I own a pair of Gamo spring-piston .177 air rifles, velocity is about 1000fps w/lead hunting pellets, they are very accurate out to about 40 meters, deadly to small game within that range & comparitively quiet, but they are not exactly silent either. I have owned a number of different types of pellet rifles over the years from gas to pneumatic to springers & I typically get much cleaner more "humane" kills on larger racoon/ground hog sized garden pests with the spring-pistoned Gamo's. .22 cal spring-pistoned air rifles would be an even better choice for "survival" purposes IMHO as they have a bit more energy than the .177 cal ones do, only problem there is post-shtf pellet availibility, .22 cal pellets are a tad less common & a tad more expensive than .177's are.

A friend of mine has a P250 that he likes really well, in fact he uses it as a suppressor host. I actually like the long, smooth DAO trigger on the P250, it feels a lot like the DAK trigger group on my P226, which I believe was Sig's goal (to affordably replicate the DAK). There were some problems with the early release P250's but I think all of the kinks have been worked out of them, that said I do like the P2022 a bit better & if you have enough of a budget to swing the extra dough the P226R DAK is my favorite of them all.

I think there's a lot more cops that will do it than will admit publicly and I think there's a lot more people that will turn their guns in than will admit it. Another thing to think about is that if a cop refuses, about all he stands to loose is his job. If the military is called upon to do this and refuses, they can face a court martial.

Look a Katrina. Did you hear of any LE refusing to confisate guns? As far as I know all that was given that order followed it.

Agreed. But let's hope & pray that the day never comes in which we find out for certain.

I have a couple made by a company called KWA. KWA makes a highend line called PTP (professional training pistol) & PTW (professional training weapon) they of course are more expensive than the typical toy/hobby type stuff, but they are as close to their real firearm counter-parts as they can be w/out firing live cartridges. PTP/PTW airsoft stuff is over-kill for backyard/recreational use but anyone thinking of using airsoft for force on force training should look into them.

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="BrasilNuts" data-cid="866000" data-time="1356179524">
It's because they're tracking you.

My guess would be one of the online shopping sites like Amazon or Google turned on my GPS location somehow, as I was doing some online shopping/browsing just prior to it turning itself on. Problem is that I can't turn it off, so I might have to do a factory restore or something *grrrrrr*.

"No-Refusal" checkpoints throughout Tennessee this holiday season
RichardR replied to a topic in General Chat
I don't like drunk drivers, I wholeheartedly agree that they are a danger to everyone on the road. But in the same token, I also do not like check points, where the 4th Amendment is in essence "suspended" in the name of public safety. Drunk drivers are a threat to our health/lives, while the check points are a threat to our liberties, I guess it boils down to which do you value more? Your safety? Or your liberty? -
Neato, I wonder if Santa could fit one of those down my chimney?

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Dolomite_supafly" data-cid="865938" data-time="1356150765">
Huh???

I am talking about driving drunk on a public road. If you are doing that then you should loose that priviledge. And that has nothing to do with rights as driving on a public road is a priviledge, not a right.

Dolomite

An Avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself. –Thomas Paine -

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="vontar" data-cid="865912" data-time="1356148698">
Plus what is the replacement cost to restock that AR in the future?

That is the main problem IMHO, we simply don't know yet what (if any) legislation is going to pass or what will happen w/regards to the market. It could be very, very expensive in the future to own a firearm, whether through taxation, regulation or even the government requiring a large amount of "insurance" in order for someone to own a firearm. -

.308 is a great cartridge, as is 5.56 but I think that the .270 or .243 make for a better "all around" hunting cartridge at least here in the lower 48.

*shrug* I am more curious as to why the GPS location thingy on my phone turned itself on a few minutes ago & cannot be turned off in my phones settings menu ...

Who is out shopping tonight, what are you carrying?

G17, two spare mags in a Jackass rig under my coat. Locals are acting a bit loco lately, not sure what or why but folks seem awful restless for some reason. -
When is it going to be OK to sale mags,ammo,and ARs for the going rate?

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="swim615" data-cid="865804" data-time="1356142647">
If you are trading say hi cap mags (possible band items) for a revolver(or other items not on the chopping block) do you base your prices before all the hubub or current prices weather higher or lower? :ugh:

Well that would have to be determined by the parties involved. I consider magazines to be "disposable" so I would be very unlikely to pay premium prices for them, regardless of any legislation. -

*shrug* it is your stuff, sell or don't sell it is completely up to you. Personally I don't buy/sell during bubbles, although it is tempting I would rather trade stuff I no longer want or need for things I do want or need, leaving money completely out of the transaction if possible. Hopefully this bubble will be short & prices will go back to normal, until then its up to you what you do with your own property. -

You have the right to be stopped & searched, at any time, at any place, for any reason. If you are innocent, you should have nothing to fear. All joking aside though, I fear that another large scale domestic terrorist incident will slide us down into that very deep & very dark abyss, the worst part of it will be that "We the People" will be the ones who demand it, mistakenly thinking it will help to keep us safe. These random check points are one thing, a check point on every street corner is another, baby steps to goose stepping so to speak. -
I thought it was a good speech, aside from the video game / movie stuff, which I do not think causes a person to commit acts that they were not already inclined to commit.

Just musing a bit on what our Founding Fathers would have thought, not really looking for arguements, just a bit of discussion of where we (as a nation) have been, are at, and are currently on the path to). -

Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. –Daniel Webster (1782-1852) -

I wonder what George Washington or Thomas Jefferson would think. -
I am not a "gun rights advocate" I am just an ordinary average guy who enjoys recreational shooting sports. That includes everything from toy guns that shoot Nerf darts to the much maligned "modern sporting rifle" and everything inbetween. No I don't NEED a modern sporting rifle, but I also don't NEED some wanna-be tyrants continually chipping away at what little Constitutional freedoms I have left because they have an irrational fear of certain types of inanimate objects.

I guess you could put one on it if you really wanted too, but you shouldn't need it. My 20" HBAR is the smoothest, softest recoiling centerfire rifle that I own. -
Recently discovered Chinese Type 56 SKS rifles
RichardR replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I thought they were over priced at $69 a pop, but that's just my opinion, don't even get me started on what I think of Mosins... Anyway the best imported surplus rifles are IMHO straight pull Schmidt-Rubin's & Lee-Enfields, unfortunately they aren't as common as they used to be, but if you look around you can still find them at decent prices, definately would rather have either of those two if they were found in that same price range as those Yugos.
