Who I ask who among us doesn't dream of being refered to as "Lord Humongus"?

HSGI makes really good stuff, I'm particularly fond of their Weesatch plate-carrier that I've been using for the last few years the quality & durability is top notch, my freedom of movement is outstanding, there is plenty of adjustments to fit just about anyone, it is extremely comfortable because all of the weight is very well dispersed (also due to the optional thickly padded shoulder pieces), the built in magazine, radio & admin pouches are all exactly where they should be, there is plenty of MOLLE space for additional gear/mag pouches (I added a couple of double sidearm magazine pouches just underneath the admin pouch, a FAK pouch on one shoulder harness, a radio on the other shoulder harness, & a large hydration carrier that sits on top of the rear plate). The Weesatch can carry an awful lot of gear so I'd suggest anyone who is planning on loading it up to capacity & is planning to be wearing all of that weight for more than a couple hours at a time to make sure to also order the optional/additional thickly padded shoulder pieces, it'll make wearing all that armor, ammo & gear for long stretches a heck of alot more comfortable. .

Meh, I once had a "Somali Special" SKS that was truely a work of (absolutely hideous) art. The original stock had been damaged beyond repair so I quickly & crudely cobbled out some "AK'ish" furnature with my handy-dandy pocket knife & a couple select pieces from my stack/cord of firewood, I secured the weapons action to the pieces of hastily cobbled, rough-hewn pistol grip & stock using strategically placed carved indentations & heavy-duty dryer hose clamps & believe it or not the darn thing was as solid as a rock when I got those clamps tightened down as tight as possible & the freaking thing actually shot great! Oh it was a sight to behold though, it was a serious (WTF!) "head turner" at the range LOL, I'll have to see if I can find any old photos of that monstrosity ...

My Civil War Rifle odyssey (UPDATE AT BOTTOM)
RichardR replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
That is awesome Tanker! Congrats man that was a heck of an "accidental" score! LOL. Very cool piece, definately heirloom worthy ... -
Unfortunately this sort of thing (especially when the plating starts to peel & flake off) is why I refuse to ever buy a nickle-plated firearm, they look great right from the factory but the plating just doesn't hold up very well under any sort of regular use. That spot will continue to worsen with time (iffin it's doing more than just sitting in a safe) once it starts getting real bad sand-blasting it & either replating or blueing it is really the only thing you can do.

I'd happily purchase him a one-way ticket anywhere in the world he'd like to go, so long as he contractually agrees that under penalty of being punched in his face with the claw end of a framing hammer to never return to the USA ... never, ever & forever. -
My #%&$@ Spike's Tactical AR
RichardR replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I'm viewing the photo on a phone, but it looks like the ramp's profile needs to be slightly re-profiled, I'd suggest paying an experienced Smith to do the work, it shouldn't take but a few minutes to correct so I doubt they'd charge you alot. -
It could just be some crud has built up under the extractor, I use plastic (make sure that they are hooked w/a sharp point) dental picks & Hoppe's #9 to get them cleaned out real good, once it's cleaned you should be able to determine if it is actually chipped & needs replaced or not.
-
I might be interested man, could you also send me copies of the photos & the GIA details?
-
It really depends on your "hold" & on the "load" - you'll want to try a few different bullet weights & velocities to see which ones shoot low/high or dead on at various ranges with your particular "hold".
-
Welp since the values on these have shot up so high I guess that I need to update the approximate replacement value for insurance purposes, and since there is some discrepancy in the GB adds, what do ya'all think would be an accurate approx replacement value to put on it? It has been well maintained & is in great shape, easily a 95% it also has a Wiegand Combat "no-drill" picatinny rail mount & an el'cheapo $50 red-dot sitting on top of it, as well as the factory Ruger plastic case & original paperwork. And no it's not for sale (or trade) so please don't ask.

Agreed, it looks like the SPS Tactical action/barrel that the factory Hogue Overmold stock was swapped out for a SPS Varmint stock. Anyway those SPS Tacticals w/the 20" bull barrels are da'shiznit, very accurate, mine prefers 168gr BTHP Black Hill's match, but it also clover-leafs the inexpensive 150gr SP Winchester Whitebox stuff... granted the bull barrels are a bit on the heavy side compared to thinner profiled barrels but the shorter OAL makes them a handy size for use in thick brush country & the bull barrel helps keep any potential POA/POI "stringing" to a minimal even after getting hot from sustained firing. Anyway I've got 8 bolt action rifles of various makes & calibers, but my SPS Tactical see's the most range/field time, followed closely by my CZ 452 American (mostly because .22LR is a lot cheaper than .308 is to shoot).
-
With a limited budget to work with I'd probably lean towards a lever action rifle coupled with a revolver with both of them chambered in the same caliber. .308 isn't exactly cheap anymore, so the cost savings you'd get with a less expensive ammunition & by having zero extra magazines needed by going with say a lever action rifle chambered in .38spl/.357mag the savings would/could/should essentially pay for a good used revolver.

The quality & accuracy of the Uberti's I have fondled & fired (I have never actually owned one) have all been pretty decent, especially for their price-point. I've always paid a bit more for Ruger models simply because of potential part availibility problems with Uberti. However that previous potential concern seems to had been unfounded & I probably wouldn't hesitate to buy an Uberti if I was in the market for another reproduction revolver.

I was browsing gun broker & noticed that the prices on these have sky-rocketed, are they really selling for $1000-$1200 these days? Don't get me wrong I absolutely adore the one I own & I would need to be desperate for money to sell it even for $1200 but I am curious as to why the hyper-inflated markup on these, granted they are extremely accurate and fun to shoot, but I was wondering if this particular model (10" bull barrel in stainless) really rare? or really desireable? Or something else?

There is absolutely no one on this planet who has any authority to forcefully stick anything in any of my orifaces - period.

I don't understand how lawfully exercizing your Constitutional Rights is "looking for a confrontation".

More Homeland Security Weapons and Taxpayer dollars
RichardR replied to bersaguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Meh, they are probably for anyone who tries to protest Obama's 3rd term :) -
Yea, Constitutional Rights aren't really "rights" anymore if they've become nothing more than pay-to-play privilages that are constantly under threat of being further restricted, purposely mis-interpreted &/or even being out-right revoked. I sure wish that all of the folks who have sworn to uphold & defend would actually freaking do so ...

Open carry of long guns is completely lawful (other than felons/DVconvicts) where I come from, even in downtown Indianapolis it is not uncommon to see groups of 2nd Amendment supporters with slung AR's sporting loaded magazines. And as far as I'm aware there has never been any shooting incidents, accidental or otherwise involving "lawfully" carried long guns. Anyway according to the stastics far more of our fellow Americans are murdered every year with completely unrestricted "ie: lawful" baseball bats & hammers ... neither of which are considered inherently dangerous, but are infact quite deadly when the person holding them chooses them to be. Why firearms are viewed differently has IMHO everything to do with an irrational fear & not logic or reason (or the Constitution).

One day white folk are going to get real tired of all of this name-calling & finger-pointing ...
-
Nope, I have never named any of my firearms just like I've never named any of my chainsaws, drills, screwdrivers or ratchets.
