I’ve not shot hollow points through mine’ but the 230gr ball was good to go.
  2. Hey David, there’s about a 21 page thread about patrol rigs over on BushcraftUSA, you should checkout. https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/the-modern-fighting-kit-loadout-gear.320751/
  3. Boy, all the big makers are jumping on the polymer 10mm bandwagon now. For the longest time it was just Glock.
  4. Had two tears in my left knee repaired and a arthritic grit sucked out of my knee about 7 years ago, arthoscopically. I was up walking around in a TVA Switchyard 4 days later. Spent the weekend on crutches, though. It sucked. But I started PT two weeks later, for couple of weeks, then I was good to go. Swelling never completely went down, but I've been hiking on it, ever since. Still get some pain, but nothing major.
  5. My Rossi .357 trapper is a fun little rifle!!!

That's a crazy good deal! I was able to win a new one at a Harvey's auction for $430 dollars, which I thought was a steal! Loved the way it shot, but the controls just didn't fit me. Had to reposition the pistol in order to drop the mag or take the safety off. A friend from work fell deeply in love with it, so now he owns it.
  7. That has to be one of the toughest jobs of all!
  8. You are thinking about the 342PD and that weighs in at 10.8oz.
  9. I think you know the answer to that one!
  10. This explains the squarish box mags. I though they looked more 7.62, than 5.56. Another question… Will the rest of NATO follow suit?
  11. The Army has finally picked it's new rifle and Squad Automatic Weapon, to go along with it's new pistol. Rifle: https://www.yahoo.com/news/army-picks-replacement-m4-saw-230105091.html SAW: https://www.yahoo.com/news/army-chooses-sig-sauer-build-225152088.html
  12. Would love to hear about them as well. Will be in the area tomorrow.

I read it was #23, but that seems awfully high to me. #16 was supposed to USGI.
  14. A hunting guide did bring down a bruin with a 9mm, using Buffalo Bore hardcast bullets. If I were going to carry either of these rounds though, I would opt for higher capacity. I have an XDs in .45acp and I like it a lot, but it only has a capacity of 5 or 7 rounds. I would not be comfortable with that limitation. The Ruger with the combination of a hi-cap mag (17 rounds) and Buffalo Bore 147gr hard cast bullets, as the hunting guide used below might be my choice, if I were limited to these two pistols. https://www.wideopenspaces.com/alaska-man-kills-charging-brown-bear-with-a-9mm-pistol/
  15. Can't believe this is still here!
  16. Not on the shelve. The last I bought was some Winchester 158gn SJHP .357, about a year and a half ago. As soon as I saw it, I snapped up the two boxes they had, I was at my LGS the other day and looked at a Taurus 856. The guy behind the counter, said they had a box in reserve for each pistol they had for sale. But there was none on the shelf. He said it was lead round nose. You can find it online, though.

    Carry History

    Over the years, I’ve carried lots of different guns. But since I got my HCP, I’ve carried a FNS9> Keltec P32> LCS9Pro> S&W 442> Tisas Fatih> Taurus 627 >LCP Max> TX22> S&W 442. The last three are a rotation, pretty much anymore.

If you make it to Knoxville, hit up Harvey's. He usually has a selection of Tisas/SDS 1911a1s and some RIAs that start in the $400 range and go up from there. That's where I bought my SDS U.S. Army Model. He also has an auction site, where you can sometimes get a good deal. I've bought several pistols from his auctions. Two examples of great deals from that were my S&W 442 for $302 + tax and a CZ75B for $430+ tax. Both were new. Some of them get crazy though, especially during the COVID panic.

    @xsubsailor

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He was here a long time. Prayers for his friends and family!
  20. Oh, when it came to weapons procurement, the military has been stupid for a over a century. A classic example was the U.S. Army selecting the single shot trapdoor Springfield after the civil war; the thought being that soldiers would just waste rounds if they were given repeaters or lever actions. How stupid was this? The U.S. Calvery used repeaters in the Civil War to great effect. Yet, afterwards, they weren't good enough to get them during peace time. Also European armies were already starting to issue repeating bolt action rifles, as early as the 1870s. Not having a repeating rifle in the hands of troops also probably led to the massacre at the Little Bighorn. That and Custer being an idiot by splitting his force and leaving his Gatlingguns behind. That was a decision to adhere to NATO standards. NATO, went along with the 5.56X45 and in return we went to the 9mm. Very true. But I think with new technology, the 9mm has come a long way towards rectifying the difference. That being said, if I were limited to FMJ, then most definitely, the .45ACP would be my caliber of choice. But honestly, the 1911 would not be, unless it in involved into a high capacity pistol. I would opt for a FNH FNX 45, Glock 21 or Springfield XDM.
  21. I took a two night course and I also learned a lot. When others ask me about getting the online HCP, I always encourage them to go take the class for the enhanced permit. I felt it was extremely helpful! Of course, we had a added luxury. We had a retiring Deputy. Knox County tells their retiring officers to just go through the permith class. Apparently, it's a PITA to go though channels and get a retired officer's permit or whatever it's called. Anyway we had the benefit of this officer's experience. He and the instructor made it very informative. It was a great experience.
  22. I suspect the Taurus 617, is the little sister of the 627. Just has the shorter barrel.
  23. Anyone of those would do. You might consider a Ruger GP100 7 shot revolver or a S&W 686 7 Shot. Or if those are too expensive, step down to a Taurus Tracker 627 7 shot .357. I have one of those. It's my hiking pistol. I don't get the love for the Governor or the Judge, But that's just my opinion and prejudice.
  24. I have no pistols in .40S&W, but have been thinking along these same lines David. And it's just not limited to Glock 22 & 23. There seem to be a lot of S&W M&Ps out there on the surplus market as well. I guess I have room for one more caliber. So might do this. However, it's a ways down on the list.
