions & target transitions a little quicker for the various shooting games we used to play, it works ok for it's intended purpose but I wouldn't trust it for anything other than having fun with at the range. The other is an Eotech XPS 2 that I tossed onto a 7" barreled SBR'd AR to help off-set the short sight radius, in my experience with the two different electronic/holo sights (aside from the obvious quality/durability differences) the additional 65MOA outer circle makes target aquisition & transitions even faster than the standard "red dot" does, I honestly wish that I could afford to buy a few more XPS's. As far as washing out in bright day light, I generally have to turn the BSA dot to it's brightest level & even then it will still tend to wash out at certain angles, the XPS is a whole lot better in that regard but I do still occasionally have to thumb the brightness up to compensate.

When I first transitioned over to carrying a G17 (which was about 8 years ago) it was after a decade of carrying a 1911 (Colt Combat Commander) so getting used to the different grip angle and striker trigger system took me a few range trips before my groups tightened up. I'd probably suggest taking it out a few more times and see if you can get them to tighten up with a bit more time behind the trigger.

Zimmerman Trial Updates - Ongoing
RichardR replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I just had an interesting conversation about this very topic with my sister-in-law (she's 27 & leans liberal on most things) anyway she automatically took up the "evil white guy hunts down and kills an innocent unarmed black kid" mantra that the media played up. After explaining to her about how in reality this wasn't a racial incident (ie; Zimmerman was hispanic & that he couldn't provide a solid racial description to the police dispatcher in the tapes) her opinion seemed to change to a more reasonable one. She still thinks that the kid was some how justified in attacking Zimmerman for following him, but she did admit that if someone was violently smashing her head against concrete that she probably would have shot them in self-defense too. -
I have always enjoyed that "Box O' Truth" website, anyway while I have never loaded coins into a shotshell I can't imagine that they'd be very effective beyond a few meters, coins aren't exactly aerodynamic and would lose velocity/energy very quickly.

While the Burris Eliminator looks interesting, I really don't see any advantage in using it over a regular/standard mil-dot type recticle.

My personal "go to" long gun is a Mossberg 590A1, I keep it loaded with Federal LE reduced recoil 00 buck, I also own Mossberg 500 & a Remington 870 but I like the 590 the best out of the three. As far as the whole "but what about the limited range of shotguns" arguement, I honestly can't imagine a realistic self-defense scenario ever happening which would require engaging targets beyond the shotgun's effective reach.

I am really fond of my Taurus 85ULSS, I have owned it for at least 10 years now so I am not exactly sure how many rounds I have shot through that little .38 spl but it's alot, way more than I had ever imagined shooting though a lightweight snubnose, I think that's mostly due to the Hogue Overmold grip that is on it though, that grip makes it fairly comfortable to shoot even with +p ammunition. Anyway it's not as nice looking as my S&W 19-4 but I personally don't have any reseverations about tucking my Taurus into a pocket.

I had a baby one get into some boxes while I was moving, didn't discover the lil fella until after we had started unpacking, thankfully the airconditioning was on at the time in the house so he was kind of cold and was easy to catch.

LCR? not sure I have never owned one, but I generally pocket carry J-frames. Anyway I'll probably be taking the carry permit class as soon as I am an official Tennessee resident, as a soon to be transplant from Indiana I am pretty sure I can still lawfully carry under my Indiana LTCH (which is life-time) until I am an actual "Tennessee resident" & am required to switch over to a Tennessee permit. At least I think I'd still be lawful anyway, considering Tennessee honors Indiana's LTCH.

Howdy folks, my name is Richard & I am currently in the process of moving down from Indiana to Tennessee so I thought I would create an account here on TGO (I am a long-time member over on the INGO ie: Indiana Gun Owners forums). I am not sure if the two forums are related in anyway but on the surface they appear fairly similar in format, so the transition from INGO here to TGO shouldn't be all that difficult. Anyway I am looking forward to meeting up with some of you fellows in the Covington/Ripley area soon and spending an afternoon or two emptying some brass with ya. -R
