Unfortunately my fireworks were confiscated and I was given a court date, for the offense of "lighting off fireworks on the 4th of July". And no there was no shenanigans or unsafe handling, no alcohol, nothing taudry, just some good ole' fashioned fireworks and BBQ, heck I even had a hose sitting right next to us with the water already turned on just in case one of them started to smolder the grass, which I had already hosed down prior to bringing out the fireworks... Sort of made me wonder if those tin-foil hatters might actually be right.

Well if the recovered stolen firearms are indeed being destroyed and none of them are being returned to their rightful owners then IMHO the programs need to be shut down. I would be pretty pissed and would probably sue the department responsible if I learned that some of my stolen property had been recovered & destroyed without me being notified and given the opportunaty to reclaim it.
-
Nothing wrong with my reasoning, there are a lot of folks that for one reason or another want a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms, would you rather those firearms be tossed in the nearest dumpster? As a tax payer I dont mind these sorts of programs, so long as any stolen firearms that are recovered in a buy back are returned to their lawful owners and not just destroyed.

Well unfortunately the outlook is not good if A.) You are out hunting alone & B.) all you have is a single shot rifle and you find yourself in a situation where some moron is keeping you pinned down with heavy suppressive fire while another moron flanks your position. Depending on how quickly the first moron is blowing through his magazine, how accurate the incoming rounds are, and how quickly the second moron is moving, how much cover or concealment he has etc, it would be a really ####ty situation to find yourself in, maybe a second or two to respond to each of them, one shot at a time, which would have to hit its mark, egads man I sure would hope and pray for some divine intervention at that point.

Obama Surrogate Suggests Making Voting Mandatory

"Welcome to the future, where everything that is not forbidden is compulsory." -
Mike, I understand what you are saying but I am not talking about a "cut on the hand" either. Let me see if I can clarify what I was trying to say in my ealier posts, my trauma bag is also equiped to deal with other types of serious injuries, beyond what my FAK's are equiped to deal with, serious injuries such as say a compound fracture, which might not be life threatening in and of itself, unless of course it goes septic. I am also assuming that since this is the survival & preparedness forum that "just fix the infection at the hospital" might not be an option, so I've made prevention of potential infection through sterilizaiton/disinfection a priority, I also keep a small supply of wide spectrum antibiotics in my medical supplies, but I am not sure if they would be enough for say a Hurricane Katrina type event, where emergency services are interupted for weeks or God forbid even months, but they (coupled with proper sterilization/disinfection) are the best I can do at the moment. I hope that cleared up any confusion as to why I set up my trauma bag the way I did.

I made the middle dagger w/tip pointed up in 81 or 82 I think, definately not up to snuff compared to some of the stuff you guys have posted but it was a fun project none the less. It was originally intended to be a "for real" type dagger not a wall-hanger, the blade is tool steel, that has been repeatedly slammed it through car doors and other assorted tests in order to prove to my DM that a lowly dagger could easily penetrate platemail (heh) eventually I got bored with it and tossed it in an old tool box where it rusted for 30 some odd years until my youngest child discovered it & wanted to clean it up, so now it hangs on her bedroom wall, along with the rest of her "in case of zombies" arsenal.

I've always wondered about how those Seecamps shot, I have only owned a few mouseguns and most of those have been .380's or .22's, I did have a Baby Browning that was .25acp that I got a really great deal on, but it just sat in the safe and I never even bought any ammo for it, eventually I traded it off for a bunch of archery equipment back when I first started getting into bowhunting. Sorry for rambling, but I am curious as to how you would compare your Seecamps to say your LCP?

I fail to see the reasoning behind refusing to sterilize/disinfect, oh don't get me wrong there may be an emergency situation that involved heavy arterial spray that I probably wouldn't have the time to do it, but the vast majority of injuries I can think of I'd probably have the time to sterilize/disinfect/put on gloves/splatter shield/mask/etc, prior to rendering aid.

Had me worried there for a second, I was just about to run out to the patio and throw a chain & padlock around my Brinkman.

One thing that should be mentioned in a thread like this is please don't overlook some basics when piecing together a trauma kit, simple things like a bottle of 90% alcohol, antiseptic hand scrubs, latex gloves, mouth barriers/filter shields, blood spill kits, etc could mean the difference between someone living or dying, not because emergency medical treatment wasn't provided in time to save their life, but them dying later due to an easily preventable infection.

Top 5 Concealed Carry Handguns
RichardR replied to MikePapa1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have to call "shenanigans" on that list, of course it's just that one guys opinion but I still would have thought the G19 & the Ruger LCP would have been serious contenders for anyone's concealed carry handgun choices, especially the LCP, seeing as how they literally disappear when tossed in a pocket or are strapped to an ankle. -
I am an avid paddler too, as a matter of fact I am about to hit the water as soon as my girlfriend finishes her qualifying (rifle, shotgun, pistol) then we plan on spending the rest of the day on the Hatchie river. With all of the kayakers and canoers on here we should think about putting together a big floatilla or something this fall.

My EDC knife for the last 15 years or so was a Buck Odyssey, which IMHO is an absolutely fantastic knife, as a matter of fact it is probably one of my all-time favorite pocket knives, however the last few months I've been carrying a Leatherman FreeStyle, which while not quite as comfortable in my hand as my Odyssey, it is more comfortable than any of my other multi-tools (which of course have knife blades on them but they were cumbersome to open/close & uncomfortable to use for anything except for light cutting tasks &/or for short periods of time). See'ing as I had always carried a multi-tool in addition to the Odyssey, (mostly for the pliers which I tend to use quite a bit) essentially the FreeStyle makes a pretty decent compromise between the knife & multi-tool platforms, so now I am able to carry just the FreeStyle and am able to leave my other pocket knives & multi-tools at home or in high need areas such as in tackle/tool/glove/etc boxes.

I shoot way to many calibers & unfortunately .45acp didn't make the cut, so I have been selling/trading off my 1911's, however I still have Colt Combat Commander that apparently I just can't bring myself to sell or trade off, a good buddy of mine has even offered to give me twice what I paid for it, he also promised that he would never sell it to anyone except back to me if I ever wanted it back & I still can't seem to let that pistol go *sigh* it's been a really great gun over the years and is the only handgun that I have ever used to defend myself (and my family) with, so there is a bit of emotional attachment to it too I guess. And no it's not for sale so please don't ask, if I sell it to anyone it'd be to my buddy Jason.

Had the shotguns out this morning so I took a quick photo, everyone loves photos of firearms right? From top to bottom, Mossberg 590A1, Mossberg 500, Mossberg 500 (20g) Remington 870

I'd be interested in going through the course, if for nothing else but just giggles.

Picked up two cap and ball revolvers
RichardR replied to Spots's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Nice score there Spots, I love shooting BP, especially BP revolvers, if you ever decide to get rid of one or both of them let me know man! -
Well I wouldn't personally go so far as say it is the best flashlight that I've ever owned, but I will say that it certainly is the best sub $50 flashlight that I have had the pleasure of owning thus far.

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to meet any forum members in person yet, there doesn't seem to be many (if any) folks who are in my area. I am enjoying the forum though. -
I'd start by having everyone refer to me as "Lord Humongous" then I'd strap on a little leather codpiece, grab my hand crossbow, jump on my motorcycle & start scouring the area in search of juice.

Thanks Bulitt, I really like the knife so far, it sure seems like a keeper to me, having a knife that can baton really hard wood without getting torn up is going to be very nice because I banged up my Yugoslavian type 2 AKM bayonet batoning some mesquite chunks up for use in my smoker & I am guessing that that sort of abuse wouldn't have hurt this Scrapyard Scrapper at all. I shall soon find out though, as I am planning on using the smoker to smoke up some buffalo meat this weekend. Oh and sorry I forgot all about posting photos, so I snagged the camera and took a couple of snapshots real quick.

Ok so the Maverick 88's also feature the dual extractors that's good to know, I'd really like to take a closer look at one to see if the loading gate mechanism is also the same as on the 500 & 590 series as well.
