1.
This one is not going any where. I plan to wear the finish off carrying it before it gets passed on when I am too old and feable to carry it safely. lol
I can't think of a better heirloom to pass down, that is for sure!
2.
You got rid of an "O" Model???? For shame.
Yea I really didn't want to get rid of it, I absolutely loved that little Colt, but the fellow just kept adding and adding and adding to his trade offer until I would have been stupid to have said "thanks, but no thanks". I do still have it's matching big brother though, a Colt Combat Commander, but it doesn't look quite the same in the case all by itself now, I had really hoped to haved eventiually passed them down as a paired set to my oldest son but like I said, I just couldn't pass up that guy's overly generous offer.
3. I switched to Altama boots years ago & won't ever go back to Redwings.
4. Yup I tend to agree with Ron Paul, shame more folks couldn't or wouldn't back the man (or at least his ideals), regardless of what anyone else thinks I believe that he would have made a damn fine POTUS.
5. Impeachment won't happen regardless of what wrong doing is uncovered, they (the hardcore leftists) have too much support & too much power now. This nation is well on it's way to becoming a one-party system, at least nationally, for the foreseeable future, at least IMHO.
6. If both are in equal condition, they should be fairly close in value, I'd say it really depended on finding the right buyers, for instance I would probably give a hundred or so more for the SP1 than I would the HBAR just because it is more practical for certain applications I would want it for, while someone else who is interested in getting into shooting in a smallbore league might pay a bit more for the HBAR.
7.
I've been stuck on this same fence about Arsenal vs Saiga vs WASR now for a few months. I really want to add an AK to the mix but I don't know enough about them to make a decision I feel good about one way or the other. In on this thread for more info...
There are a lot of AK variants out there, what sort of budget are you working with? What is the rifles intended purpose? (Range toy? SD/HD? Collection piece?) & what sort of configuration are you wanting? Ie folding or fixed stock? Wood or poly furniture? Etc. If you are a bit more specific I am sure either myself or someone else could help point you in the right direction.
8. There are advantages and disadvantages to each, but I will say this, if you ever do some night time force on force training and you'll understand why I no longer use weapon lights on any of my weapons. I have learned that stealth is the key to surviving/winning low/no light gun fights.
9. My guess, given this administrations track record of pushing wedge issues that they know will be divisive along race, gender, class, etc, that they might welcome this sort of reaction. As a divided America is a weakened America.
10. That is a beautiful rifle GS, shame about the troubles, keep us posted on the progress & I for one will be looking forward to seeing a range report when you get all of the kinks worked out.
11. I don't like side saddles at all, speedfeed stocks on the other hand are great, and it looks like you've already got that covered. As far as sights I prefer ghost ring, but if you are not capable of brazing on (or can't afford to have someone do it for you) the front sight post then I'd probably suggest going with a rugged holo/reflex sight like an Eotech or an Aimpoint or a Trijicon or something.
12. I would recommend a 20 or 410 gauge that feeds every time long before I would recommend these pint-sized shells that only feed half the time, especially since you don't already own a 12 gauge that you are looking to "tame" so to speak. Also if your wife is really recoil sensitive, but you really want her to be able to shoot a shotgun, you might consider a Knoxx recoil reducing stock in addition to getting a smaller gauged shotgun. However most everyone should be able to shoot a 410 with absolutley no difficulties what so ever, I was 6 years old when I got my first 410 shotgun and I had no trouble even at that young of age.
13. Has anyone ever heard of the term "agent provocateur?" If you haven't I would suggest educating yourself on the topic.
14.
Not selling this one. I sold my double barrel 20 gauge a few years ago and kicking myself still. Just thinking about "updating" it. After online searching, I'm thinking I will get another. Two picked out now. Remington 870 (#5077) or a Mossberg 500 (#50780).
I went into details about some of the differences between the Remington & Mossberg shotgun designs in a thread over in handgun carry / self defense section of the forum (I cannot link to it from my phone) so if you are interested in reading up on some of the differences between the two designs you might find it interesting.
15. Nothing is going to be done about it & the same tactics will be used again & again until this nation is a one-party system. Which is their ultimate goal.
16. Smoked turkey. Things you will need: turkey, turkey injector, stick of butter, turkey thermometer, a charcoal smoker, hickory wood chips, charcoal, water pan, matches. Instructions: defrost turkey, melt stick of butter, inject melted stick of butter into turkey, stick therometer deep into turkey breast, start smoker, add pan of water to first rack nearest coals, add turkey to top rack farthest from the coals, get smoker up to temp, add hickory chips, allow turkey to smoke until thermometer says turkey is done, add more hickory chips as needed. Takes a couple of hours but it makes the juiciest, most flavorful bird I have ever tasted, I won't ever go back to frying or baking or rotissery'ing a turkey ever again.
17.
I did not realize you could swap the barrels on the lower end guns like these. I guess I figured that was only on higher end specialty guns. Now I am really interested in one.
Yup, you can even buy a blackpowder barrel for Mossberg 500's and use it during muzzle loading season too.
18. I have voted in every election since I turned 18, at least up until this last one in which I sat on the couch nursing some herniated disks, had I known earlier I could have mailed in a ballot but I was injured after the deadline so it was "in person or no vote".
19. I would use a cotton cloth & semi-chrome polish, should take that right off without scaring up the gun
20. *sigh* beautiful, absolutely beautiful, sort of reminds me of of my Colt Officer ACP, congrats man she sounds like a keeper, don't make the same mistake that I did and trade er off!
21.
@RichardR - Thanks for the detailed information. That really helps. I have seen the Mossbergs @ Mavericks on the trading boards and am really considering them. @ everyone - Will these guns do a good job at shooting clays? Just curious. If anyone feels that they are not, that's fine, I would like to know why or why not if possible. Again, thanks for all the help.
You'll want a 24" for skeet & a 28" barrel for trap shooting, at least those are the barrel lengths I prefer to use. There are plenty of aftermarket barrels for both the Mossberg & Remingtons lines and they are fairly cheap, super easy to swap so you can have say a Mossberg 500 with an 18" barrel on it for HD, swap a 24" on it for shooting skeet, squirrels or rabbits, swap a rifled slug barrel on it for deer season, then. 28" for trap or turkey or ducks or geese, etc. Shotguns are extremely versitile in that regard.
22. I own a number of pump action shotguns, my favorite however is my Mossberg 590A1 chambered in 12g, it features a 20" barrel, speed feed stock, ghost ring sights, loaded with 9 (+4) Federal LE 00 buckshot it is my go to SHTF long gun. I also own a couple of Mossberg 500's in both 12 & 20 gauges, the 20g are nice for smaller framed folks since the recoil isn't as punishing, the energy delivered to the target is of course less than the 12g versions but 20g 00 buck is still more than enough to remove any/all uninvited guests from your home if need be. I also own & have owned Remington 870's in both the Wingmaster & Express variants, which are definately decent choices for hunting &/or HD but there are many reasons why I like Mossberg shotguns over Remington. First and foremost is Mossberg's loading gate design, the always up gate on Mossbergs allows for quicker/easier reloading with absolutely zero thumb pinch potential, which is very important IMHO if reloading "under duress". Next would be the Mossbergs dual extractors vs Remingtons single, generally this isn't an issue until the shotguns get hot &/or dirty, but I have been forced to stick a cleaning rod down a barrel & hammer out stuck shell hulls out of my Remingtons, that has never happened in any of my Mossbergs, a hard yank always clears the stuck hull, while the single extractor on the Remingtons will sometimes rip the rim of the brass, thus requiring the use of a rod to clear. Third would be the location of the safety, since I favor standerd stocked shotguns the tang mounted safety on the Mossbergs is quicker and easier to manipulate, no need to break grip to engage or disingage. Fourth would be the location of the slide release, again it is quicker and easier to engage on Mossbergs without breaking grip. Anyway I wouldn't feel undergunned with my 870 in an emergency type situation or anything, I would just prefer to have a Mossberg in my hands. As far as Winchester 1200/1300, I too have had one "come apart" so to speak on me, the welds on the action bars broke! This was years ago but the shotgun was only a couple of months old, I haven't touched one since. Sorry but I don't have enough first hand experience with Maverick 88 or Charles Daley or H&R Pardner to comment on those.
23. G17's are my favorite model of Glock, granted they are "full sized" but they can be concealed with the proper holster & attire if you wanted to EDC one.
24. Shoulder holsterss are handy at times, it gives you another carry option in addition to the usual waist, ankle or pocket, anyway I have had a few over the years and the only one that I have actually liked is an old Jackass Leather rig, which used to be Galco Leather before they changed their name. Their Miami Classic rig looks to be very close if not exact to the old one that I have so if I was looking for a replacement that is the one I would buy.
25. The problem is that rational people are not the ones who riot.
