LOL I am sorry, I figured everyone would be in agreement that those responsible for making this an issue are all douches. Besides the thread drift was about FISHING! Oh man do I luvz me some fishing :)

Well his definition of what a potential terrorist is probably vastly different than ours is, considering that there is a growing portion of the population on the left-side of the political aisle who believes that conservatives aka right-wing extremists, are "the real enemy" of this nation. On the other side of the coin, there are also a growing number of folks on the right-side of the political aisle who believe that people like him are "the real enemy" of this nation. Interesting times we live in, that is for sure.

Militia-minded folk are an interesting hodge-podge of ideals & ideologies, the one trait that they all seem to share in common is that they believe that they should be able to think for themselves, decide stuff for themselves & that they should be able to say whatever they like even if other people find it offensive, I know that concept sounds crazy as hell doesn't it? That is the reason why militias appeal to people who have "verboten-beliefs" such as racists, homophobes, etc, because they are allowed to belong because of the basic premise of individual freedom which drives the formation of the militia group to begin with. But that is also the reason why those militia groups are demonized, I mean how dare they be allowed to have thoughts, opinions & beliefs that I disagree with?!?! I could never be part of a group where people had any sort of non-state sanctioned thoughts ....

Good luck tossing a cast net from a kayak, I have a hard time doing it standing in a flatbottom, I guess you could find a bait shop that has live-tanks with shad for sale in it but I don't usually mess with any live bait aside from crawlers or crickets when I'm fishing from a canoe or kayak, in fact most of the time I just use lures & jigs, it simplifies things a bit in the cramped space. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Douglas, is it fast or slow moving water? Shallow or deep? Clear or muddy? Lots of inlets, outlets, oxbows? Anyway you will either have to drift fish, tie off or anchor - depending on the location, current & water conditions I usually end up doing a bit of all three during the course of the day. A good DSI sonar/gps unit is IMHO invaluable for finding (and marking) not only where the fishies are but also stuff like drops/holes, bottom composition, structures & shoals/ledges. The gps feature can save those locations to your map so you can find them again & it can also help you find your way back home if the river you are fishing is unfamiliar to you & has a lot of branches, inlets, outlets, oxbows, etc & you need to find your way back to your pickup point before dark sets. Oh that reminds me, I should mention that while canoeing & kayaking is fantastic fun (with or without fishing) paddling them up a river, especially one with a strong fast moving current is exhausting, so I usually start my trip up river & work my way down with the current to a predetermined pickup point. It is always also good to have two-way marine radios (one for you, one for the person at the pickup point) cell-phone coverage can be spotty (at least most places that I fish) & cell-phones tend to stop working when they get wet.

She's always been able to shoot pretty good scores in all 3 disciplines (handgun, shotgun & rifle) but she finally started listening to me w/regards to small changes to her shooting stances & technique, now she either shoots perfect or at least near perfect scores. I'm actually very proud of her & while I'm going to miss my model 19 at least I'll get to see the shock & surprise on her face at the range when I quietly slip out one of the .38spl's in the cylinder & replace it with a .357 magnum when she's not looking :) The hard part will be not giggling like a little kid & getting myself caught while I'm doing it.

Well said OS. :)

I have only ever used them as bait, as far as bait fish go they are the best. Around here they are pretty small, swim in big schools, are easy to net & have a nice oily flesh that really gets the scent of a baited one really far down river. But I've never tried eating them.

It was worse, I also tossed in a nice leather rig & a box of premium SD loads ... don't get me wrong, I love my wife but we are talking smooth as silk, pinned & recessed K-Framed "go-bang" goodness.

Maybe I can get visitation rights ...

My wife shot a 247 out of 250 during qualifications today, so my S&W 19-4 is now hers ... *sigh* I guess I'll be browsing the classifieds until I find me a replacement :)

OS, I never considered tossing them in the food processer & grinding them into patties, maybe just maybe if I dumped a ton of seasoning in there with them I could choke them down. Anyway I eat a lot of fish, all kinds of fish ... it's a regular staple food in our household, but I can't seem to get used to the foul-flavor of any species of carp. It doesn't matter if I fillet out all of the dark meat & mud vein, they still taste like what I'd imagine unwashed ass to taste like. :)

I've got a list here of 39 terrorist plots against the United States which have been foiled since 9/11. The one thing that they all have in common is that all of the terrorists had planned on killing as many infidels/people as possible in the name of Allah or Mohammad or Jihad or whatever twisted "do as we say or die" ideology they are attempting to spread. So yea it makes perfect sense to train our servicemen & women to think of "right-wing"extremists are the real threat, but only if the Commander in Chief of our armed forces was just pretending to be a Christian.

I've actually been thinking of tossing a shotgun in the boat & skeet shooting them as I tool up & down the river, I always seem to manage to get at least a couple that fly up and try to smack me in the face &/or land in the boat, those end up as cut bait, but they ain't anywhere as good as shad. I even tried to figure out a way to eat them, but even smoked with hickory they were pretty foul tasting. They are a serious problem regardless of what some overly sensitive asshat wants them to be called, personally I think they are a freaking plague.

It used to be legal, but that was back before Americans started using the force of government to chain their "morality" around the necks of their fellow Americans.
-
It just seems like a waste of valuable resources + training to me, as this type of scenario just doesn't seem very plausable to me. If this type of scenario was to ever materialize into the realm of plausable, the event which sparked it would be much, much more of a threat to the American People, so prehaps they should be training to prevent such an major event from sparking this sort of reaction, instead of training to deal with any resulting resistance to it.

Interesting OS, so maybe it was a NJ based case that was the one who set the precedent that the 9th Circus followed ... I am assuming that the NJ ban was challanged in & affirmed in a court right? Would you happen to know if it was decided at the State or Federal level?

The only way I'd buy the truck from your EX is if it was to hold onto until you bought it back off me, as fun as it would be to drive occasionally I already have more vehicles than I have time to enjoy. :)

Sad that the tard filled off the serial numbers on that Colt, not only did that (maybe) damage a piece of American Old West history, it also poteentially places the Colt in danger of confiscation/destruction & it's owner in danger of a potentional felony charge of defacement/removal under the assinine Gun Contral Act of 68'. Granted that Colt would be considered "Grandfathered" by any sort of reasonable interpretation of the law, but when dealing with some of the more ideological authorities on any sort of firearm related issue the word: "reasonable" is generally not found within their vocabulary.
-
*sigh* Mark, I am sorry to hear how you got shafted out of your truck (& house & other stuff) man, 25 years ago I wen't through it myself & know first-hand how much that sucks. If you'd like me to try to buy your M37 back from your EX just let me know, then you can just buy it back from me at whatever price it is that I can get it from her for. I will of course drive it a little between the transactions, but I promise to treat it as if it were mine (ie: that means I'd take care of it).

Yikes! all of my dogs wear a collar which has a quick-release buckle but I'd have never imagined an elevator catching a leash in its doors & "hanging" a dog like that!

Good looking truck man, congrats.

Back in the early 90's we restored an old surplus M3 Stuart which fortunately had been only parked & neglected in front of a VFW post, and thus spared the horrors of being sat out on a target range & blown all to hell. Anyway the 37mm had been demilled & the machine guns had been removed but once we got the engine running we had to go take it out for a spin (or two, or three, or four, or every chance we could hahahhaa). Anyway the tank was so small that we were able to take it on some excellent off-roading trails that snaked through the hills back behind the museum, which we (the military museum restorers) would regularly go try to get our personal "willies" muddy &/or stuck. Since the Stuart didn't actually belong to us, we couldn't get too crazy with it, but skid steering that thing through the muds & woods was an absolute blast

Well at least an acre was probably easy to get posted, a couple cameras would cover most of the potential problem areas iffin ya still feel uneasy about folks wandering past those signs. Last time I fenced in an acre it was about 7 grand for the materials/lumber, but that was a full-blown 7' privacy fence, I am guessing you could string up a simple dual-wire for a small-fraction of that if you set the posts & run the wire yourself.

Agreed, at least for now. This ruling does however set a legal precident which could be followed by other locations & in other rulings, meaning that it has the potential to spread like a cancer. Much like many of the other ideological-leftist asshattery which comes out of California & the 9th Circus.
