Yea I guess it is possbile to shoot a duck or goose or deer or what ever with a .22LR, but I suppose it is also possible to hammer a nail into a board with a pair of pliers or a socket wrench too.

Question about self defense in your home
RichardR replied to Glenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As far as I am aware there is no legal statute that forbids a homeowner from shooting an armed intruder from any particular angle (ie in the back) nor am I aware of any legal statute that mandates a homeowner must first verbally challenge an armed intruder before using deadly force. -
I usually just buy it, its not expensive & it usually only takes a single stick to get a fire going.

I have a MOE stock on my CQB rifle and it is pretty decent I guess, I use an ASP sling mount thou so the MOE not having QD mount wasnt a factor and while there is a little bit of play, there really isnt any more slop in the one I have than most other non-friction locked adjustable stocks

J-frames are one of my favorite carry pieces, granted capacity isnt all that great but I tend to shoot j-frames better than I do small framed semi-autos so I generally carry j-frames in warmer weather when I cant conceal larger framed semi-autos

Conceal Carry vs Open Carry
RichardR replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I always carry concealed, sometimes it's not deep concealment (I don't mind if I print a little) but I always try to make sure my shirt covers my weapon, I just want to go about my business & don't want any sort of hassle. -
I really like Altama's ExoSpeed II's, they are extremey comfortable, very lightweight boots with a lot of ankle support (mine are 8" high) anyway they don't seem to be as durable as my last pair of Ro-Search boots as I have been wearing these Altama's every day for the last 3 years and this will be their last season, where as the Ro-Search I wore everyday for over 20 years before they were beyond repairing. But the ExoSpeed II's are much better suited for hiking, even if they are not as heavy-duty as I'd have liked them to be.

AR fans Ck this out Must have for your rifle
RichardR replied to ted's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Interesting, not quite as bulky as Beta's & they look like they might not be as fragile, granted they don't hold as many rounds but still having 50rds availible on tap would be nice. The big Surefire magazines look sort of interesting too, just wish the pricetag on them wasn't so darn high or I'd probably own a couple of them. Anyway most of my AR magazines are USGI but the last couple of years I have been switching over to Magpul magazines, mostly because with them I don't have to worry about lip creep like I do with my aluminum USGI magazines. -
My girlfriend stumbled across this zombie game on facebook yesterday, so far it's kind of interesting, you have to build up and secure your compound, scavange for resources, fight off zombie hordes & other survivor groups, etc. I am not sure if you can ally with other players yet or not but as far as facebook games go this one has kept my interest the longest.

What sized surplus ammunition cans did Gander have for $12.99? I need a couple more .30 cans & can't find any locally.

Interesting concept, I own a lot of bolt action rifles but I don't own any bolt action rifles chambered for 5.56, so if I ever decided that I needed one I'd probably have a hard time deciding between either the Mossberg MVP (simply because it uses AR magazines) or another Remington 700 (which is my prefered bolt gun platform). I am looking forward to reading some range reports that is for sure.

Ok after a bit of research I have found a couple of shooting ranges about an hour or so from here that sound interesting, one is near Memphis, the other near Jackson. The one near Jackson is called Tennessee Sports Foundation & it is a small private range, membership cost is fairly reasonable ($50 initiation fee + $75 a year dues) but they don't host a lot of shooting events. The one near Memphis is called Memphis Sport Shooting Association & it appears to be a much larger club, membership costs are on the high-end ($400 initiation fee + $240 a year dues + $30 background check) but they offer a much wider range of events. Is anyone a member of either of these places? I am curious to learn a bit more about them before I commit to joining one or the other.

If you like the CZ83 & the Bersa Thunder you might also want to check out the Walther PPK & the Makarov, they are all very similar in the way they point & feel.
-
Yikes man sorry to hear about your new CZ failing at the Gun Sight course.
-
That's a darn fine looking pistola, I'll be looking forward to reading your range report after you get it.

I have never had the chance to play with one personally, however Gunblast did a very favorable article on them http://www.gunblast.com/Paco_WineRoses.htm

Congrats on the purchase of your new revolver Steve, it's a good looking piece, how well does it shoot?

In hotter weather I usually carry a K-framed S&W 19-4 &/or a J-framed Taurus 85ULSS with a spare HKS speedloader, I keep both loaded with .38spl Winchester 125 +p JHP. In the cooler months I usually carry either a Sig P226R DAK or a Glock 17 (both are kept loaded with Winchester 9mm 147gr JHP, one spare mag with either) with a Ruger LCP .380 (90gr Hydra-shok JHP, plus one spare mag) strapped to my ankle as a back up.

I sort of like the new Remington X-Mark Pro trigger system, IMHO they are not bad at all for a factory trigger, especially once they are broken in.
-
I don't have any photos of it at the moment, but I think we are going to do a campfire/cookout tonight & I'll take a couple pic's of it while we are out there.

I figured since I was new to the Ripley/Henning area I thought I'd drop a post to see if there were any other Ripley/Henning folks on the forums. I haven't found any local places to shoot as of yet, so any suggestions as to what ranges I should look into would be welcomed, heck I might even buy you some lunch or something.

Thanks OS, all of my knives are working knives (I do not collect them) so I am glad to hear that this one isn't some sort of collectable & that it should withstand a bit of punishment.
-
I owned a Colt Officers ACP that I was pretty fond of, carried it for about 6 years before switching over to carrying j-frames, it wasn't 100% reliable, but I only had about 3 short-strokes in the 1000 or so rds that I fired through it.

It is an expensive hobby, especially if you crash them alot like I used too.

I am not that big of a fan of the VFG's either, the only time I use one is on my CQB rifle and then it is just to keep me from gripping the magazine (it has helped in breaking me of that bad habit) while all tucked in while wearing bulky bodyarmor.
