Gun Confiscations Begin in NYC!
i1afli replied to luvmyberetta's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They're confiscating a bolt action .22. And it all started as an "assault rifle" ban. -
You're right...i was confused...musta been thinking of the Iver Johnson Cadet that i had at about the same time. Sorry for the misleading statement and thanks for the correction.

I owned one for awhile. Wasn't particularly accurate and I found the dropout cylinder balky and difficult to remove and reinstall.

NICE!

Gunbroker: $850, but shipping and transfer is a hassle. Gunshow: $750, but you have to put up with tire-kickers and poor-mouthers Pawnshop: $550, not top dollar Among Friends on TGO: $650 - $725 Add $ if it's the correct 1942 barrel and add more if cartouched stock. I've found some real gems in the Rack Grade racks at CMP...back when they had them. Some rack grade stocks clean up REAL well.

Walmart in Knoxville Turkey Creek got a good-sized shipment of .380 yesterday (Friday, 7/12)...Remington and Federal...i picked up the limit of 3 boxes. Gander Mtn. also had a large shipment of ammo but no .380.

Garand Serial Numbers/Drawing Number Relationships
i1afli replied to bikertrash2001's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Congrats on the Garand purchase....you'll love it. I would suggest you get a copy of "The M1 Garand: World War II" or "The M1 Garand Serial Numbers and Data Sheets", both by Scott Duff and available on Amazon. The first is good is you want to know more about the history of the Garand and see some cool photos, and the second is a great quick reference...they both contain the same serial numbers and drawing number info. -
$349 @ Gander mtn knoxville

Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville
i1afli replied to i1afli's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
They estimated they've sold about 30 in the few days they've had them. There were noticeably fewer in the racks than last Friday. -

Went to GM at lunchtime. Mix of Izzy and Tula, hex, hi-wall, and low-wall round receivers. All are marked with PW Arms import stamp. Comes with bayo, oiler, and some tools. -

No milsurp collection is complete without one. -
Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville
i1afli replied to i1afli's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Garafu, thanks for the pricing info., that confirms to me that there is not a lot to be saved by shopping elsewhere, and thanks to others for info as well. The GM Mosins include an accessory pack that appears to include at least a bayo and oiler. I'm going to get a closer look today. -
Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville

Yeah, and i haven't been back since. And they don't have nearly the cars in the parking lot that they used to have, especially since Academy opened. -
Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville

If you already have Mosins for which you paid only $99, or less, then it may be hard to justify paying $179, but for those of us looking to buy our first Mosin I'm not sure that prices will ever be much lower. Plus you get to handpick from many. -
Was in Gander Mountain in Knoxville on Friday, 6/7, and saw that they got in a bunch of Mosins...must have had about 30 - 40 of them on the racks. $179 each. I didn't have time to check them out but they looked pretty nice. First time i've ever seen them stock a quantity of milsurps.

Nice Garand, dou44. I love that aged patina that only time can create, on the metal and the wood.

Walmart Turkey Creek has .40 jhp and Federal .380 as of 12:30 today. No 9 mm or .22. They restock ammo at noon.

I loved the size and safety on mine but couldn't get past the trigger so i sold it...maybe i should have tried this. I looked into it but it seems that at the time Galloway wouldn't sell you the parts, you had to send them the gun and i never got around to it. Maybe that has changed now.
-
Gander Mountain in Knoxville typically gets 1 - 3 of them each week and puts them out on Friday mornings...they'll be gone by 9:30 a.m. I recently picked one up there for $501 OTD.
-
You will typically find several of each at any gun show in the larger TN cities. This would at least give him the chance to look some over and get an idea of pricing. I occasionally see some reasonably priced.
-
Great looking rifle. Congrats.
-
Yep, me too...that's good news.

I registered to bid online and have been following it. Some decent deals on the older, collector stuff. SKS's are selling in the $275 - $350 range, but then you add the 10% premium, taxes, etc. Was going to do some online bidding until i realized that they won't let you pick them up, instead they ship them to your FFL so you're looking at another $20 shipping + $30 transfer fee + buyers premium, etc., etc., Turns out that they will let you pick them up locally.
