  1. Yup I like Bushnell Banners, especially the Dusk to Dawn series, but I use mine for hunting, not target shooting. Great hunting scopes though.
  2. I use some cheap electronic muffs that I bought several pair of from a hardware store years ago, not sure of the brand as they have no markings on them. They work good at suppressing sound, there is some static when the wind blows across the mic's, and I have to occasionally fidget with the battery to get the batteries to seat properly, however the sound reduction on them is good, the electronic noise inhibitor works, you can carry on a conversation with them on your head and they are fully adjustable to fit my large melon all the way down to fit my youngest kid. Anyway I think most hardware stores carry working man's stuff like that, without the shooting sports store premium prices that we often get gouged with due to our hobby being so expensive. I can also wear gel/foam plugs with those electronic muffs, which is a must when I am firing a SBR 5.56, those things are about as loud as loud gets! & even with both the muffs & plugs my ears still ring for a couple hours afterwards LOL.
  3. Just a heads up for anyone thinking about getting a spring-piston air rifle, you CANNOT put a regular rifle scope on them, they will destroy even the most expensive well made scope, due to the way the recoil jimmies back/forth. You have to use a scope specifically designed to withstand the spring-piston recoil, I personally use "Powerline" 3-9x 40mm scopes, which are gawd awful scopes comparitively speaking but they are designed to handle the recoil, and at the ranges an air rifle is capable they work good enough.
  4. Some good suggestions so far, really would depend on what he's got budgeted though & I usually don't recommend fixed power scopes for any intended ranges closer than 400-500 yards because of their more limited FOV. Anyway I just thought of another good entry level scope, the Burris 4.5-14x 42mm runs about $100 more than the Nikon Prostaff 4-12x 40mm but I like Burris recticles a little better than Nikon's. If you get the chance stop at a shop or sporting goods counter & ask to look through a couple, make sure to check things like eye relief, clarity at full-magnification, style of recticle, etc before plopping down the coin for one. If you were closer I'd be happy to let you peep through some of mine to see which ones you'd like but maybe one of these other guys who live closer will hook you up.
  5. I personally think that the money would be better spent simply buying more 12g ammo, than on multi-caliber adapters that would be of "at best" questionable accuracy, and very limited utility. Sort of a neat idea but the main strength of a shotgun is it's ability to "cast out a wide net" of lead, they are not designed for precision, neither are those adaptors & a singular projectile has to be accurate for it to be worth sending down-range, otherwise you are just wasting resources.
  6. Well FB was the best way to keep in contact with my oldest boy while he was deployed, so that is what prompted me to start using it. Then of course my other kids, who all but one are all grown & starting families of their own, none of which seems to remember how to dial a telephone anymore, let alone sit & actually put pen to paper in order to write a proper letter. FB has it's good points I suppose, but I was not a happy camper to have "black liberation theology" advertisments show up on my page, I am assuming that black folks would have been just as unhappy if it'd been a KKK advertisement showing up on their page. But then again we all know that would have never happened, because that would had been "racist" or something.
  7. That's what I've heard, I had no idea who/what they were until after I received this one as part of a trade deal, I usually am pretty hard on tools so I almost think of them as "disposable items" once they've hit the end of their usefulness I just toss them & get another, knives included. I've been pretty rough on this Scrapper, even used it to cut through the exhaust hangers on my truck because I didn't feel like getting out from under it to go fetch some tin-snips, I was surprised at how quick & easy it cut through them & how the edge was still just as sharp as it was when I took it out of the sheath. I've been very pleased with it so far, I'd definately buy another one if this one is ever lost or stolen.
  8. I'll have to tinker with the settings & see if I can cut down on some of the nonsense that comes up on my screen, sucks to hace to scroll & scroll through a bunch of garbage to find stuff that I actually want to see, like pictures of my grandkids etc.
  9. Yup that's the same as the adversment. It had over a thousand "likes" when I saw it.
  10. Unfortunately FB is the easiest way for me to keep in contact with family & friends, else I'd also have deleted it out of disgust for some of the ultra-assinine liberal spew that is constantly posted on there. And don't get me started on all of the inspirational quote posters people seem to spam constantly .... GGRRRRR
  11. Did anyone else get the FB advertisement for black theology? For those of you who don't know what black theology is it is essentially a new name for the tired old "black power, hate whitey, we are still being oppressed" nonsense that folks like Rev. Wright spew from the pulpit under the guise of religious teachings. Personally I'm appalled that FB would promote this crap, but hey I guess racism is ok, so long as it isn't white folks who are the ones being racist.
  12. I was looking at that, my youngest daughter is into martial arts & I told her if she gets her "black belt" I'd buy her a sword, a real sword not a decorative sword, something like that Swamp Rat might be the perfect size for her.
  13. Understood, I'm also in a similar position, how a knife fits/feels in my hand is just as if not more important than the steel it's made out of. That said my "hard-use" knife is a Scrapyard Scrapper 5, the resiprene c mudder handle on it really feels/fits in my hand great, doesn't slip even when wet or bloody & the steel is SR101 which I really like a lot, keeps it's edge really well, plus sharpens backup easily when it finally does, no downsides to it other than it corrodes easily so I have to run the edge into a beewax candle a couple times before putting it back in the sheath. Since I use it for butchering game & for food prep when out on the trail I don't use Rem Oil or any petro-based chems on that one like I do some of my knives, hence the edible wax treatment on the edge, the rest of the knife blade is coated so only the edge needs to be protected from corrosion.
  14. Some folks don't like Cold Steel because of their "mall ninja" advertising, other folks don't like Cold Steel because they copy/rip off other knife makers designs. Most folks will however agree that Cold Steel does make mostly decent products, that are sold for mostly decent prices.
  15. Welcome to TGO Jessirae, fine group of folks on these forums, I am sure that you'll fit right in. I am not near Pleasent View or I'd offer up some of our firearms for you to try out, but I am certain that there will be another TGO'er closer to you who can help you out. The list of potentials looks good on this end, I am personally partial to Sig's but any/all of those would work just fine.
  16. 1830 Napoleon Saber looks pretty badassed, I could definately see myself swinging that thing around inside a coffee shop screaming "WHERE IS MY CROISSANT!!! I ORDERED A CROISSANT!"
  17. Welcome to TGO Kopis, I don't get down to Memphis very often but if I get a Sunday free sometime I might stop out & put a few rounds down-range with you.
  18. Nikon 4-12x 40mm Prostaff is a good entry level scope, they run about $200 & should be plenty of magnification for 100-250yds.
  19. No bee's for you Garufa, you have your own personal Predator drone keeping an eye on you!
  20. Dogs are great tools, but they are not "infallible witnesses" & as such they IMHO should never be considered reliable enough to invalidate a citizen's Constitutional protections. There needs to be more than "the dog alerted on something" prior to a person's person, home, papers & things being gone through by agents of the State. My dog is trained to bark on command, as a matter of fact any dog can be trained to bark or scratch or whine on command, that should tell you right there how easy that 4th Amendment can be breached. Now we have to worry about an officer, looking through a magnifying glass watching a honey bee flick its tounge in/out to determine if we have any privacy rights to the stuff that is in our pockets or not. *sigh* ...
  21. It's more than just mocking though Links. He's attempting to use his celebrity to influence policy, in an effort to diminish even more of our quickly vanishing freedoms. Some folks just don't find any humor in that.
  22. I enjoy the conversations that I have with my fellow TGO'ers, I don't always agree with some of the folks on here but those disagreements have always been civil, unlike some other forums where folks can & do take disagreements personally.
  23. Yup & among them is the 2nd Amendment, which apparently he is personally pushing to have removed or at least further "infringed" upon. I sorta kind of like freedom & personally I'd like to have more, not less of it.
  24. I personally have no qualms with you or your viewpoint on stuff Link, but this post is sort of like the Pot & the Kettle.
