  1. Man, I'm glad u posted this...it's much closer than sweet water. Thanks.
  2. This doesnt really make sense, unless they want kids to believe that registering guns prevents them from being taken away. And that is probably want they are trying to do so the kids will go home and tell their dads that registering guns is good because that will keep the government from taking them. Indoctrinate them young.
  3. Technically TVA doesn't allow target shooting on their land so you would be doing it at risk.  Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s there were a thousand or so acres of TVA land around Watts Bar Lake near Spring City that was full of jeep roads and ATV trails and people were always shooting out there, but its all been posted with a bunch of rules now and all of the trails are grown over.  I gave up on trying to find open public land and just joined Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association....great facility.
  4. Nice!
  5. I got some ammo from them and noticed that it had a TN return address. Don't remember them collecting sales tax though. Maybe it's a new policy.
  6. The guy at Academy was just taking care of his friends. We all do that in one way or another.
  7. "If you use a public facility to sell guns, we really oughta have background checks done. Or don’t use the facility,” County Judge Sam Biscoe, the chairman of the commissioners, told reporters after the meeting. And that's a judge saying that. It's a public facility...that means it belongs to the people. See, you don't need to pass laws before infringing upon people's rights...it's all in how some judge chooses to interpret the existing laws.
  8. Check out some pawn shops. They are a great source for cheap .22s.
  9. Exactly. That's why it can happen anywhere. Politician's loyalties change with the prevailing winds, especially when those prevailing winds are driven by emotion and serve to further empower the political establishment.
  10. I would take about any shootable Garand for that price...wouldn't need to be real nice.
  11. Box of 100 (you paid about the going rate) or a box of 50 (too much)?
  12. They're confiscating a bolt action .22. And it all started as an "assault rifle" ban.
  13. You're right...i was confused...musta been thinking of the Iver Johnson Cadet that i had at about the same time.  Sorry for the misleading statement and thanks for the correction.
  14. I owned one for awhile. Wasn't particularly accurate and I found the dropout cylinder balky and difficult to remove and reinstall.
  15. Gunbroker:  $850, but shipping and transfer is a hassle. Gunshow:  $750, but you have to put up with tire-kickers and poor-mouthers Pawnshop:  $550, not top dollar Among Friends on TGO: $650 - $725 Add $ if it's the correct 1942 barrel and add more if cartouched stock. I've found some real gems in the Rack Grade racks at CMP...back when they had them. Some rack grade stocks clean up REAL well.
  16. Walmart in Knoxville Turkey Creek got a good-sized shipment of .380 yesterday (Friday, 7/12)...Remington and Federal...i picked up the limit of 3 boxes. Gander Mtn. also had a large shipment of ammo but no .380.
  17. Congrats on the Garand purchase....you'll love it. I would suggest you get a copy of "The M1 Garand:  World War II" or "The M1 Garand Serial Numbers and Data Sheets", both by Scott Duff and available on Amazon.  The first is good is you want to know more about the history of the Garand and see some cool photos, and the second is a great quick reference...they both contain the same serial numbers and drawing number info.
  18. $349 @ Gander mtn knoxville
  19. They estimated they've sold about 30 in the few days they've had them. There were noticeably fewer in the racks than last Friday.
  20. All were priced at $179.
  21. Went to GM at lunchtime. Mix of Izzy and Tula, hex, hi-wall, and low-wall round receivers. All are marked with PW Arms import stamp. Comes with bayo, oiler, and some tools.
  22. No milsurp collection is complete without one.
  23. Garafu, thanks for the pricing info., that confirms to me that there is not a lot to be saved by shopping elsewhere, and thanks to others for info as well. The GM Mosins include an accessory pack that appears to include at least a bayo and oiler. I'm going to get a closer look today.
