  1. I've used a pair of Motorola GMRS/FRS handsets for 10+ years, they've taken a lot of abuse & have reliably slogged through some of the nastiest weather imaginable without any issues other than water damage washing out part of the display screen. Anyway be prepared to be disappointed with the advertised 30 mile range BS, in real-life use range is limited, on one of the 1-watt GMRS channels they are good for about 2 miles in wooded or urban areas, on one of the .5-watt FRS channels it's about a mile range max, even less in hilly/mountianous areas where the earth itself blocks LOS (line of sight). If you get a pair, get a pair that can both be recharged as well as replace the rechargeable pack out to accept/take regular AA batteries, not only is it a hassle to recharge out in the field, much easier & quicker to slap fresh batteries in & keep moving, besides once the internal/non-replaceable rechargeable packs go bad, you end up with a junk drawer full of dead but otherwise good radio sets like my BIL. The rechargeable pack on my Motorola's died after about 2 years of regular use, so I've been using AA's in them exclusively now for the last 8-9 years. Anyway a couple of other things I've learned is never use VOX (voice activated), always stick with PTT (push to talk), VOX is annoying to everyone else on the channel, especially if you've got a large group of people trying to communicate on the same channel & radio discipline with that much traffic is hard enough to keep up with as it is, without having to hear off-radio conversations, coughing, wind, etc and stuff. Also subchannels & "privacy modes" are not the same thing as "secure comms" even radios with model specific encryption modes like some Motorola radios use can be easily picked up by other Motorola'swhich have the active channel scanning feature, but granted they are a bit more private than CB comms are. Anyway all I can think of at the moment, g'luck Spots.
  2. Doesn't make sense to me (Not your comments, the scenario itself). It's common knowledge that Senators don't open their own mail, staffers & interns do, also after the anthrax scare all public official mail is screened for exactly this sort of thing, not to mention that ricin must be injected or injested, simple "exposure" isn't deadly, or even all that dangerous. Surely someone smart enough to manufacture ricin would be aware of all of the above, I know all of that stuff but I am barely capable of making rice-crispy treats let alone a deadly chemical/poison compound.
  3. I use sonar to determine water temps, depths, locate underwater structures, deep holes & even schools of fishies. A good sonar unit is worth it's weight in gold (fishies) especially if you are fishing waters your not fammiliar with.
  4. Very sad day, I hope they catch who ever is responsible. I do predict/fear that there will be further legislation passed, to limit even more of our freedoms because of this attack though, probably targeting things like tannerite, black & smokeless powders etc. Hard to say if it was false flag op or not, but the timing & materials used seem very suspicious ...
  5. Egg bound is when a hen has an egg "stuck" in her, best way to deal with this is to calmly put her on your lap, pet her like a kitten til she relaxes enough to start "purrring" then gently message her belly, slowly & gently moving the lump/egg into the correct position (small end of egg facing toward rear). The trick is to keep the chicken relaxed & calm and eventually she'll lay that egg right in your hand while you're petting her. The alternatives are take her to a vet or butcher her for supper.
  6. It has always been about "bread & circuses" & it will always be about them. We like to think that we've evolved but we really haven't we are still the same creatures of habit that we've always been. Easily enslaved, so long as we are kept fed & entertained, we don't seem to mind..
  7. When I was in school Atlas Shrugged, Animal farm & 1984 were required reading material, of course the Cold War was still going on & we hadn't yet lost ...
  8. Yea they should be fine as long as it doesn't drop below freezing.
  9. It is very unfortunate, extremely saddening & more than just a little scary that the leadership of the Tennessee Sheriff Association were seemingly very eager to violate of their sacred oaths to uphold & defend the Constitution in order to prevent these "stolen freedoms" from being restored.
  10. I've been using Magpul's slings for years, they are hard to beat for quality, comfort, ease of use, adaptability/adjustability/useability & durability, at least at their price point.
  11. You should get the GRS (ghost ring sights) instead of the heatshield, Mossberg GRS's are very good, probably the best upgrade to have on a 500/590 models besides maybe the 8+1 rd tube. G'luck on your search, I'll keep my eyes open for ya.
  12. Well I had a "census" worker come to my house today & asked me & my ol'lady a bunch of personal questions, she said we were required by law to answer all of them. I said but isn't the census only once every 10 years, never heard of anything like this before, she said this was "the long form version" whatever the hell that means. Anyway the questions were sort of spooky the amount of information that "we were required by law" to give, the sort of personal info which should be no concern to a government anyway, more private investigator / FBI sort of questions IMHO. I almost told her to F-off because none of any of that is any of her business, but I didn't want any hassless, got enough stuff to deal with at the moment ...
  13. Welcome to TGO John, lots of good folks on this forum.
  14. Yea, I've kept both digital & written copies of the reciepts, serial numbers & photographs of everything of value that I own (not just firearms), just in case of fire or theft, sad that we have to do things like this but it is the only way to catch a criminal(s), recover stolen items &/or get an insurence company to reimburse you for any losses.
  15. sorry to hear about this Bigbabysweets, from the description it was probably someone who knew the safe was there and planned in advance to take it whole, so they'd needed a dolly & a truck, two or more people to lift it into the truck. I'd start by asking the MIL who all knew about the safe & its contents ..
  16. *sigh* wonder what George Washington & Thomas Jefferson would think of a major agency of the US governmment showing such blatent disregard for our Constitutional protections?
  17. “But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” ― John Adams
  18. I'm not, while I detest how far-left socialist Europe has become it is still our largest group of allies & watching them slowly be over-run by foriegn invaders, err I mean immigrants is not soothing to me in the least. Granted it is their own faults, but soon Europe will no longer be reliable as allies, large portions of their populations will be "hostile" to us in ways not seen before. What will happen to NATO when muslims get majorities? What if a new Islamic Califate is formed not only in the middle east but all across Europe as well? Who or what will counter such a force? The Catholic Church has turned away from the sword, it no longer will stem the tides of the Muslim hordes as it has always historically done, Italy itself is awash in "millions of islamic immigrants" so the Vatican is essentially surrounded by the enemy while the new Pope washes & kisses the feet of muslim inmates?!? Seriously wtf!. They are doooomed doooooomed I tellzya!
  19. Madness. No sane person could have come up with such an assinine policy & expected it to work, any piece of metal wood or even plastic can be sharpened into a "shiv" and used as a weapon, just ask any prison guard the sort of mayhem that can be caused even in such a controled/closed population like a jail or in a prison. You're never ever going to stop "criminals" no matter how many laws you pass no matter how many police you put on the streets, all you do is disarm & hassle the good people who are law abiding family folk.
  20. It wouldn't matter if 92% of the American people wanted to discard the 2nd Amendment all together, the Rights enumerated within the Constitution are not subject to sways in popular opinion. They are "inalienable" & he would have known that had he bothered to have ever read the @#$% document, which he @#$% swore to uphold & protect when he took his @#$%'ing oath of office.
  21. Got to love folks who believe, truely believe that they KNOW what is best for everyone, and desires nothing more than to FORCE it upon them, willingly or unwillingly, doesn't matter because it is for the "greater good". Personally I think that anyone & everyone who suffers from tyrannical personality disorder syndrome should be stood, (willingly or unwillingly, it doesn't matter because it's for the "greater good") ... against a pock-marked wall.
  22. Looks like a sweet little folder, I am loving the scales & the shape of the blade, not sure if I'd want the top exposed edge sharp (is it sharpened or just contoured?) The clip looks decent & the frame lock tab looks easy to access, anyway exacly how big/small is the knife? Granted 440C doesn't get much love from knife guys mostly because it isn't a rare boutique steel or the latest/greatest alloy, but 440C makes for a decent "random task" blade, especially on such a small knife, it's really all you'd want or need.
  23. The Benelli M2/M4, Remington 1100, Mossber 930, Browning Auto-5, Saiga-12/20/410 etc, etc are all fantastic shotguns (for hunting/sporting purposes), but I've seen too many examples of each & everyone of them "fail" at some point or another, for one reason or another, enough so that I simply will not use ANY autoloading shotgun for HD.. So if you do buy one for HD my best advice is to field test the crapola out of it prior to planning to rely on it in a life/death type scenario, that is good advice for any HD/SD weapon though.
