  1.   That was my experience with the two I had back in the 80's and early 90's.  And that was with the first several rounds.  After the barrel heated up those groups tended to get wider.  I've heard that they are much better now, but for the cost of one, I'd rather have an AK or AR.  You are basically in the same ball park in price.   I like the looks of this American Rancher, just wish they would accept AR mags.  Then it would be a handy little bolt action!  Ruger kills me using their proprietary magazines.  They are good magazines, but they are damned expensive!!!
  2. Ureaka!!! I have stumbled on to something!!! ?
  3. Hmmmm,,, Wonder what has them all stirred up.  Nothing on the horizon, I hope!  I think I have said it before, but this is my worst fear. If the grid goes down, our goose is cooked.   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/05/04/military-eyeing-former-cold-war-mountain-bunker-as-shield-against-emp-attack/
  4. There ain't no way a pair of basketball shorts would ever contain a Hi-Point!  It's the Chuck Norris of pistols and can never be contained!  They are so heavy, the shorts would be down around the wearer's cankles!!! LOL!!!
  5. Interesting write up!  I had one of the FEG Hi-Powers once upon a time.  My personal opinion was that it had an awful gritty trigger and the internals were made of cheap metal.  I didn't keep it very long.  Later on in life, I got an actually Browning HP.  It was far superior in fit, finish and accuracy with a decent trigger.  I've considered purchasing one of the FEG double actions in .45ACP, not long ago, but remembered the quality of the other FEG I had and put my hands in my pockets and walked away.
  6. I do tend to like them on the trashy side! LOL!    Seriously, is there anything I need to know about these things?  I bought it as a truck /fishing/loaner pistol. I'm the third owner.  The guy I bought it from said it had it several years and only put a box of shells through it.  I'll look for a couple of new mags for it.  I will admit this is my second HP.  I had a carbine several years ago and always regret I sold it, but I needed to pay some bills.  Wish I had that old Planet of the Apes gun back!
  7. Would be cool if you can use a SIG brace on it.  Otherwise, I think I would just as soon have the carbine in .45ACP.
  8. Just picked it up a bit ago!!! Can't wait to take to the range and wring it out!!! ? Do you think I got a good deal at $125? ?
  9. I like Forstchen's other books as well. He is a pretty good author! He doesn't just write post acocalypse books.
  10. I would agree about polish on some of these books. Just finished The Survivors: Life After War. Kind of a post apocalypse fantasy. It was entertaining, but lacked depth and substance. Definitely not near as polished as George R.R. Martin.
  11. Smokey Mountain Knife Works had them today for $174.99.
  12. Man, I love cheap knives!!! I love the value you get out of them! I was at the flea market over at the expo center the other day and picked up a Mora Heavy Duty MG in carbon steel. Hard to beat that knife for a 4" fixed blade. I've found Opinels and the Svord Peasant to be awesome cheap folders! My Sunday go to meetin' knives are usually hand picked Rough Riders. I have a locking Canoe and a locking trapper that have good snap and a solid lock. The blades hold a very good edge. And I paid all of $9 for each of them. I also have a Rough Rider Scout folder and a Copperhead that a old fella insisted I take for doing some work for him on a porch. That was my first intro to Rough Riders. Now I do hand pick them, specifically for the snap when opening. I'm kind of picky about that. Speaking of the PRC Kershaws, I picked up a little Compound to carry for $19. My older daughter liked it so well, I gave it to her to carry at college. She carries clipped to her pocket all the time. Great pocket knife. One of the best values in a tactical folder is the Ontario Rat 1! I purchased on on EBay for $35 shipped several years ago. The knife is built like a tank!!! I carried for a couple of years. My daugher's fiance took a liking to it, so I gifted it too him. Currently the most expensive knife I own, besides a Helle Odel and a Paul Hargis Custom fixed blade, is an ESEE Izula. It splits time in my pocket with a CRKT Minimalist. I've gone to carrying a small fixed blade thru the week most of the time. I just like carrying a small fixed blade. Just like the sturdiness. Every once in a while I will carry a Boker+ Kalishnokov auto knife. I know a lot of people don't like them. I bought this one to see what all the fuss was about concerning auto knives. I didn't want to pay a lot for it though. This one fits the bill. I've had ZERO issues with it. Like I said I love good cheap knives!!!
  13. I have a 20" Mossberg 590 with a pistol grip speed feed stock and rifle sights, that I keep 00 buck loaded in. Great shotgun!!!  Very comfortable to handle and I find it very maneuverable.  I am not a fan of pistol grip only scatterguns.  If I am not going to shoulder the weapon, I like to tuck the butt stock under my arm.  I find that it is easier to control and it's much easier to get off a second shot with more accuracy.   As for the safety, it is a bit harder to get to.  You have to change the way you grip, but I can still get to the trigger after I push the safety off.   And the best thing about the 590 is you can mount a bayonet on it!  I have one of those too! :)  Yeah, I'm tacticool!!! LOL!
  14. I'm in the process of reading Earth Abides by George R. Stewart.  It's set in 1947. The catastrophe is a plague that wipes out most humans world wide. Ish is one of the very few survivors.  It deals with the life and and a few survivors make in San Fransisco over several decades. If you are looking for lots of action, gore and sex, this isn't the book for you.  If you want to see yet another idea of how a group might work together to overcome adversity, then it's a good read.  By the way, this book came out in 1949 and was considered one of the first, if not the first post apocalyptic books.
  15.   My second 1911 was a Norinco.  I had it about 10 years, until an SOB broke into our house and stole it.  Loved that pistol!     They were exceptional deals!  My first 1911 was an Auto Ordnance. It wasn't that great, so I sold it.  Later on I bought my Norinco. See above as to what happened to it.  It ate everything I ran through it. The only thing I did was change the back strap and added a full length guide rod.  It could out shoot most other 1911s that my friends 1911s.    After the Norinco was stolen, I replaced it with a Springfield 1911 SS Loaded.  It was another great pistol.  I traded it last summer for an AR.  But I picked up a Springfield Mil-Spec a couple of months back for a song!  It's also a great pistol, but I would put that old "piece of trash" Norinco (as one of my friends used to call it) up against either one of the Springfields.
  16. :) I want to send you an offer on your Howa Targetmaster. :)
  17. And you all are shocked that this happened?  It happens every year just about.  The leadership in both chambers are not friends of ours and neither is Haslem. He is a protege of that buffoon Bloomberg.  They just want our votes, like the Democrats want the LGBT and African American vote.  We keep getting screwed  by them.  I guess we must enjoy it, since we keep bending over for it.   We need to remember this next election and not just vote to send the Republican Leadership a message.  We should instead, vote the Republican Leadership out in the primary or falling that stay home and let the other guys win for a cycle.  Then explain to the Republican Party why they lost and demand more than lip service from that point on!  They have zero respect for us.  We are just a election year booty call for them.
  18. RIA, ATI or a Springfield Mil Spec.  These range from $400 to $600.  One of these one be perfect for a 1st 1911.
  19. I kinda think it's cool, but I would probably never buy it.
  20. If he did, he's an idiot.  You will not make that kind of money working for the Government.
  21. Sounds like me.  Everything has a specific pocket and I never change them. Wallet in front left with cell phone.  Knife and keys in my front right.  BTW, I went with a leather credit card holder for a wallet. It's much smaller than a regular wallet and I forget I'm carrying it sometimes.  Can't really stand anything in my back pockets anymore.
  22. Dude, that is one awesome looking Long Hunter knife!!!  How much would something like that go for.  Jeff White sells his on EBAY for for around $40, but his are 1/8" thick.
  23. I like the looks of the Avispa, too!  Nice looking knife!  Hard to go wrong with an ESEE design!
  24. I've owned a RAT1 with the serrated blade.  I gave it to my future son-in-law when he started his unarmed security job.  Great knife, but I was less than thrilled with the serrated edge.  I prefer a plain blade.  I bought the serrated blade version on a whim.  Other than the blade, I loved the knife.  It's big and hand filling.  Flicks upon easily and is built like a TANK!!!  The point could have been pointier also.  It's a very solid knife though.  You will probably like it.   I have a lot of folders, but I carry a SAK with me all the time, and my main blade is either a small Folts Minimalist or an ESEE Izula.  Both fit in my pocket easily.  I rarely carry the Izula on my belt and the Folts just fits so easily in my pocket, I forget its there.  Neither is a tactical blade IMO, due to the blade length.  Both are less than 3", but they are both so handy for daily use!
  25. Great deal!  You should jump on it!   As for  the wish that I had never sold my P-series... I had a P-89.  Great shooting pistol, but damn was it LARGE!  Too large.  It was also uncomfortable to carry concealed.  It was thick and when you tucked in a IWB holster the safety seemed to always find a tender spot where ever it was at.  So no, I don't regret selling it off.   That being said, I wouldn't mind having one of these SR45s!  I've heard really good things about them!
