  1. I've been working on this deal for since the end of October with my boss and we finally got it done today! Without further adu, let me introduce to you, my version of Mabelle! Mabelle is a Polytech M14S. Nothing fancy!
  2. Not to mention once you change out the bolt, you'll need to have the head space checked by a gun smith. Just have him change the firing pin out.
  3. Check with SARCO or Numrich Gun Parts. Odds are 9 in 10 that they have a firing pin for that Enfield. Here is SARCO's website. http://www.sarcoinc.com/ and here is Numrich Gun Parts. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/. I expect it would be kind of fun putting that old rifle to right! Nice looking old rifles BTW!
  4. It sounds cool! It's no big deal and can wait till you get back in from sea. I may hold on to my pennys and see just exactly what you do pull out of your closet!
  5. I think the .22 makes a lot of sense. Right now, I'd probably go with my Highpoint 9mm Carbine and a Ruger Blackhawk Conversion in .357/9mm. The reason for the carbine is because it's a fairly small package (fits in a duffle bag), is in a convient caliber (you can find 9mm anywhere you can purchase ammo just about) and it runs flawlessly. I'd pick the Blackhawk for few moving parts to break, they never jam, same caliber as the Highpoint, and dual caliber means I can use three different calibers .38spl, .357 mag and 9mm. My second sidearm would be a Ruger II or III target pistol with a 6" barrel. That's for rabbits and such. I'd go with .22 rifle, but I want something bigger for defensive situations and I can't see me carrying two rifles if I were on foot. A shotgun might be a good choice, but the ammo weights too much. I thought of a bigger rifle, but I like being able to use ammo in both my long gun and my main pistol. Of course a lever action in .357 or another type of 9mm rifle would work just as well.
  6. No problem. We should all get together for a shoot. I have a bubbadized Isaphore that I could bring out along with some .308. You don't happen to have some pics of that old Mauser do you?
  7. I think this guy is on crack. While I do think there is some sort of possiblity of a Civil War, I think it's very slim. I think a depression is a much, much more likely senerio. I also don't see this country falling under the influence of any other country. I think at the worst we'd become isolationist.
  8. Ok, this is a firearms forum, so what's your all's thinking about a bug out/survival weapon or weapons?
  9. Hey Mark@Sea What about the Enfield and the Mauser? Got an idea what you might want for them? What kind of shape are they in?
  10. Watch at www.golsn.com. One usually shows up there from time to time. Seems like the prices are usually in the $400 range. There is a gun show this weekend in Knoxville at the fair grounds. It might be worthe your while as well.
  11. Other than the cool factor, I just don't get it. Seems a sawed off double barrel would be more handy and a whole lot simpler to load.

    J Floyds?

I worked in Sevierville until three months ago and went in there a lot. They are a helpful bunch there. I hope that it's not true. But with Bass Pro there and the possiblity of other places like that going in, I'd say they are probably between a rock and a hard place. It's a shame because they carry stuff you don't see at Bass Pro and Gander Mountain.
  13. Thanks guys! You've got me hooked now. I'm going to study and then go for my license.
  14. Man, it's bad! I changed jobs back in September, because I saw the writing on the wall where I worked. We went through a lay off in May and the ones that survived got their hours cut back to 32 a week. Then they had another round at the end of July. I survived that one too. I told my boss that I was going to have to start hunting soon. He thought that would be for the best. He ended up helping me get the job I have now. He started at my new firm on Monday! This is the third shop we've worked together at. And our old firm just laid off again right before thanksgiving. Good luck on the job hunt!
  15. I saw these these tonight. I just rolled my eyes and went on. This guy's an idiot! But it's every where now. Anything that even remotely looks likes military has gone sky high! I can't believe people are still buying at this point.
  16. Leupold is indeed pricy. I've never heard anything but good about them though. However I have a hard time paying more for my scope than my rifle.
  17. I've considered getting my HAM license, but I'm not sure I really have the time to study for it. Is there somewhere on line that you can study for it? I picked up the ETON FR500 for my christmas present. The wife won't let me have it till christmas and I have to act surprised too.
  18. I have a Springfield and I love it. I bought it used from a friend of mine that fell in love with another Springfield. It's had approx. 1500 rounds through it and never jammed or even offered too. It this one here but without the adjustable sights. They are the fixed Novak sights used on the Operator. http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=8
  19. I've been thinking about asking for an Emergency Radio for Christmas and I've been looking at the Etons at Radio Shack. Anyone got an opinion on these or know of a better radio? http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032073 I'm primirily for something that picks up the local AM/FM/SW NOAA braodcasts, but I also want it to be handcranked in case the power goes out. The Etons also have a built in flashlight and a cellphone charger.
  20. There is one on today's GOLSN.com. Seems like it's out of McMinnville. The seller has several firearms for sale. If I remember correctly, he wants $125 for it. Here is the link. http://www.golsn.com/listings/outdoor_adventure/firearms/rifles-shotguns/636336.html Excellent price on a SKS as well!
  21. Just a little bit, say two inches. There is a plastic piece around it, so that it looks like a grip extention. Actually, I'm not sure I paid that much more. Their on very cheap on line either.
  22. +1 on the J-frames and other small snubbies!!!
  23. Not sure why you read anything past the S&W 642. That's kinda hard to beat.
  24. Just because your not spending a mint on a 1911 or the next Uber40 doesn't mean you can't be well armed. I saw nothing wrong with any of the pistols you've purchased. The only thing I would have done a little different than you is look for a good, clean, used snubbie. You really can't beat them and there are several good cheaper ones out there, such as Charter Arms (get a new model), Rossi, or Taurus. Among those three, you'll find just about every caliber covered, from .32 to .44 spl. As a matter of fact the next handgun I purchase may well be a little 5 shot .44 spl. Personally, when I feel the need to go armed, I carry a .38 snub most of the time. I think they are the best value out there.
  25. Well, I guess I'm drinking the cool-aid now. I just picked up one at the show for $225 with a NCStar 4 power scope on it. Thought it was a fair price. Picked up a couple of spare 15 round magazines too. Paid to much for them, but who knows if we are going to be able to pick them up in the future. I'll let you all know how it shoots in a weekend or two.
