Yup the slides on the Remington's defintely have less slop in them and the action on the Remington's do feel smoother, however the reason for that is the Mossberg's loading gate design, the slide/action on Mossberg's retracts the loading gate out of the way for easier/faster reloading & doesn't have the "pinch the thumb potential" of the Remington design. Mossbergs also have dual extractors, so it takes a bit more force when working the action to kick out the spent shell verses Remington's single extractor, making the action on the Mossbergs feel a bit more clunky. However occasionally while shooting trap/skeet with my Remington 870 I will experience an empty shell getting "stuck" in a very hot chamber, when that happens I have to shove a cleaning rod down the barrel and poke/prod the darn thing out however I haven't ever had that happen with any of my Mossbergs, I might have to rack the slide on my Mossbergs a little harder when the chamber(s) get really hot, but the spent hulls have always come right out.

I hate the ergonomics on Glocks (regardless of model or generation) but it really is hard for me to complain about how they perform, anyway I will be looking forward to reading your first range report to see how ya iike your new sidearm.

My first thought was "man I bet sharpening all of the teeth on that would take all week!"

Yea she's a pretty cool kid, only 9 years old and she can shoot better than a lot of grown men, of course she has been going to the range with me as soon as she was old enough to keep her ear-muffs on her head and has been reloading as soon as she was old enough to be able to pull the lever down all of the way, she is definately her fathers daughter, that is for sure.

My buddy has a Serbu Super Shorty based off of the Mossberg Maverick and he seems to really like his, with that sort of heavy level of customization it was difficult for me to tell what was Mossberg & what was Serbu though, I'll have to take a closer look at a Maverick next time I am in the LGS simply because IMHO there is no such thing as owning too many shotguns! LOL.
-
Yea I much prefer a standard stock on my shotguns so the Mossberg's back of the receiver safety works much better for me, however the trigger guard safety on the Maverick 88 or Remington 870 would work much better for pistol grip setups.
-
Yea the ability to swap out barrels is handy and only takes a few seconds, I am not sure about how the barrel attaches on the Maverick 88 version as I have never played with one, but on the 500 it is real easy.

We (me & my youngest daughter) made a home-made zombie target last weekend and had a lot of fun blasting away at it with an M9, then my youngest daughter wanted to try out her medieval flail (3 spiked metal balls chained to metal handle) on it and we absolutely destroyed it within in a couple of wacks with that thing, I wish I had remembered to take some pictures because we really had an awesome time, no tannerite was involved though. It also changed my mind about how effective a melee weapon like that could be in a zombie apocolyse, considering I took the zombies head half-off with my first swing.

1.) generally they start to taper towards the end of the muzzle. 2.) not really. 3.) yes. Anyway I own two Mossberg 500's (a 12g & a 20g), a Mossberg 590A1 (12g) & a Remington 870 (12g) all use replaceable chokes except the 590A1 which is a fixed cylinder bore. For what you are looking for, a 20" for home defense & plinking the 590A1 is hard to beat, but for hunting or shooting clays I usually use a 500 ((or rarely the 870) instead.

Sounds good to me, especially since he is willing to do all of the driving, in my truck the cost of gasoline burned alone be worth almost the purchase price of the pistol LOL.

I am not a Glock fan either, I do train regularly with my G17 but I'd much prefer to carry my Sig P226, I do not have a problem with the Glock's preformance just their awful ergonomics. With regards to the deal, a 3rd Gen G30 in OD w/night sights & 6 magazines for $550 sounds like a pretty decent deal to me, and the price is decent enough that if you decide that the Glock isn't your cup O'tea you could always sell or trade it off for what you paid for it.

Help Me Find The Perfect Multitool
RichardR replied to analog_kidd's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I bought a Leatherman FreeStyle a few months back & it's easily my favorite multi-tool out of the 6 or 7 of them that I own, it doesn't have any gadgets other than a knife blade & pair of pliers but those are the two tools I use most day-to-day anyway so it's worked out really well for my EDC needs. Granted I still keep other multitools in tool, glove & tackle boxes and in bug out bags and stuff like that, but I always carry the FreeStyle clipped inside my front pocket. -
No problem man, if you are anywhere around the Henning/Ripley area you are more than welcome to put some rounds downrange with mine

Hlb14, well like I mentioned previously the DAK trigger is very smooth and consistant, it literally is more like squeezing the trigger on a finely tuned custom revolver than a factory trigger on a semi-auto, because of how smooth and consistant each stroke of the trigger is I find it to be very accurate even on the first stroke, which on traditional DA/SA pistols is much heavier and can cause the first round to be less accurate than the following SA rounds. The DAK also features a choice between two reset points, a long reset and a short reset, the long reset has a lighter weight to its stroke and I have found it to be very accurate because of the lighter weight of the stroke doesnt move the weapon off target during the squeeze, while the shorter reset is a couple of pounds heavier but allows for quicker follow-up shots

Oh I am definately going to have to get me one of those badboys!

George Zimmerman's Donations Spike on His Return to Jail
RichardR replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Posted too soon, as an example the neighborhood in which I grew up in was nice, community oriented, everyone kept up their properties, knew each other, helped out the older folks, etc. 30 years later it is now it is a more like a slum in Rawanda or something, where it is dangerous to travel through, even in broad day-light -
George Zimmerman's Donations Spike on His Return to Jail
RichardR replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My neighborhood has a self-appointed neighborhood watchman named Dennis, older gentleman, retired, friendly, always willing to lend a hand, etc, I think we are fortunate to have him around. In fact I wish I had more neighbors like him, granted I do not personally know Zimmerman but at least he was making an effort to help keep his neighborhood from going down the toliet, like so many other neighborhoods have, where the scum are allowed to run amock unchecked -
I have a P226R DAK that is easily my favorite handgun that I have ever owned, the DAK trigger system is phenominally smooth and consistant, it feels more like squeezing the trigger of a finely tuned custom revolver than it does a factory semi-auto trigger, granted you said DA/SA but the DAK trigger is definately an improvement, at least IMHO.

I havent seen the Zippo survival lighters yet, thanks for the heads up gjohnsoniv, I will definately look into them
-
Zippos are great lighters if you use (& refill) them regularly, I have 6 or so Zippos, along with a couple large cans of fluid and a couple of spare packs of flints, I smoke so I would go through a lot of disposable lighters if I didnt use Zippos. However I do not recommend them for someone who wants a lighter for occasional or in case of emergency/shtf use, since the Zippo isnt air-tight the fluid will evaporate even if the lighter isnt used, disposables are much better suited for stuff like that
-
Out of the two I would personally much rather have the Taurus but if the Hi-point carbine appeals to you than I say go for it, if you decide that you dont like it you could always trade it off for something else
-
Glad to hear it is back home, keep us post on how it does, I am guessing you wont have any more problems with it, every CZ I have owned has been really great guns
-
I don't like them or the hard plastic shell carriers, the only system that I have found that works for me is Speedfeed stocks, because they keep the extra shells tucked away within the stock they dont get bumped and snagged on stuff.

Yet another good reason to be vigilant...
RichardR replied to Volphin's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Goblins and orcs are very dangerous creatures young Frodo, be fearless when dealing with them, for to them, you are nothing than their next meal.
