  1. He's a great man and a great coach. I think the program has slipped over the last several years though. I truely hated to see him go, but I think it was time. I hate to admit that my eyes were a little watery at the end of the game. I thought ESPN did a good job with Fulmer's leaving till the end when Erin Andrews tried to start interviewing him on the field. It was time to leave him alone with his players and his wife, so he could enjoy his last victory as a Volunteer.
  2. I so sorry to hear this. Peace be with you and your wife!

    Another SKS

I'd pick up a copy of Shotgun News next time I was at Kroger. Tons of 7.62X39 in there for sale. Better get while you still can.
  4. I still carry 125 gr HP standard pressure Nyclads in my colt Agent. I understand they are getting hard to find in standard pressure. There was also a rumor at the SHOT Show that Federal is bringing them back into production for us lesser peons. Here is a link to the Buffalo Bore rounds. You all might want to read it. Had some pretty interesting claims. Might be good stuff! http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#standard38

A guy at work bought a Yugo a couple of weeks back and has recently purchased three of the hi-cap mags. I cautioned against spending to much money on them. I mentioned the fact that the original 10 round fixed worked wonderful. He pissed his money a way. They don't work well at all. I'm like you just another old fart. Why fix something that ain't broke in the first place.

Didn't SOG import some Norinco's that used AK Mags? I think it was the Paratrooper Model. They also had short 16" barrels. You see them around from time to time. I understood them to be of pretty good quality.
  7. Back in 1995, the company I worked for tabbed me and two others to take a First Responder Course. First Responder is what the average Fireman in Knoxville is trained to. It was a 9 week course that was taught by Rural Metro's EMT/Paramedic Manager. Absolutely the best medical training I ever had as a civilian! Loved it! I'd like to take it again. I've also had the Adult CPR, Child CPR and General First Aid courses from the Red Cross several times over the years as well. I'd encourage those who are serieous about learning first aid to look into a good First Responder Course.
  8. Well it's up to 60% for and 40% against with over 12,200 votes. Looks like a lot of people think like us!
  9. Blundered into Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville last week and ran across some first aid kits they had for sale. I liked the looks of them so picked up two for $15 a piece (1 for each vehicle). I've since found them online for less, so I thought I'd share. http://www.militaryclothing.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/hierarchy/050K/product-id/36911291.html The ones at Smoky Mountain Knife Works are OD Green with a red and white cross on them. I've seen them online for as little as $4.99 + shipping. I imagine that shipping puts them up there at the price I purchased them at.
  10. I carry either a Kershaw Onion serrated or a Gerber Paraframe I serrated. Love them both. The Onion is a lot lighter then the Gerber. My shealth knife is an old custom Taylor I picked up back in the 80s carried during Desert Stoem and still have it. I also carry a Leatherman or a Gerber Multi-tool and a couple of swiss army knives on occasion. Carried an officer model during Desert Storm as well. If I had the change to throw around, I'd buy one of these. http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=155

    Taurus Judge

Personally, I think I'd be better armed with a Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 spl. and carry a little Snake Charmer in my truck. It'd probably be cheaper too. I just don't see a .410 being a good personal defense round. It's also been my experience that .410 slugs are not the easiest thing in the world to find. Just my two cents. That and a buck fifty might buy some coffee somewhere.
  12. Well it's 9:30 and FOXNEWS just called Ohio and Pennsylvania for McCain. I don't see how he can win now. We are on the way to becoming a OBAMANATION. The big thing is now to keep a super majority of Democrats out of the Senate. It's going to be close... Keep your fingers crossed. I'm hopeful since three of the toss up states went Republican!
  13. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Your kids will appreciate such things one of these days. Just wish I could afford to collect a few like G is showing us today! Thanks for sharing, G. I look forward to more!

    Hunting rifle?

A 30/30 makes an excellent first deer rifle, especially if you hunt in brush or woodlands. They're size is terrific for fast shooting. I love carbine length rifles. 30-06 has been used to take every game animal in North America, though I'd personally be a LOT leery about taking on a grizzly, brown, kodiak or polar bear with one. It's a flat shooting round out to about 300 yards or so. I like a .308 as well, but it's not quite as popular as the 30-06 or the 30/30. Handles will in a carbine package. It is a bit expensive. 30-06s are a whole lot easier to find for sale. If it were me, I'd get that 30/30 from your mom and see if you catch the deer hunting bug. If you do, you can move up to a bolt gun (Savages are the best bang for the buck) and a larger calibar. If you don't, you aren't out a bunch of money that could be better spent else where. Just my two cents.

    Kel-Tec PLR16 ??

I was looking at one of these as a trunk monkey! Seems to really fit the bill!
  16. We've had ATT for four years. I dropped them yesterday. My service has been spotty for the last couple of years and when it came time to open a new contract with them, they were not welling to deal for an old customer. I wanted four new phones which I was welling to pay for, but I wanted them to eat the activation charge for each phone. They refused, but kept pointing out that I got roll over minutes. We carried 700 minute share plan per month over the last four years and we had yet to ever go over those minutes. Roll over minutes weren't a big deal to me. The $20+ activation fee per phone was. So as of yesterday we are a new Sprint Customer with four new phones. The cost was the same per month for 1500 minutes instead of 700 minutes, with nights, weekends and texting. We got three LG Rumors and a Samsung M300 for $54 and the activation was free. We are happy. I hope AT&T is. So long!
  17. Hard to hid a 9mm in a pocket. Kel-Tec makes on that is probably small enough. Your original suggestion is spot on. .38 snub is the way to go. I'd continue to push it till he makes a decision one way or another.
  18. I'm not much into the Hi-Point pistols, but I have been hankering for one of their little carbines in 9mm. As for holstering a High Point comfortably, I too would recommend wearing an undershirt between the pistol and skin. I don't even like carrying my Colt Agent .38 like that tucked behind my belt. Another think you might give a try is one of those belly holsters rigs. Here's a link to one. http://www.holsterss.com/servlet/the-17/belly-holster-waistband-wrb/Detail I think there are several differnt models out there. BTW, I too have your problem. 6'3" 310lbs. And I too need to push myself away from the table and maybe get a little exercise... if I could find the time.
  19. That sounds like a real sweet deal! They are awesome rifles! I used to shoot one in competition when I was in the army Reserve. One of the best shooting rifles I've ever handled. Of course those were M14NM's instead of M1A's but they were basically the same, just a name change.
  20. If you can pick up a M1A for $1000 go for it!!! You won't be disappointed! But I suspect those are few and far between. I'd go with the Garand for all the reasons listed above. They are awesome rifles in their on right. The rest are just wannabes. They're fun to shoot and all, but really don't have the accuracy and range to hang with a Garand or a M1A. Another option you should consider for your list is a Springfield '03. Can't beat them either!
  21. I've owned a Glock 17 since 1991 and I ain't blown a cheek off yet. I now own a Glock 19 too and I love the size and feel of it. They are one of the best buys on the market IMO. I've bought, sold and traded a large varity of pistols, but the the Glock is the one I've always kept. Congrats on a great purchase!!!
  22. Carbines have gone through the roof! Wished I'd have bought one back in the 80's when they were running $100 a piece. $495 is a great price. There was one up on GOLSN that the guy wanted $750 for. Those are nice looking M44s. Congrats on getting them! You guys seem to have all the fun toys!
  23. I got a place for one of them at my house!
  24. I hated the dress greens that we had to wear. That was the uglist uniform ever devised by the Army. I like the dress blues, but not with the beret and I don't like them bloused either. On the other hand I like the berets. I thought the reguler Army should have adopted the Tan and left the black to the Rangers though. That was a crappy thing to do to them.
  25. I think a good friend of mine has one that was also a war trophy brought home by his grandfather. They are pretty neat looking little pistols.
