  1. Yeah, and i haven't been back since.  And they don't have nearly the cars in the parking lot that they used to have, especially since Academy opened.
  2. If you already have Mosins for which you paid only $99, or less, then it may be hard to justify paying $179, but for those of us looking to buy our first Mosin I'm not sure that prices will ever be much lower. Plus you get to handpick from many.
  3. Was in Gander Mountain in Knoxville on Friday, 6/7, and saw that they got in a bunch of Mosins...must have had about 30 - 40 of them on the racks.  $179 each.  I didn't have time to check them out but they looked pretty nice.  First time i've ever seen them stock a quantity of milsurps.
  4. Nice Garand, dou44.  I love that aged patina that only time can create, on the metal and the wood.
  5. Walmart Turkey Creek has .40 jhp and Federal .380 as of 12:30 today. No 9 mm or .22. They restock ammo at noon.
  6. I loved the size and safety on mine but couldn't get past the trigger so i sold it...maybe i should have tried this.  I looked into it but it seems that at the time Galloway wouldn't  sell you the parts, you had to send them the gun and i never got around to it.  Maybe that has changed now.

Gander Mountain in Knoxville typically gets 1 - 3 of them each week and puts them out on Friday mornings...they'll be gone by 9:30 a.m.  I recently picked one up there for $501 OTD.
  8. You will typically find several of each at any gun show in the larger TN cities.  This would at least give him the chance to look some over and get an idea of pricing.  I occasionally see some reasonably priced.
  9. Great looking rifle. Congrats.
  10. Yep, me too...that's good news.
  11. I registered to bid online and have been following it. Some decent deals on the older, collector stuff.  SKS's are selling in the $275 - $350 range, but then you add the 10% premium, taxes, etc. Was going to do some online bidding until i realized that they won't let you pick them up, instead they ship them to your FFL so you're looking at another $20 shipping + $30 transfer fee + buyers  premium, etc., etc.,  Turns out that they will let you pick them up locally.
  12. Yep, i love'em. $1300 for the Winchester seems a little high unless it has a Winchester barrel (rare, expensive) and Winchester stock (expensive). You're close enough to the CMP to just drive down there and see what they've got, but you can't make just one trip to the CMP...you'll find yourself going back again and again.
  13. I ordered some .30 carbine ammo from CMP on 1/2/13 and got a shipping notice on 1/18 so you're probably looking at about 2 weeks before it ships.
  14. Went to it today...drove all the way from Knoxville and no one was there! Must have been canceled. Hung out in the parking lot for awhile and two other guys came by looking for it as well. Good waste of half a day driving.
  15. You can get the dummy rounds here. I've ordered several different calibers of the dummy rounds...nice. http://www.dummybullet.com/
  16. My son and i hit the JB show on Sat. morning, then had lunch at Chandler's deli on Magnolia...great day! But boy the aisles were crowded Sat. morning.
  17. I've often wondered the same thing...what would people do if they heard a gunshot at a gunshow. I'd expect people to hit the deck.
