Boy, I bet that Detective would REALLY be impressed by some of the carbines over at the Hi-Point Forum! He probably compare them to a Nuclear Bomb!!!

This is your lucky day, my friend! There is a guy in Lafollette, TN that has one for sale on Gunbroker. I happened to see it last night. It's a Uberti in .357 Mag. Here is the link. Uberti Revolving Carbine 357 mag : Other at GunBroker.com

Shotgun News had an article on them a couple of months back. Seemed to be very impressed with them. MSRP was up there though. Seems like it was around $1000. I think it may still be in the "Library" at work. I'll try to check it out again tomorrow.

Why can't I be this lucky and run into something like this! REALLY NICE JOB!!! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with refinishing an old warhorse like this. It's not like he knocked off $1000s of dollars in value from it or anything. I dear say it means more to him now than it did when he bought it and that's what it's all about.

Got the ear muffs! My son would definitely come. Oldest daughter might come too. No way on the youngest. She hates even fireworks. Weekends are full between all the sports they play. I've only been able to get to the range twice since March. I got several things to shoot, nothing to exotic though.

For kicks and function both. It's something you don't see a lot of, but at the same time it should be a fast handling rifle for whatever you may need it for. Iron sites are a biggy for me too. I don't like rifles that are glass only. I'm going to have to come to one of your all's shoots. Finding time between a wife and three active kids is a problem though!

Nothing against the SKS (they are great little rifles), but I like the 7.62x51 NATO round better for the power. I already have an old Isaphore 2A that has been bubbized that I bought for less than a $100. I have plenty of 7.62x51 rounds for it too. I think Suntzu is looking at the samething with the Mosin. Plus it looks like a fun project if I have the guts to go through with it.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! SCOUT GUN PORN!!! If I only had this much tallent and patience!!! Here is an outstanding article on a Enfield Scout conversion. I would think the MN would work much the same way. Enjoy!!! Scout Rifle Project - Articles

Check this out about 2/3 of the way down the page! It's an Isaphore converted over to a Scout! BEAUTIFUL!!! Tactical "Scout" Rifle... - TheHighRoad.US

Amen brother! I'm going that route myself.

I tried to go to ATI's site and see what the cost of that rail was, but i was unable to locate it. I need to get the Isaphore out and look at it and see how much room I really have.

I've always wanted a Scout Rifle chambered in .308. Almost had one once. I was in Charlie's Pawn over on Kingston Pike several years ago and there was a Ruger M77 .308 Scout! I traded a S&W 4505 for it. I was proud as punch til I got a letter left on my door a few weeks later from the Knox County Sherriff's Department, saying I needed to be concerned about the where abouts of a certain Ruger Rifle. Seems it had been part of a gun collection that was stolen down in Georgia. I had to give it up to a detective over at KCSD. Charlie's had unfortuately already sold my old pistol, so we agreed on a price and they gave me the money and apologized for the whole mess. I've heard the Mossy's are decent guns! I've been thinking some more about the ironsite problem. I think you could mount a long picattany rail forward of the chamber and mount your scope. Then also have one of those flat top AR rear sites on hand. That would do the trick, I think. Something like this! http://www.ar15pro.com/item/168311_MIDWEST_INDUSTRIES_Sights__Lasers_MIDWEST_LOW_PROFILE_FLIP_.aspx

Oh great! You all sucked me in on this thread! I've been looking for an FR-8 online for sale for the last hour or so. I did find this guy's picture of a FR-8 Scout Rifle. It's at the very bottom of the thread. See what you think about it! Official "UGLY STICK" Thread - Sniper's Hide Forums BTW this rifle weights in at 7.5 lbs. Pretty light for a Milsurp! Now I'm also thinking about taking a Isaphore 2a that I have and making Scout out of it. Here is a picture of one a fella did. Looks really good! It's the second post down from the top. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=5131048 The problem I have with this one is replacing the existing site base with the scope. Again if something happens to the scope then you have no sites.

I would think a Spanish Mauser a FR-7 or a FR-8 would make a dandy little Scout Rifle. They are fairly lite and compact. However they aren't that cheap anymore. Here is one I found on gunbroker.com. Check it out, if your not familiar with them. There is also one FR-7 there. You can search for it. The difference between the two is the FR-7 was built on the Mauser 93 action and the FR-8 was built on the M43 (Mauser 98) action and is much stronger. It's not recommended that you shoot .308 winchester through a FR-7, only 7.62x51 NATO because of the higher pressures in .308. 308 is just fine through the FR-8.

I've always like the Scout concept, but for one thing. What do you do with a Scout Rifle if ever the scope gets busted up? Of course, that's the same question I use for ever non ironsited firearm too, not just the Scout Rifle. I also watched the video, and I think I'd rather have the original straight bolt on a Mosin Nagant instead of the bent bolt. I'd think it would handle a bit faster, which in my mind is the reason behind the whole Scout Rifle Concept.

It is beautiful! I had the pleasure of shooting one that belongs to a cousin of mine up in Virginia! It wasn't an artillery though. Just had the standard barrel on it. Shot wonderful and felt wonderful in the hand! I'd love to have one sometime before I die!

My son's Den Leader in Webolos, had a neat whistle at our last over weekend campout. This thing sounded like one of those air horns that use the can of compressed air, yet you blow it just like a whistle. It could be heard from quite a distance. I'll try to find out who the maker is.

Mine has to be my HP 995 carbine for $225 plus an ATI Stock too. When I bought the rifle I also got a decent scope with it. That's the reason I paid what I paid. I also bought a Isaphore .308 enfield that has been sportarized. Got it for $85 several years ago.

One and only time I ever ran into a rattler was up at Frozenhead State Park. A buddy and I were up there backpacking and came a cross one within a hundred yards of our next camping site. He was curled up on the trail and gave us about 10 yards of warning. He looked to be about 4 or 5 feet long. We stopped and waited for him to move on off the trail. I guess it took about 10 or so minutes. Seemed like and hour. But we decided we weren't going around him cause the trail was in the middle of a Trillium Patch and we couldn't see the ground under all the Trillium. I wouldn't have killed him. The way I looked at it was I was on HIS land not mine. Needless to say we did not camp at that spot. But went further up the trail.

TGO David, I suspect you are fixing to get a lot of business! Wish you were closer to Knoxville! I got a couple of items I need to have coated. One of which just happens to also be a 870!

My God! Everyone is building ARs these days!

Please go to www.parade.com and vote in their poll, on softing gun restrictions. I just voted and right now it's 93% for easing gun restrictions and 7% not for easing gun restrictions. The poll is located about half way down on the left side.

Picked up a S&W HRT folder at the gun show in knoxville a week or so back and I'm really beginning to like it. The only thing I hate about it is the blade is stainless steel instead of Carbon Steel. I typically don't think Stainless steel is the mark of a quality blade. Of course I paid a whopping $13 for it.
