  1.   The fact of the matter is there are just so many factories turning these things out.  And not nearly enough to replace even half of the of the high voltage transformers in a timely manner.  And time will be a thing we need the most of, but won't have.   We discussed this at work the day after I posted my initial comment here, and there was general agreement that we were screwed as a nation, if something were to happen like an EMP attack or a huge CME where more than half of the high voltage transformers in this country were destroyed.  This is what we do for a living, I might add.  We work for most of the large power producers in the country.
  2. It will be interesting to see if the ARs that were used in this, were California compliant.  It would be even more interesting if the ended up Fast and Furious weapons!
  3.   I'm not holding my breath that they will call this terrorism.  It will be work place violence.  Wait and see.
  4. The shooter has been identified as Syed Farook in the LA Times.  Foxnews is confirming this.  And the other individual's name is similar sounding, but they are not giving that out at this time.  Foxnews is also saying that they have heard from LE that they think there were only two suspects.    Syed's father is the one that identified his son as a suspect and he described Syed as a devote Muslim.
  5. I got my M&P 45C out of Lay-A-Way at Harvey's Pistol and Pawn here in Knoxville last Friday. It was $416 out the door, brand new! Didn't get to the range this weekend. I hope to get there this weekend!!! Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  6.     As Robert pointed out, transformers are the big problem.  Specifically the large 161, 230 and 500kV transformers that our local large utility uses.  Replacements take two to three years to manufacture, deliver and install. Depending on the configuration and size, there could be as many as 15 or 20 of these at one power plant.   There are also the smaller transformers that reside throughout the power distribution system, that could also have to be replaced. When you take this all into account, It's easily conceivable that parts, if not most of the grid in this country, could be down for 5 to 10 years or longer.  These things are not kept on a shelve to be trotted out and installed, when one fails.   The bright spot in all this, is that there is movement afoot to protect the grid from a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection), but it won't happen overnight. And I am not sure how this would protect against a large EMP attack, which is what I worry about most.  This seems to be more devastating in nature and could affect more infrastructure than a CME.
  7. If you are looking for an auto look for a used Ruger Mk II.  You might find a basic model in your price range.  If you are looking for a single action revolver, then look at a Heritage Arms.  You should be able to pick a .22LR for less than $200.  They also come with a .22mag cylinder for an additional fee.  You should be able to find a used H&R 929 or a High Standard Sentinel for around $200.  Both are dependable revolvers.
  8. I joked on FB right after it happened, that the Southern U.S. was being blamed for the Paris Terrorist attacks.  Looks like it wasn't a joke. SMH!
  9. Not technically a Black Friday score since I put this in Lay-A-Way back at the end of October, but I did purchase my S&W M&P 45C yesterday for $415.14 out the door. That's a brand new FDE M&P 45C. YEA ME!!! :)
  10. I must have my SEC Channel!!!
  11. Pretty horrible.  Wonder if the moron had a HCP or what ever passes for one in his state?  I sure hope not.
  12.   Leroy and I like our comfort.  Loose jeans or khakis and DeSantsi Nemesis holster hid my little J-frame well in the front right pocket.   Someone poo-poed Taurus several posts back.  I have a little Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 that has been a dandy little pistol!  With 500 rounds down the tube with NO PROBLEMS!  Taurus upped their game with this pistol, finally!!!
  13. Do you know if they take insurance? Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  14. Sounds like you want a Springfield XDs.
  15. My problem is I wear progressives (sucks getting old) and those aren't cheap. The one pair I have now were close to $600. That's too expensive to buy multiple pairs. The good thing is I will purchase a new pair the first of the year and I think these are still good enough to work as a back up. I also am on the record as loving clip on sunshades! I buy them at Sam's and Walmart and they run about $18 a pair. Can't beat that for sun glasses. :) Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  16. Dolomite likes them.
  17.   I've had experience with the .380 round... then I switched to 9mm! :D  Well actually, I mostly carry a S&W .38spl. snubbie.
  18. Another place to try locally for cheap ammunition is Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Seiverville. But check Walmart first for ball ammunition prices. I just picked up a FNH FNS9 that is really comfortable in the hand. Plan on shooting it this weekend. Hickok 45 loves this pistol! And hopefully I will get my M&P45C out of lay-a-way next week. :) Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  19. When I was looking for a .308 Bolt action, I looked at a Ruger Scout.  I wasn't that impressed with the handling or the trigger.  Ended up picking up a Savage 10P SR.  I added a Vortex Diamondback scope and I love it!!!  It's a little tack driver! You can see pictures here.http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/87929-tactical-bolt-gun/  It came with the flash suppressor and the big knob on the bolt.  I ditched the Centerpoint "tacticool" scope for the Diamondback, which I picked up on sell at Bud's.
  20. I'm not holding my breathe that these will be sold anytime soon. I expect all kinds of road blocks to be put up by the administration through the end of Obama's term. And if Hillary (the odds on favorite) gets elected, then CMP may never sell them. Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk

    Cheap Thrills

I sure like my Taurus PT111 Millennium G2. You can get them for $199 +. Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  22. I also am not a fan of the .380.  I would rather have a 9mm or a .small 38 spl. I have a S&W Mdl 38 Air Weight Bodyguard that goes where ever I go.   Harvey's Pistol and Pawn was running a special on S&W Shields in 9mm and 40S&W for $329 last week.  They also had full size and compact M&P's in 9mm, 40S&W and .45ACP for $379 of you bought it that day.  They also do lay-a-way, for up to 10 months, as long as you pay 10% down and 10% a month.   A little double stack 9mm that I love is a Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 (not the Pro).  I've had mine for over a year now and it's ran flawlessly since I got it (over 500 rounds now).  You can get these for $199 at several places around East Tennessee.   I realized I was rude in not welcoming you to our site and o our fair state.  Welcome to both and welcome to a bit more freedom than you experienced in the People's Republic of New York!  We could still improve somethings in this state when it comes to freedom, but I think we are on the right road! :)
  23. Pretty sure they weren't crying about it. Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  24. I think I said that. It was 1, followed by 2 which was no funding to close Gitmo. Obama said as much. ;) Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk
  25. OS, who makes the kydex holster for your J-frame? I've been using a Nemesis for my S&W Mdl 38 Bodyguard, but have been thinking about getting something else.
