  1. Pancake Pantry is a MUST!!! +1+1+1!!! And don't be fooled by the long line at the door. It moves really fast! If you like Japanese, I recommend Little Tokyo in Pigeon Forge. If you like home cooking, I like Clint's outside of Sevierville, going towards Newport. Can't say enough about J Floyd's! They are nice folks in there. Other than that, hit the mountains every chance you get. Head to Cades Cove. If your into hiking, I've always like the Rainbow Falls trail. Have fun and don't pass up the Pancake Pantry!!!

    P89 New ruger owner

The P89 is an excellent pistol, but they are kind of klunky. They are however very dependable. I have a friend of mine that has had a Sig 9mm for 20 years and swears that the old Ruger P89 he keeps under the seat in his truck will out shoot the Sig. He has also never had it fail to fire no matter where the 9mm ammo came from. He can't say the same for the Sig.
  3. Holy CRAP! Sure didn't see that coming!
  4. Personally, I've bought my last Nissan. We have a 2005 Nissan Quest we bought brand new. It now has 63,000 miles and this is our third set of brakes at $450 a pop on the thing. I have other issues with the van as well and will not buy another one. It just seems cheap. My Parents have a 2007 Chrysler LXI minivan that is twice the van and have had no problems out of it. I'm not a big Chrylser fan, but I've driven it when the Nissan was in the shop and it's far nicer. I think my next van is going to be a Honda.
  5. Beat up, that's still a good deal! There are all kinds of things you could do to it to bring it back to youth! Have fun with it!!!
  6. I read that with much interest yesterday on Foxnews.com. Wonder what they think of us here at Tngunowners.com? We might have a whole drive on one of their computers!

    No .45's

The reason the 9mm was accepted by the U.S. Military was because it was the standard round in NATO except for us. We used the .45acp. So in the spirit of standardizing ammunition throughtout NATO, we adopted the 9MM and dropped the best pistol round ever carried by an American Soldier. At the same time the 5.56x45 became the standard NATO rifle round. The 7.62x51mm was still used by most NATO countries at the time. I wonder though, during Desert Storm, many of the reserve and National Guard Units still carried 1911a1. Were they still in service during our lastest conflicits? Not a Special Ops guns, but in regular units?
  8. Well said Seminole!!! Please continue to feed us his replies!
  9. Lately, I've had a yearning to build an underground house. I'd also like to get totally off the grid as well. I'd think that if you had property with a south facing hillside that would be the ticket. Why south facing, because you can use the sun to provide some heat for your house during the daylight hours. An underground house also provides excellent insullation. One draw back though is that they tend to be a bit damp, but there are things you can do to take care of that. An underground house would also provide fairly good cover if you had to defend yourself. If it were me, I'd keep the dirt that I excavated for the house and build up permanent walls of some sort to the front. Off the grid electrical sources would probably have to be a combination of different types, as mentioned before. One I've not seen though is wind. If you could setup a couple of windmills, along with some solar panels, that might be the ticket. Another possiblity is if your property has a creek, then you could setup a water wheel to turn a generator. That would probably supply all the power you might need. Of course a well is a must for water. Not sure I'd trust a creek for my water needs. Another possiblity is rain barrels especially for watering animals and such.
  10. I was in CCA last week and they had some Mini-14's with what looked like a 16" barrel. They had a black synthetic stock and I think they were marked NRA. I'm not sure of the price though.
  11. Many women wear jackets with pockets in them, even in the summer time. A 442 or a 642 would be dandy in a jacket pocket as well. Lack of a exposed hammer or moving slide is a plus, IMO.
  12. I like a small carbine. The SUB2000 might be the ticket, but I like my Hi-point 995 in 9mm just as well and it's about half the price. The problem with Hi-points is the limited magazine capacity.
  13. I read The Road after he won the Pulitzer for it and loved it! It's a great book. I've tried to read other books by Cormac, Sutree and All the Pretty Horses. However with Sutree, I just got disgusted with the character and All the Pretty Horse bored me to no end after a 100 pages or so. Both were returned to the library unfinished. I intend to pick up Blood Meridan and read it next though.
  14. Actually spending on roads and other infrastructure is a good thing!Construction is down right now. This will create jobs not just in construction but also in manufacturing, engineering and design. If contractors and construction workers are employed, then they will need materials like asphalt, concrete and steel. That in turn keeps concrete and asphalt plants open along with steel mills. Of course they will also need construction equipment, clothes, boots and a lot of other things which means those companies will helped as well. Construction keeps a lot different jobs going and creates new ones. Not to mention that we all get something out of this, whether it's better roads, sewers, waterlines, schools or even the internet. I wish they'd have spent more money on infrastructure than they did.
  15. I think the best compasses are military issue. I've never had a problem with the old lensatic compass. it always got me where I needed to go. The one problem with them is they are a tad bit expensive.
  16. I had one like you describe. Great gun, but a bit to big for CC, in my opinion. I think of the N-frames as more of a open carry sidearm.
  17. I know that Norris has an outdoor range. I really wasn't wanting to drive up there, but I may next time. John Sevier is just handy since it's about 5 minutes from the house. Last time I shot at Norris, it was $25 per year and you got a key to the gate. I'd say it's a bit more now. But I may need to look into it.
  18. Just let me know when the next one is. I might be able to fit in between AAU Basketball and Soccer. The spring time is busy for my family. But I'd love to come up there! This was the first time I got to shoot a BUNCH of firearms in about 10 years. I used to go the range in Sevierville when I worked up there, but that was just pistol.
  19. I took two of my kids out to the John Sevier Hunter Education Center today north of Knoxville. Fine casual shooting range BTW. The staff and Range Officers were very good and helpful! We had a great time! One thing did get my interest though. My kids are 14 and 9. I had to provide Id which I gladly did. No problem there. But I also had to give the TWRA Official my kid's Social Security Numbers which were entered into a computer. He said it was a Homeland Security Requirement. Is that true of all ranges? How many of you all have all your children's SSNs on you at anyone time? I had to call my wife who had them. I just thought it was a bit funny. I'm not a big fan of Homeland Security any way. It sounds and acts too much like something Hitler came up with in the 1930's.
  20. MP40... What MP40? I never saw no MP40! Put it right back in the ground where it came from. I think if you tried to turn it in there would be a whole lot of questions asked and suspicions raised. Oh, and you might want to read up on caching over in the Survival Subform, prior to returning from wince it came. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16764 Just a though.
  21. Got my kids out today and we went to the range. Took a Marlin .22 Bolt, Polytech M14 and the Highpoint and a couple of pistols. We had a ball! The Highpoint shot pretty well. I had a two inch group at 50 yards. I need to set down and really play with the 4X NCSTAR scope that's mounted on it. It was about 6 inches out to the right. The two hi-cap mags I bought for it were a little disappointing. One seemed to be good, the other had several miss feeds. The 10 shoot mag that came with it worked flawlessly. I'd read about the trigger pull being pretty stiff, but this one is not bad at all.
  22. $179 is a good deal on one! You should have taken it. You'd have got that much out of it, if you didn't like it.

    Best 9mm List

Well I was distracted by the Tennessee/LSU ballgame. You all must not be watching it. And the Glock should probably be placed in the top three.

    Best 9mm List

Well, I have always heard that most experts do consider the CZ75 to be the best 9mm ever. I somehow don't see the High Point on that list though. I too have to question the lack of a Glock making that list. I know MSRP is higher on them but you rarely see them above $500.
  25. If you all run across a Blue Norinco 1911 with a flat main spring housing, wood grips and a full length guide rod for sale in the Knoxville area, I'd appreciate it if you send me a message here. I had one stolen in when my house was broke into about 4 years ago. It was a great psitol. I'd love to have it back. I still have the box, so I have the SN too.
