Doubt it's a reproduction, here is a bit of history I found. The following contributed by DR. James Whisker Great Western Gun Works. The Great Western Gun Works was founded by James Hampton Johnston, originally of Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. James H. was a son of John H. Johnston (1811â €‘1889), well known gunsmith whose work is generously represented by surviving examples. The first year that John H. Johnston was taxed as a gunsmith was 1832. In 1834 John obtained a lease on land he later purchased on the southwest side of Main St., Waynesboro. In 1850 the U.S. Census showed that Johnston had real estate valued at $1000 and was age 39 years, a gunsmith by trade. According to information supplied by his son, James, John had apprenticed with Henry Carlile of Shippensburg. The Waynesboro Village Record of 23 May 1889 carried an obituary for John H. Johnston, saying that he was in his eightieth year at his death. James Hampton Johnston was a son of John H. Johnston and apprenticed with him. His early years were spent in Waynesboro. In 1866 he went to Pittsburgh and founded the Great Western Gun Works. A second son of John H. Johnston, George B., joined James H. in the Great Western Gun Works enterprise, although far less is known of him and his influence on the firm's growth seems to have been minimal. Johnston, James Hampton (-1915). His son, John A. Johnston, entered the firm about 1888 and took over management in 1896. John A Johnston continued the business until 1923. While the firm operated exclusively in Pittsburgh, its addresses changed periodically, as shown by entries from period directories: Great Western catalogues show guns ranging in price from a low for plain guns of $7.50 to a high of $55 for fancy sporting rifles. He also sold small cannon and handguns. The better Great Western Gun Works firearms can compete with the better guns made in cottage industry shops. The lower priced items compete with poorer grade arms made by inferior workmen and the workaday guns made by any of the individual craftsmen. We have not seen any carved guns made by Great Western. The principal objection collectors have to Great Western products is that they are formula arms, all basically the same. Superior grade arms are simply the plainer grade guns with a bit of decoration and engraving added.

I'd really like to try my No.4 MK1 1942 Long Branch @ 1000yds, she sure shoots sweet at 400, I haven't been able to stretch her legs out any farther yet though.

When it rains I hurt like a motha@#$% for some odd reason, I think it's the osteoarthritis acting up or something. So no I freaking hate it when it rains, also the river floods up & makes it rough to get fishy goodness from it.

So Oprah is essentially saying that the whole "civil rights" movement is/was all based on BS?

Congrats on the new pony man! Eeerr I guess iron pony or even steel horse wouldn't quite describe that monsterous two-wheeled barcalounger, that said it definately looks like a sweet ride, looks like it's got every gadget imaginable, plus enough luggage space to transport a dead hooker, custom paint, tons of chrome, iffin it rides as good as it looks I'd say that ya definately picked a winner! (even if it does look like it weighs a bajillion katrillion tons) You'll have let me know iffin you ever ride out this way (west-side of TN) & I'll jump on mine and we'll go get stupid on some of the local roads.

That is sort of what I was thinking as well, there really is no "reasonable justification" that I can think of to go stormtroopering into an animal shelter after an abandoned/rescued fawn.

Magpul BUIS are hard to beat for the money, I haven't noticed any difference in either durability or accuracy between them or more expensive steel/alloy Troy's, AIM, etc flip-ups that I own. Anyway for optics I run Eotech on my serious stuff, I do however like Aimpoints the battery life on them is amazing, but I'm quicker on target, especially moving targets with Eotechs so that is what I use. I just keep a few (dozen) spare lithium CR123's on hand, the increase in preformance due to the 65MOA outer-ring is worth it IMHO. If you decide to go with a light magnification scope I'd suggest taking a look at Millet DMS 1-4x24mm, iffin you can find one in stock that is.

I've never had any problems with any Taurii revolvers that I've ever owned, so I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy another, however that said as with any firearm that I buy, I'd want to inspect it real good prior to walking out the LGS door with it.

New Aquisition! M1 Carbine by IBM
RichardR replied to Ramjo's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Congrats man, that's a darn fine looking IBM, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya hoping that it'll turn out to be all matching & unmolested! But heck iffin she shoots as good as she looks then I personally wouldn't even care if nothing matched, especially for that price. Looking forward to reading a more detailed range report *hint-hint*. -
Yup, I do it all of the time to my wife, who can be the longest-winded womminz on the planet!

I wouldn't join a group like this unless it was a tongue-in-cheek sort of local "Zombie Response Team" that trained for hypothetical zombie apocalypse sort of scenarios, I wouldn't want the group I was affiliated with to delve into politics or current events or anything "real" like that.

This is a huge part of the problem. A friend of mine just yesterday had a similar encounter with a "my baby didn't do nuffin mother", except that the mother explicitly stated right to my friends face, that because my friend was a white woman, that her kid was allowed to victimize her. It's upset her so bad that she's decided to sell her house & move out into the country, where there is no diversity to deal with ...

Welp just look at how the Tea Party has been maligned & demonized in the media & it's about as main-stream & legit, as main-stream & legit gets.

Welp the days of 40 hrs of run-time = ring change is long over man, thankfully modern ceramics & alloys have increased longevity of pistons/rings/sleeves a great deal, there really is no hard/fast rule anymore so I wouldn't bother with it until you actually notice some compression loss. I still have to rebuild my two-stroke nitromethane RC engines occasionally, so if you just want an engine to tinker with I can send you one of mine when it needs rebuilt LOL.

The problems with "militia" groups is the negative image painted of them by the media that portrays members as extremist, violent, potential domestic-terrorist, sorts of hogwash. Shame really considering traditional militia's have always historically served their communities with great distinction in times of peril, providing safety & security when the official goverment resources were inadequate. These days they've been redefined though & I personally wouldn't want to be associated with one, even if all we did was stand around wearing tri-corner hats, eat beans & have farting contests.

I think the main problem with this sort of things is that "the answer" isn't ever being given by the administration in a straight forward truthful way. This leads to suspicion & speculation, distrust, even conspiracy theorizing. Who's fault is it? The administration for denying & lying about everything? Or the people's fault for thinking a corrupt administration is up to something sinister? All I know is the truth isn't being told & I don't trust folks who don't trust me.

"Tactical" Pants (5.11 Dress/Khaki/Cargo/etc)
RichardR replied to GlockSpock's topic in General Chat
I've got a couple pair of Tru Spec pants, I think that they're pretty decent for the money, I've got over a dozen pairs of Tricor pants that are very well made & extremely durable, I'd put them up there with the USGI stuff I was issued. As an added bonus Tricor pants are made right here in TN I believe, anyway I don't think that I have any 5.11, Blackhawk or Popper pants though. -
Hahhhahaha "pod-people" would certainly explain a few things!

Wasn't paying attention and had a close call this afternoon.

I'm about an hour north of Memphis & the little buggers are everywhere around here, I hit a big nest of them with my weedwacker and they came bubbling to the surface just like I had struck oil, never seen so many ants in my life as what came out of that nest. I hit the nest with a water hose, soaked it up real good & soft then stomped it down as hard as I could then set several poison ant baits down around it to kill off any survivors. The buggers did manage to get me a couple times but thankfully I'm not alergic to their stings but they sure do hurt like heck though. I see armadillos all of the time as well, are they also an invasive species? -
.308 & .380 are the only two I'm in short supply on, .22LR good match stuff comes in a close third but I've got a couple bricks of cheap .22LR to get me by on until I can get more match ordered. Well crap come to think of it I do also need to order more assorted 20 gauge before duck season hits, (my wife & daughters prefer 20's over 12's) I guess I'll have to drag everything out & re-inventory all my ammunition, I'm usually pretty good at keeping my ammunition inventory spread sheet updated but this summer got a bit hectic with all of the stuff we had going on, so most range & hunting trips were all impromptu last minute affairs so not every thing got recorded as it should have. But it is good to know ammunition is starting to appear on shelves at reasonable prices again, thanks for the heads up, I might hit our local Walmart and see if they have anything I need before putting in an order!

Arsenal did at one time, not sure iffin they still do or not.

Is that a criminal or administrative violation though? I couldn't see any criminal violations, but there could be an administrative one in that hot mess somewhere.
