  1. I don't know all the circumstances in the Florida shooting. Was the shooter handicapped? Was that why he was yelling at the woman in the car? if so and he was pushed to the ground by a more physically able person, then he really might have been in fear of his life. Just playing devils advocate here. Nothing more.
  2. My wish list consists of one firearm right now an that's an affordable lever gun in .357mag. Haven't found one of those yet. The Affordable part seems to be the hang up.
  3. Where are you finding Shields for less than $300 at? Memphis must be a cheaper market than Knoxville. I don't think I have seen one for less than $350. I see the PT111s going to around $210 all the time, though.

So what distances do you practice with it? I can't see it being much more than a 15 yard pistol. Mostly practice with these little handguns at 7 yards though.
  5. New hobbies like Kayaking and Hiking have taken their toll on my shooting, as have cost and kids. Lately though, I've gotten back into acquiring a few new toys. In the last three months, I have acquired two new pistols. Still haven't shot them yet. Too many other things I need/want to do and honestly around here, the cost of going to a range has gone out of sight or the rules at the cheaper and closer range take the fun out of shooting.
  6. I don't think I'd want to be the one to initially test fire that thing.
  7. Actually, the FNS-9 is a lighter pistol, while being dimensional similar and it can also be purchased new for less than $400. It also comes with three 17 round mags. I have one and I love it!!!
  8. I saw a couple of rifle kits that I might get! And could be an easy way to get a .45 auto. Don't they still sell stripped frames in Shotgun News? Been a while since I picked on of those up.
  9. I'd like to have one in .357 mag. Unfortunately that's not one of the choices.

  12. Love Cromwell!!! I think I have read just about all his books, but the Starbuck series about the American Civil War. Just could not get into it. But I read the entire Sharps series in a single summer about 5 years ago! I also love the Saxon Series and the Grail Series. You should check out The Mongoliad Series by Neal Stephenson and Erick Bear. It's set in the year 1242 in Poland, Rome and Mongolia. Great read. They went on to start the Foreworld Saga. It's loosely tied in with the Mongoliad Series, but it goes back in forth throughout the history of Western Civilization. Some are short stories and some are actual books. But all are are historical novels about events that actually happened. They are written by several different authors. I've really enjoyed them so far! I've also been reading a couple of Sci/Fi series. One by Mark Kloos called the Frontline Series. And another series by Scott Bartlett called the Ixan Prophecies Trilogy. Both are great reads. Currently, I am reading Don Miguel Ruiz Jr.'s Mastery Of Self. And I intend on re-reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz Sr.
  13. Here is a link to the Browning Auto 5, showing the placement of the friction rings. Mine is set up for light loads. These are basically the same gun. http://www.browning.com/support/frequently-asked-questions/how-do-i-change-the-rings-on-my-auto-5.html Mine was made in Belgium, by FN. It was my grandfather's bird gun. He purchased it back in the late 30's. He worked as a mechanic in the coal mines of Eastern Kentucky and was paid better than most. I expect that the Browning Auto 5 was not the average man's shotgun at that time, especially in Eastern Kentucky.

A black Gen 1 P32 is my daily carry as well. Bought the LCP, just to see if I liked carrying something a little more stopping power. Kinda the grass is greener thing.
  15. Looks like a nice knife, with the exception of one thing. All the ones they have at SMKW are serrated. Can't you get a non serrated blade in these?

I had gjohnsoniv make a holster for my Taurus .357 Tracker. QUALITY WORK!!! Haven't seen 8 round mags for this yet. I will have to google better, I guess!

  18. Now I want to get my old Browning out and check how my set is. Thanks for the chart!!!

    Ruger LCP

Just picked one up on auction this week. Used, in the box, but looks like it has never been fired. Anything I need to know about them? Best place to get an extra mag for it? I already I figure it's not going to be a fun gun at the range. Any thoughts on a concealed carry belt holster for one? I've been pocket carrying a Keltec P32 and the holster for it, fits the LCP. They are virtually the same pistol, but the LCP is a little beefer and has a better quality finish. But it only cost me $27 more.
  20. Off topic, but does Promag make a decent mag for anything? I've never had one that worked well for any firearm!
  21. If you are looking at a .22LR, then I'd go with a Ruger 10/22. Pretty fun and lots of mods out there for them. If you are looking for a semi-auto centerfire rifle, then you can't go wrong with an AR and the prices are right now, with carbon fiber lower rifles starting at around $350. Centerfire bolt rifles , you already got good advice about. My personal preference is Savage, but to each their own. Now for something off the wall... A Hi-Point 995TS 9mm carbine! Cheap to shoot and loads of fun and they don't break the bank and can be used as a home defense rifle!
  22. Personally, I'd stay mainstream for my first firearm. Since this might also be the only firearm I am able to purchase, I'd try to meet all the bases of home defense, range and carry. I'd stick to 9mm, because the round is proven, easily found and cheap. That being said, I would pick something along the lines of FNH FNS, Glock 19, or Springfield XD Subcompact. To that list, if I can swallow my pride, I might consider a S&W M&P Compact 2.0. I love CZ75s, but my hand size is a bit to small for them and I consider them to heavy for carry, even though they the most accurate pistol around. Just my two cents.
  23. I've owned 2 of the "little" PT111 G2s (I say "little" because they are small, but still hold 12 rounds). Traded the first one for a Hi-Point Carbine (which I still have and enjoy shooting). Missed it so much I ended up buying another one. Great shooting guns in my opinion, but a lot of people don't like the long trigger pull and reset. I've never had an issue with it. I think most people bitch about them because they are a Taurus, without actually taking the time to check them out. I think it's the best deal on the market for just a bit north of $200! Hickok45 even liked them!
  24. Might want to consider pocket carry. Isn't the EC9S pretty small? Might even need to switch to something like a P3AT, LCP or LCP2.
  25. On a whim, I picked a new Taurus .357 Tracker revolver back in May as a range and woods gun. Well it needed a new set of pants to go with it. I really wanted a leather holster this time. Something that would be versatile. I really liked the Galco Phoenix holster, with its two position functionality and style. It can be worn on the strong side or as a crossdraw and it was nice looking. What didn't like was the price tag of $158 msrp. I threw it out to the membership here and gjohnsoniv suggested he could make one for the price I was looking for. I got it last week, for the agreed up one price and here it is. I couldn't be more thrilled with it! The workmanship is first rate! If you are looking for someone to make a very nice holster for you, George is the man for the job! ☺
