  1. Thanks Jonnin! But I am not exactly sure how that applies to catching a bug that is already inside the "posessors" house & the "posessor" simply keeping it contained in a tall glass wine decanter ... I'll have to keep researching it prior to making a decision whether or not to take her out to the woods to release her or to keep feeding her.
  2. Yea they are literally everywhere, I usually see a lot more brown recluses than I do widows indoors though, I think it is because recluses are wandering hunter types while widows are web-tending types. I wouldn't want to be bitten by either but if I didn't have a choice I think I'd much rather be bitten by a widow.
  3. I have a cell-phone pic from when I first caught her, it shows how large she is but isn't very clear w/regards to her markings, anyway I am not sure how to upload it to here though.
  4. *shrug* no real reason Bert, other than she is extremely interesting to watch, so far she's killed & eaten a yellow jacket hornet & a medium sized wolf spider that I fed to her. I used to have a "pet" black widow of sorts a few years ago, she made her web on the passenger side mirror on my truck, with her lair being inside of the plastic housing, I used to sit in the cab of the truck & watch that one too, she was in there for the whole summer but unfortunately she came out from behind the mirror as I was tooling down the interstate @ 65mph and whoooooosh! I saw her go flying out of the corner of my eye LOL! Needless to say everyone had to enter & exit the truck from the drivers side that summer but they are very cool insects.
  5. Odd question I know but I caught a very large very beautifully marked black widow in my kitchen the other day, I was going to take her out into the woods and release her but she's kind of neat to watch so now I am curious about the legality of keeping it as a pet. And don't worry, she cannot get out of her enclosure, even with the top off, so I am not concerned with her escaping, nor am I unfamiliar with handling black widows &/or brown recluse spiders, I've grown up around them so I am experienced in catching them, handling them & relocating them back outdoors when I see them in/around the house, haven't been bit yet *knock on wood*. Anyway I didn't want to run afoul of any TN statutes, so if anyone knows, or could point me in the correct direction I'd appreciate it.
  6. They're fine for breaking in the rifle, but if you have a digital powder scale & a bit of free time I'd suggest sorting the pellets by weight, even a small difference between pellets can effect consistancy w/regards to accuracy. This will also allow you to examine each pellet for any deformaties, toss any you find.
  7. Its because the action involved in an air-rifle firing is in slow-motion so to speak when compared to firearms in general & because of their delayed expulsion of the projectile they are much more sensitive to disruption in accuracy by improper shooting technique. When the air-rifle technique is applied when shooting actual firearms, it has a positive net effect on accuracy because it reinforces the basic shooting fundementals & slows the shooters movements, most importantly the amount time of hold over on the target after the trigger is squeezed. It is hard to explain but it really does improve your accuracy over-all, even when shooting firearms that are not as "sensitive" as air-rifles. Maybe someone else can explain it better than I can ...
  8. Yea air-rifles do take a lot of break-in, good pellets & a vastly different shooting technique in order to be accurate however they are worth the effort IMHO since once you get it down it'll make you a better shooter over-all.
  9. The anticipation was worse than the actual rides, of course with all of the free booze that they poured into me at the gabling tables I probably would have accepted just about any "dare" or even "double dare" while we were in Vegas, which I think is the whole point of all of the free booze.
  10. Yea Gamo triggers are really rough right out of the box, however they are adjustable & after some useage they do start breaking in fairly nicely. There is also an inexpensive GRT replacement trigger group availible from Charlie Tuna (or something like that) if you are still unhappy with the stock Gamo trigger group.
  11. It was ok, the tec advisers got about 80% of the stuff correct, the other 20% was probably "purposely" done wrong to keep the film from becoming a bit too educational so to speak. I thought that the climax was a bit anti-climatic w/regards to Duval missing just about every shot he took, I was sort of hoping to see him actually put down a few of the bad guys instead of just firing randomly in their general direction. *shrug* it entertained me for 90 minutes or so, so mission accomplished in that respect.
  12. Century M70 build's seem to have a very good reputation in both the fixed & underfolding (AB2) versions, I have owned one of the AB2's for years and it has proven itself to be both very accurate & very reliable. When compared to my beloved Chinese Norinco/Polytech AK's it stacks up better than many other European AK variants that I've owned with only Bulgarian & Russian AK's being "better" than the Yugos, at least cosmetically not functionally which they all seem to work as intended. I've never cared much for the Romanian AK's, whether they are Century rebuilt or not, so I've always steered clear of them just because of their awful fit & finish, I'm not dogging them or anything but for a little more money you can get a decent AK so why buy bottom of the barrel? As far as canted sights? they really are a non-issue & can be fixed in a matter of just a few minutes with basic tools, magazine wobble is another non-issue so long as it is side-to-side & not front to back, experimenting with different magazines you can find a good match to your particular rifle that will help minimize any wobble. Most AK (like most firearms in general) malfunctions are typically magazine related, my favorite magazines are the ribless steel Chinese type 56, followed closely by the Bulgarian poly mags, then just about any Euro steel rib backed mags (except Romanian). I also like Pmags for range use, but I am not a fan of Thermomold or ProMag mags for even range duty. Surplus 7.62x39mm has dried up but you can still occasionally come across it at reasonable prices, I prefer it when I can find it as well as "Golden Tiger" which is a Chinese import that is very similar in performance to the old Soviet surplus stuff. Wolf isn't too bad, would put it at 3rd, easier to find but not as accurate as the boat-tailed Soviet surplus & Golden Tiger stuff. I have no experience with Tula ammo so can't comment on that, see a lot of it around the last couple of years, I am assuming its probably similar to Wolf in performance (anyone familiar with Tula?).
  13. Sweet, looking forward to reading your range report!
  14. 6.8 you're preaching to the choir here man, but we are talking about convincing "swing" voters & I just don't see an armed mmarch on Washington DC going over very well with the fence sitters, especially if there is an incident, after which the whole thing could back-fire very very badly, regardless of how noble the original intentions. I wish I had an alternative to offer but I have no idea of how to reach those folks.
  15. First handgun ever eh? Well while all of the above are decent semi-autos, I typically recommend (highly) that first-timer handgun owners get a revolver, at least to start out with. From a safety standpoint not only are they easier to determine if they are loaded/unloaded, the longer, harder DA trigger pulls make accidental/negligent discharges less likely. From a shooting standpoint, they will help you focus on the basics, making you a better pistolero' in the long-run. If a good quality revolver is simply "out of the question" take a hard look at Sig P226 with the DAK (not SRT) trigger group, you might not appreciate it right away but trust me it'll make you a much more consistant, much smoother & much more accureate shooter than the SRT (which will IMHO make you develop very sloppy shooting habits). G'luck & keep us posted.
  16. Welp I think it's a great idea in theory, it has worked for the sufferage movement, the civil rights movemment, etc, but this is one of those events that wouldn't get positive reception by local state or federal law enforcement, let alone the leftist media, I can't see an upside even if it is completely peaceful, just look at how the tea-party rally's were covered ...
  17. Agreed, but the reality of the matter is that the Constitution doesn't protect anyone from anything anymore. Well unless your gay or a minority, or better yet a gay minority.
  18. This has bad idea written all over it, DC is a liberal stronghold w/huge amounts of Home Land Security personnel - seems like a very bad idea for a bunch of right-wing folks to have an armed march in a place where the carrying of civilian firearms are so strictly vorboten. I would expect a massive armed LEO response, and any resistance to disarming & detaining of the protestors would immediately be quelled, then lauded as some sort of "mass terror attack on DC" ... Then again I am feeling a bit "glass half empty" today.
  19. He's got a lot of nice pieces that's for sure, I've a bad feeling some agency will be along shortly to confiscate them "in the order of preserving public safety" or some other such nonsense though. Or maybe I'm just being pessimistic today.
  20. “This comment has been banned under the CISPA Bill.” Thank you for your cooperation, now move along. Nothing to see here.
  21. Creeping incrementalism keeps the frog from jumping out of the pot before it is too late. Welcome to Amerika 2.0, the time for the frog to have jumped has long since passed.
  22. My CZ452 American shoots just as good as any Cooper or Annie I've had (in same traditional configuration). Mine likes Federal Gold Medal match.
  23. I'll have to withhold judgement on the new barrels on the sport-line until I'm able to get my grubby paws on one & put it through it's paces.
