If I'm at home, I'm taking them all and heading north toward my extended family depending on exactly what hit the fan. If it's Oak Ridge doing a Chernobyll then I'm heading out of the way of a West wind just as fast as I can! Regardless, I'm not staying in Knoxville!

Ask the Secret Service. That's what they are issuing to guards at the White House now.

I got to agree with this. The only chance we have in Obama NOT becoming President is to get John McCain elected. For some this is a natural selection. For others, they may have to hold their nose. But we must vote for McCain, otherwise it will be like Bill Clinton all over again. I don't think any of us wants those days to return!

It was me! I just sent you a PM.

First of all, as some else recommended, go shoot several before you settle on one. Second of all think about what you want to do with it. Do you want a carry gun, home defense gun or a plinker or even a combination of all three. If you want to carry, then I recommend some sort of compact with weight being a big consideration. If it's too heavy you'll ended up unhappy with your choice. Something along the lines of a Glock 19, Springfield XD SC or a Browning HP (I love these btw). If it's for home defense, then size doesn't matter. Look at a Beretta 92, Ruger 89 (good bang for the buck), Glock 17, Springfield XD, SIG or a Browning HP (Have I mentioned that I love these). If your looking for a plinker, get a .22. If your looking for all three look at the compacts again. I'm sure something will stand out. And most of all have a ton of fun selecting it. Odds are this won't be the last one you'll ever buy.

Man, I'd be hard pressed to think other .22 pistol is better than a Ruger MK I, II or III. They are accurate, reliable, not finky, cheap and simple. Frankly, I can't ever imagine not having one in my collection. I have 4.5" bull barrel target with target grips. It's a great pistol! I also have a Colt peacemaker with a 6.5" barrel that I like to shoot. I had another in .22 mag that got stolen a couple of years back. That was a great little pitol too! I love .22s! I have more fun with them, than either either caliber!

Gosh darn it! So am I! Someone forgot to tell me about the whole pagan thing though!

I could also care less what happens in the privacy of one's bedroom. I also wouldn't take offense if a gay man made a pass at me. I'm not gay and I'd let him know that. Hell, I might even be flattered by it. But it wouldn't bother me. Live and let live as long as it does no harm. And I too don't believe homosexuality is a choice. Why would some one choose to be stigmatized and shunned by a major part of society? I believe there is a genetic reason for it. Some peoples switch got flipped wrong in the beginning. Besides in a couple of more generations it will be accepted as a normal part of society. Look at racism a couple of generations ago and where we are at now. It's almost non-existant in my kid's generation. So is homophobia.

I think it was last week or late the week before last that the State of Texas took one of the "under aged" girls to the hospital under guard to have her baby. Late last week the State admitted that she was 22 years old. Apparently there is another young lady that is being held as a ward of the state that is also pregnent and she has also be found to older than the proscribed age. I don't hold with forcing under aged girls to marry older men either. I think it's pretty sick, but it seems to me that the State of Texas' case is starting to unravel just a bit. I also would like to point out that just about half the families there were of monogamist. They lived in their on houses separate for the others and their kids were seized too. Also the phone call that was made to the authorities is now thought to have been a hoax and a woman in Colorado has been charged. Again Texas' case is starting to look weaker and weaker. This brings us back to the original topic of the US looking more and more like a Police State. I have to agree with this statement. My parents just got back from a two week vacation out west, where they were stopped several times by the US Border Patrol at different check points. At each stop they had to prove who they were and tell what they were doing. They weren't at the border either. They were 75 to 100 miles away from the border. My dad found them to be rude and arrogent in their questioning. I might add that my parents look like white anglo saxons, which they are. Now cities are putting up cameras every where. Washington, DC may be the most under surveillance city in the country now. Chicago and New York City are right there with them. Even in Knoxville, they are have cameras up at all major intersections. Of course we that live here, know all about the traffic citation cameras at dangerous intersections. But there are numerous others that mounted at other intersections as well. It just seems to me that we are trading freedom for security and I'm not sure it's worth it. I guess I belong to the Tin Hat crowd too. Go ahead and hand one!

J. Floyd's in Sevierville had one in stock on Friday, but I'm not sure of the caliber.

I never got the porting thing. The only time I could see it being benefical is when your shooting a mega-cannon handgun. Otherwise it's a waste of money.

If you are looking for a HD pistol, why not take your $500 and find a nice clean used Taurus .357/.38 and then find a nice clean used Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 12 or 20 guage and then take your wife out to dinner with what's left over. That would pretty much cover all your bases. BTW, thanks for taking on the bad guys for us! I hope your home for good!

Nothing silly about that! I love doing it!

The Norinco was pretty basic. I added a full length guide rod, a set of Wolf Springs, a flat main spring housing and a mag well to it and it ran like a Singer Sewing Machine! I used plink rocks with it at 100 yards over at the Y12 Pistol Range when we were doing unit qualifications for the Army Reserve. 500 rounds in a day was nothing to it!

Oh, I've had my share of 1911s too and I'll never be without one in my arsenal. I used to shoot both stock 1911a1s and 1911a1 NMs in the Army. I was on the Shooting Team for the Army Reserve for Tennessee and Alabama back in the Mid 90's. I've also owned an Auto-Ordnance (POS) and a Norinco that a SOB got from me when he found me not at home. It was a sweet pistol too! I took the Insurance money and replaced it with a Springfield 1911 in Stainless. It's used. I bought it off a buddy that just had to have something else. It's a tackdriver. I like it a lot! But I still like my Glocks very much and no, my 17 shows no sign of crumbling anytime soon.

When I bought them for my Colt Agent, I was looking for a set of the rubber ones for it, but I couldn't find any locally. I was down at Fox and Co. on Dutch Valley here in Knoxville and Harold behind the counter (I think that was his name and he's since retired) recommended I try a set of T-Grips. He sold them to me for something like $4 or $5. I thought for the money I might as well try them. One of the best little finds I've ever had. I wouldn't mind getting another set of new Colt grips thought. Mine are a bit worn. That little Agent was a BUG for a US Postal Inspector. He shot it a lot judging from the worn finish on the left side. I bought it off of him for $250 back in the mid to late 90's. It's been a great little piece! Tight as can be for a pistol that's probably going on 40 years old.

I bought my Glock 17 in 1990. It's had probably 4 to 5000 rounds down the tube in that time and other than a scratch or two on the slide it looks just like the day I came home with it. Shoots the same too, very good. I did a smart thing in 1993. I gave it to my wife who loves shooting it, so I wouldn't be tempted to trade it. I was really bad about doing such nonsense back in those days. There are several trades and sales I wish I'd never done. Live and learn.

I have two Glocks, a 17 and a 19, and a Springfield 1911 and I love all of them and would happily use any of them in a SHTF situation. I love the Glocks for all the reasons mentioned above and I love the 1911 because it was what I was trained on in the Army and a pistol I love to shoot.

Rubber! I hate S&W wood grips. They don't fill my hand. I found a Tyler T-Grip for my Colt Agent in chrome. They fill the space in between the trigger guard and the wood grip and have a finger contour. They work real well. I don't know if they are made anymore though. I found a link for them. Check it out. You can keep orginal wood grips on the revolver. They're made for Colt, Ruger and S&W. http://www.t-grips.com/

One thing I don't like about the Walther is the mag release. For some reason they placed it under the trigger guard next to the grip. When I was shooting my friend's P22, my grip was such that I kept pressing it down and releasing the mag when I was shooting. He had the same complaint as well. Other that it was an OK piece.

Kind of looks like some one beat a Walther with an ugly stick. Did y'all notice the knife on the desk? The XD still can't get away from Glock! That's a Glock Knife!
-
I have a couple of those too, but mine are two big for a pants pocket. The Agent is a good size and weight. But I love Glocks! I've always been a Glock fan.

That Taurus looks sweet! Looks old timey too. I like that! If it shoots anything like a Winchester pump I shot once, it'll be a great rifle! I can't remember if the Winchester was a takedown rifle or not. That could be a handy little feature. Is there a way to disable the lock system on a Taurus?
-
It's hard to go wrong with a .357. Very versatile revolver, since you can shoot .38s through it too. Maintence is a snap and a revolver is just flat out dependable. I really like a Ruger SP101 or a SW model 19 (blue) or 66 (sts, same pistol though) with a 2 1/2" barrel. Their getting hard to find now though. Taurus also makes several, but I've never fired any of them. There's one over in the FOR SALE section right now that seems to be a pretty good buy.

I carry a Colt .38 spl Agent when I feel the need to carry. If I feel the need to carry something larger, then common sense tells me I probably don't need to be where ever it is I'm going. Federal Nyclads are dead on in this revolver so that's what's in it along with two HKS speed loaders. If I'm wearing a jacket then it's in the right front pocket and if I'm not then it's tucked in a Uncle Mike's IWB holster. If I'm in kakhis, I just stick it in the front pocket. The main reason I carry this one is because it's first of all LIGHT. Second it's very ACCURATE. Third it's DEPENDABLE. Things that I like in a pistol.
