I have TWO Hi-Point 9mms now! One mounted with a red dot and the other just has the iron sights. I like the looks of the Ruger, but not enough to pop down $600. That's a bit extravagant for my tastes. I'd like a Keltec 2000 with the Glock mags.

THIS is what activism looks like. What is our side doing?
Moped replied to TGO David's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I was able to take the survey. I also would be happy to go to a Pro 2A rally and have traveled to Nashville in the past for such things. -
I wish Ruger would come out with a LCR .357 in a 3" barrel too! Used to have a S&W 19 with the 2 3/4" barrel. It was a good shooting pistol!

I hadn't planned on "wanting" another pistol, but now that I have my HCP, my mind has changed. I really don't know why. I have a .45 ACP XDs and a Keltec P32, already. But dropped the wife and daughter to a baby shower in Maryville and and then swung by Gunny's and then Bill's Outpost (this is a hidden gem here!!!) and looked at a number of small CC firearms. I have to admit that I have never been a fan of of M&Ps but I really liked the Shield I dry fired and also the Cancik TP9??? I also like the looks of the Ruger LCRx with the 3" barrel. So... what to do?

Welcome to the State of Tennessee! Recently got my HCP and went through the class with a Deputy who is retiring soon. The Sheriff's Department recommended he get his HCP as opposed to whatever it is the State does for retired officers. Once you take your class, submit the form to the State along with your finger prints, it takes about 7 days to get your permit in the mail. I was amazed at how fast it came!!!

Current Process for Fingerprinting
Moped replied to spclopr8tr's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That was my experience as well. I used UPS store near my home. Took about 5 minutes to do the fingerprints and then I was on my way. Got my HCP a couple of weeks later. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk -
You have not come across as annoyed at all. Rather, with patience in trying to understand my point of view and have offered good advice. Thank you! [emoji5] Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Actually I purchased it over a year ago. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

You were the one that got me to look at Keltec again. I too, hated the PF9. Very painful at the range and mine kept dropping the mag every two or three rounds. But then you talked about how great the little P32 was, so I found me a used Gen 1. It's now my favorite pocket gun with ball loaded! Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

That's why I may go rent or borrow one to try out. Thanks for the advice though. I really appreciate yours and Garufu' input. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

They don't sound like the original M&P either, so I might be interested in a 2.0. And I have a Glock. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

A smooth take up, with a slight stack and a clean break. I can handle a long take up like on a Taurus PT111 Millennium G2, as long as it does what I like. The best trigger I found on a striker fire so far is on a FNH FNS and my Glock 17. They are about even. The worst was the M&P Compact. I'd compare It to a FEG copy of the Browning Hi-Power, I owned back in the early 90's. It was gritty and in no way smooth. The stack before it broke felt like it was hanging up, till you put a little extra effort into it. All the pistols I own or have owned, have been factory. I don't modify them in any way. I've had my Glock 17 since 1990. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Thanks! I guess I was guilty of reading the instructions. Boy, just went to the Smith & Wesson Forum to read about alternative disassembly of M&Ps. Don't go over there and tell them that you got passed flicking that little safety lever down, by dry firing the pistol! Apparently S&W installed that as a extra safety step to cut back on NDs. Glocks were disparaged because they don't have this step and people got shot when failing to check the chamber, before dry firing the pistol for disassembly.

So you don't have to flip the lever down or up whatever direction it called for in the disassembly instructions with some sort of pointy tool? That's a plus!!! Having cut my teeth with pistols on the 1911a1 in the military, having to have a tool to take down any weapon for basic maintenance just sorta irked me. Seriously, how is the trigger? I do not want to spend another $150 for another part to make a pistol perform the way it should, straight out of the box. I really want to like these pistols, since S&W is an American company, but once burned...

So S&W still hasn't fixed the trigger? :/ I purchased a Gen 1 Compact two years ago in .45ACP and was very disappointed. Not only with the trigger (the most horrid trigger I had ever experienced on a $400+ pistol), but with the pistol as a whole. It felt extremely clunky and unbalanced. Not to mention that it required a tool for take down; another negative for me. I tried my best to like it, but ultimately ended up trading it away two months later for an Springfield XDs .45 ACP (which I still have, shoot and carry). Accuracy was on par for a polymer striker fired pistol and it was reliable. Never had any issues with that at all (but just 200 rounds of mostly ball). Honestly, my experience with this pistol has kept me away from the Shield in any caliber.

Wish other manufacturers would start following this trend of selling the pistol with three mags. And great point about holsters.

I have one of their Lock Back Trappers, great pocket knife. I'm not much into tactical these days, mostly because everyone else is. I also have a Copperhead that was given to be and which introduced me to the brand. It's also a great little knife. Later on, I added a locking Canoe. That's my fancy occasions knife. I always have a pocket knife on me. SMKW works has a great gun counter and they sale ammunition at really good prices. And Bud's Gun Shop and Range is just a block away (an easy walk) as is a very good Coleman Store, if you are into camping.

Seems to be a rich man's FNH FNS. Doubt it comes with a 3rd mag like the FNH does though and probably sells for a $100+ more. Doesn't excite me that much. I will just hang on to my FNH.
-
I guarantee you it will be worth your time to drive to Sevierville, to pick one of these knives up. They are cheap, but if you get to pick the exact one you want and are picky, they are good knives. But that's not the reason you want to drive to SMKWs. Trust me!

It was probably brought into the country as a .380. They were doing that for a while.

Neat, but oddly enough, I'm pretty happy with my Hi-Point 995TS. Not sure the Ruger is worth 3 times the cost of a Hi-Point. Yeah, I know I'm weird.
